Gunnora made her own glass beads for her Norse necklace. Both Lizzie & Grimm enjoyed archery throughout the event. We're glad to have you, thank you for your participation in the SCA! Thank you to the Canton of Sudentorre for once again putting on a fantastic Defending the Gate. We had a wonderful time as did all of our guests. Thankfully the weather cooperated, and while cold temperatures prevailed the clouds kept to themselves.

2 2 of 7 4/27/2011 6:29 AM We are sad to see Siegfried McClure, seneschal of Sudentorre, stepping down from his post as of this missive. It is fortunate that a wonderful replacement, Bertran de St. Jean, will be taking his place. We look forward to working with you closely in the future. For the fighters it is that time of year again. Time to knock the rust off of your armor, find all the extra parts and get out fighting. If you need help knocking the rust off, there is no shortage of opportunities to fight, there are two regular practices within the Barony, one in Sudentorre in Fredericksburg on Monday and one in the center of the Barony in Manassas on Tuesday. There are fighters of all types (armored, rapier and cut & thrust) at both practices, so come out and enjoy some recreational violence. There are many opportunities coming up to show your prowess. From Golden Rose, Crown Tournament, Sapphire Joust and Pennsic. The Barony will be fielding units at both Sapphire Joust and Pennsic. We will specifically be fielding a team at St Aiden s and of course we will be taking the field in force at Pennsic 40. Birthday will be held on July 9th this year at the Prince William County Fairgrounds. Come and celebrate with us, and don t worry we will have the use of the small building if you need to escape from the summer weather. We will be choosing our champions there and we hope that many of you will compete for that honor. Be on the lookout for further announcements from the autocrat Baroness Brianna. Yours, Flaithri and Rhonwen Greetings from Lady Esperanza Susanna Flecha, Seneschal for the Barony of Stierbach: If you haven't heard the Pearl Passport Promenade is about to start. The Pearl Passport Promenade contest is designed to encourage citizens of Atlantia to increase their attendance of events during the 30th anniversary year of Atlantia. I will be picking up the Stierbach alloment of passports this weekend at Coronation. I will be our coordinator to distribute the passports. I will be making these available by having some at the Canton activities as well, but if you would like one before then please contact me. If you would like more information: I hope to see many of you at Coronation this weekend. A Curia is being held there so I will pass the word on after I receive any new changes or announcements that are made. So, stay tuned. After a week of rain off and on, the clouds parted and The Canton of Sudentorre's annual Defending the Gate event was held. We could hardly have asked for better weather. It was a little cool but the sun was great! I can say it made for wonderful Archery shooting. As we have come to expect from DTG it was a great event, lots of fighting, rapier, A&S and as much archery as you wanted, until you received the perfect score, or as perfect as you wanted. The day's activities were ended with Their Excellencies Baronial court where many awards were given and there was a wonderful feast!!! The Canton put on a great event and I look forward to the next DTG!!! How much are the Loudoun County Fairgrounds as an alterna ve? Used to be $600. Q. Is Prince William Forest a viable alterna ve? Ceridwen would like that pursued before we commit to PW. Baroness will follow up on that. If PW Forest isn t cheaper/viable, the finance commi ee will vote/sign contract with PW Fairgrounds. (btw, we re doing a pay lunch, not a free lunch no ma er what.) Are we ok w/losing money or are we raising fees? Main vote for $10/$1200 budget approved. Brianna has a heavy marshal, head troll, A&S lined up and s out for other volunteers so far. Pennsic-Land Agent needed. LA needs to be there for land grab & there for both weeks. Talk to Seneschal or Excellencies. Main job is to get tent parameters from populace and set up place markers. April Baronial Day -9th or 30th AI might do it. Preferably the 9th. 30th Year sent to youth minister to call for a volunteer to handle youth ac vi es. We have a couple of folks volunteering for Quartermaster, Ranulf and/or Danielle. Website is up, but not published. Check out name on list of staff to be sure it is correct. It s 2+ days. Any ideas to make it all fun and more exci ng, please submit to Siegfried. Roses are not in the budget-we ll need to come up with the extra $400. ACCEPS needs to be set up SOON. How are E-Troll/E-MOL coming along a li le bit on hold. Hoping to have it ready for DTG or Bday.

The event budget of 2400 was discussed based on what the remainer of the amount that was used from previous Holiday Faires, was it actually approved? Even if it was we would still need an event budget from you Marcolo as to how the would be used. If table rentals fit in that amount then I would say you are okay. If they don't and the budget needs to be increased the Barony will need to approve it. Prince William is working at getting new tables approved from the county. If they do this I don't think we would have an issue with paying the $5.00 a table. Esperanza Correction, Marcolo volunteered to be autocrat for Holiday Faire. And we are going with PW Fairgrounds and fees will go up to cover new higher site costs.

Practices Heavy & Fencing Indoor year round Heavy and Rapier fighter practice in the Manassas area: The Prince William Fencing Academy has offered us space at their gym for practice. Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm at the Prince William Fencing Academy 8440 Kao Circle Manassas. It is just down the street from the library where the business meetings are held. This is the largest permanent Olympic style fencing gym in Virginia. That being said there are some specific rules that will need to be followed so that we don t break their equipment: To protect the metal floors no going to your knees for either heavy or rapier.

This will ensure no flying weapons since there will be non-armored combatants in the area as well as a wall of mirrors on one side and 2 scoring machines we don t want to replace. No great weapons again to protect the scoring equipment. There is an annual site waiver you will need to sign from the facility to practice. There is a floor fee of $15 a fighter.
