3 Greetings to all at MayFaire from the equestrians! Everyone is welcome to watch any of the equestrian activities during MayFaire - the equestrian area is in the southwest corner of the site, with a large fenced arena where the war horses will be displaying their skills and their partnership with their riders. Several redtopped small pavilions will be available for spectators on the north side of the arena - please feel most welcome to come, sit awhile, and ask questions. Due to SCA insurance regulations for the equestrian portion of the event, anyone camping in the designated equestrian area (the southwest corner of the site, south and west of the arena - you'll see the SCA required liability signs posted) must sign the AnTir equestrian waivers for the State of Washington. Also, all riders and ground crew must sign whether you already have an AnTir authorization card or are working toward one at this event. It is not necessary for visitors to sign a waiver, but we ask that they be accompanied by an equestrian when visiting the war horses, preferably the owner of the horse or an equestrian marshal. PLEASE do not feed anything (including your fingers) to the war horses without the owner's permission. Please do not send unaccompanied minors to the equestrian area to visit - SCA regulations require us to turn them away unless their parent/guardian is present (even if they are just visiting). We do not want to disappoint any young AnTirians. MayFaire is the first equestrian event this year, and the first event for some young war horses. You'll see how we gradually introduce horses to weapons, to the military elements of SCA equestrian competition, and to the excitement of the challenge course. In the spirit of MayFaire you'll also see some frivolity - dancing with the war horses - and hopefully mounted town cries and a processional in support of the role of horses in pageantry in medieval times. The encampment is next to the Barony of Glymm Mere s encampment, and is easily spotted by it s bright yellow and black day shade. Look for anyone wearing this device and they will be able to point you in the right direction: Our members also wear favors with only a single cross.
6 Site and Event Rules All mundane laws apply. Participants shall not violate any state, local or federal laws. Site is discretely wet. Pets are allowed on site but all pets must be leashed/tethered at all times. Waste cleanup is required. Owners are responsible for any damage caused by pets, and any animals that appear to pose a danger (as determined by the Autocrat or Constabulary) will be removed from the site by their Owners. Smoking is in private encampments only. No smoking in any public areas. ALL garbage must be removed. A dumpster is provided near Gate. Please check your site carefully to make sure you are not leaving any trash behind. If you brought it in, you must TAKE IT OUT. There are equestrian events taking place at May Faire. Please exercise caution around the horses. Take care not to spook any horses. DO NOT approach a horse without it s Owner s permission! Campfires are allowed in above ground braziers, which must be a minimum of 18 above the ground. You must have water or fire extinguishers immediately available when any fire is lit. Do not leave fires unattended. No swimming in the river. Please stay clear of the Erics, Warfield and Archery ranges. Obey all commands from Marshalls and Constables regarding safe viewing distances. Parents, please supervise your children. All minors are the responsibility of their parents or the adult listed on the forms presented at Gate. There is no quiet times, other than in the designated Quiet Camping areas. Inside these designated areas, Quiet Time is from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Please drive slowly! Vehicles are permitted on the site for unloading only, then must be moved to the parking lot as soon as unloaded. The only exceptions are for gentles with Handicap permits in designated camping, and necessary staff and emergency vehicles. The Autocrat will determine on a case-by-case basis whether a vehicle will be permitted to remain in the event area. Vehicles which are permitted in the event area should be covered. Only Merchant vehicles are allowed on the Merchant s road. Persons with a valid handicap permit who need to have their vehicles near their encampment please camp in the Special Needs camping area. This area is also available for anyone who feels they need to camp close to the Chirurgeon. Vehicles in this area do not have to be covered, although it would be preferred.
