1 Bootlegger Boogie Endurance Ride AERC Sanctioned/TERA Sponsored 50/30/10mi Intro March 1-2 (Sat & Sun), 2014 Greg and I are delighted to host the first Bootlegger Boogie endurance ride. Come and enjoy the historic Tarrant Ranch with us and ride like you smuggled it!! Our Bootlegger theme stems from the ranch s history of moonshining during 1930 s prohibition. Over 200 gallons/day of corn liquor were produced by the wood fired still. Mr. Tarrant s Father and Uncle were eventually caught by regulators and sent to Federal prison. Established in 1850, the ranch s almost 5,000ac has been in the Tarrant family for 7 generations. They began breeding Brahman cattle in 1946 and through select breeding they registered the very first Black Brahman cattle. 2 Address: Tarrant Ranch Trail Riding CR 3704 Bullard, TX Directions: From Tyler, TX- Hwy 69S. approx mi con t thru Bullard and look for the Keipersol Bushman s Camp, just past the camp TURN RIGHT on CR 3701, about 3/4 mi TURN RIGHT onto CR 3704 (look for Tarrant Cemetery sign), horse camp is 1/4mi on the left. From Jacksonville, TX- Hwy 69N. Approx mi to CR 3701, TURN LEFT. If you pass Bushman s Camp you have gone too far. Then follow 3701 for 3/4mi and TURN RIGHT onto CR 3704 (look for Tarrant Cemetery sign), horse camp is 1/4mi on the left. Base Camp: The parking area is open grassy coastal fields surrounded by trees, and ponds, no running water for people but water will be provided in tanks and troughs for horses. Scatter manure/straw, trash cans and port a potties are available. Please fill any holes your horses or vehicles create. Keep all dogs on a leash or restricted in your camping area. Smoking only allowed in your camping area, please don t smoke on the trails. Camp fires as allowed according to the county burn ordinance and will be kept in your own camping area and under control. The camp is always open, come as early or stay over as long as you like. The official ride event date/times are Feb 28 th 9am - March 2 nd 9pm, any camping or riding before or after the event and the associated camping/riding fees are between you and the land owner. Please drop those fees in the collection box at the ranch entrance before you leave. This is a public riding ranch, it is not reserved for the exclusive use of our riders. I am confident that the utmost caution will be used and consideration given to trail riders sharing the trails with us. Please pass them slowly and safely and leave a positive impression.

3 This is a working cattle ranch, cattle may have access to the camping area. Please keep all forage and feed stored or placed in the center of your pens and the electric fence on as a precaution. We have asked that the cows be penned, be prepared in the event they are not. Trails: Rolling hard wood hills with grassy fields, iron ore ranch roads, some scattered rock in the woods. Hoof protection at your discretion. Water is plentiful at Tarrant with 30 ponds and miles of spring fed creeks. If your horse is not accustomed to being in water and crossing water, they will be by the end of this ride. Photography: by John Nowell and available for purchase a few days after the ride at Junior riders: Those riders <16yrs of age must be accompanied by a sponsor at least 21yrs of age during the event and wear a helmet at all times while mounted or will be subject to disqualification. Intro riders: The intro ride is just that, an introduction to endurance riding, there is no time requirement to finish and you do not have to be an AERC member, it s just for fun. There is no placement and each rider will receive a ride completion t-shirt. Tentative Schedule: (subject to change) Friday: Check in opens at 12 Noon and vet check at 3pm or as soon as the vet is prepared to begin. Pre-ride meeting begins at 7pm. Saturday and Sunday: 50 mile will start at 7:00 30 mile at 7:30 Intro at 8:00 Saturday- Post ride meeting to begin at 7pm Sat meal available for purchase by donation Sunday- meetings will occur as soon as each ride is resulted

6 Bootlegger Boogie Release (This form must be read, signed, and on file in order to participate) LEGAL LIABILITY AND MEDICAL RELEASE I, as a participant in the Bootlegger Boogie Endurance Ride, agree to abide by the rules of AERC, TERA, and Bootlegger Boogie ride. I understand that Endurance riding involves being in remote areas for extended periods of time, far from communications, transportation, and medical facilities. I understand that these areas have many natural and man-made hazards that ride management cannot anticipate, identify, modify or eliminate. I understand that horses can be excitable, difficult to control, unpredictable, and that accidents can happen to anyone at any time. I further agree to be fully responsible for my animals and myself. I will hold harmless the landowners of Tarrant Ranch/Tarrant Ranch Trail Riding, American Endurance Ride Conference, Texas Endurance Riders Association, Ride Management, Ride Staff, and Ride Volunteers for any accident or injury to myself or my equine, and any property loss/damage that might occur due to my participation in the ride. I grant permission for ride management to arrange emergency medical treatment for me and also give consent for, and will be financially responsible for, any emergency medical treatment provided to me if I am unable to give informed consent. 7 The Mortl Challenge Entry Form We Challenge you as a rider to take part in the 3rd annual Mortl Challenge. The Challenge: Option 1: Complete both days at Bootlegger Boogie I & II, March 1-2, 2014 on the same horse, either distance (you may move up a distance on day 2 but you may not move down-for example you may not do a 50 on Saturday then a 30 on Sunday but you can do a 30 on Saturday and a 50 on Sunday). Option 2: You may do your first 50 ever as a rider! We would like to encourage those of you who have not tried endurance to take the plunge. If you complete your first 50 then you will have completed the challenge! The Ride: Bootlegger Boogie I & II Cost: $40.00 (Sign up before the start of the ride) Prizes: No decision on prizes yet but they are always a very nice monogrammed item! April Mortl was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and endurance rider. She is greatly missed by all who knew her. This challenge is held in her memory and will benefit Horsefeathers Therapeutic Center in Edgewood, Texas. In 2012 the Challenge donated $ !! In 2013 the Challenge broke even!
