All shall be made anew, its life and feathery dress, as it was in the beginning, when first victorious noble placed it in the noble plain. It brings there its own bones, the ashes too, which the surge of fire embraced before the funeral pile. Then the valiant bird buries the bones and ashes all together in that water-land. The sign of the sun is renewed for him, when the light of the sky, brightest of jewels, the best of noble stars, shines up from the east over the sea. - It is not sluggish nor slothful, dull nor torpid as some birds who wing their way slowly through the air, but it is speedy and swift and very alert, fair and winsome, and gloriously marked. - The people behold in wonder at how faithful its people are.

Be it Marshal, MoL, Event Steward or ANY job at an event, Baronial Officers, Local Officers, Kingdom Officers, Retainers, Guards, MoM s and EVERY office and job in-between. We ask again that if you are interested in a thing please consider becoming warranted or find other ways to volunteer in that area. Many hands make light work and give everyone a chance to enjoy this game we play. We also wanted to thank Lady Annora, and all members of the populace, who have assisted with the varying hospitality tables we have had at different events, as well as those who have donated to the gift baskets and given us the gift of their time, while acting as retainer or guard. We live in such a diverse and wonderful Barony, and are grateful for each of you. This weekend Alianor was at Ruby Joust. While it was hot and muggy, and ended with a great deal of rain, it was made beautiful by all those whose paths were crossed. It seemed that all were having a wonderful time, despite all that Mother Nature sent at the event. We are both so grateful to Count Sinclair, Countess Kari and their entire extended household for making space for Alianor and Elizabeth Taylor, in their camp and in their hearts.. It was a wonderful weekend indeed. The season is truly ramping up. Soon some of our numbers will be travelling a distance to represent Atlantia and Sacred Stone, at the 50 th year celebration. We wish you safe travels, fair weather and good times. We cannot wait to hear the stories of fun and comradery that you return with. The coming weeks there are a number of events that we will be in attendance to. If you are part of the Guards and Ladies FB Group, Mistress Murienne will be sending out requests for help and has the full list (right now it is listed out with what is currently available, well into 2017) We look forward to seeing everyone at Elchenburg, for University and all the wonderful classes that are lined up. His Excellency will be running a demo throughout the day, and Her Excellency will be teaching a glass class throughout the afternoon. Huzzah for furthering education! Crecy is soon to follow. 3 Lastly, Alianor has been in conversation with Sir Rousel (Rusty), the Atlantian War Lord. The first weekend of June, there will be an Old School War Practice, In the Northern PART OF THE Barony, and then Assessments, in Black Diamond, at the end of June. We ve been looking to have as many combat archers and siege engineers as possible there, to work through varying scenarios. We hope that everyone will make an attempt to attend either event, or both if you are able. We look forward to seeing you at any of the coming events. Please stop by and say hello! Kingdom Corner (from Atlantian Officers via Merry Rose or Facebook) I was greatly encouraged by the showing of our heavy fighters at Ruby Joust last weekend. Great tourney fighting and we also had the opportunity to work with the Atlantian 10-man Unbelt team. I believe there were actually enough fighters for 2 full teams. For those that weren't in the morning court saturday, (or came in late, ahemm..) Thier Royal Majesties have put forward the call to the entire kingdom to marshall Thier fighters and resources and prepare to ally with the Midrealm at this years' Pennsic War. I encourage all fighters, combat archers and siege crews to heed the call of our Royals and begin to prepare and practice. As such, we have (2) more war practices scheduled before August. Old School War Pracitce is this coming weekend, and there have already been a few posts about it,,... and Assessment Battles will be taking place on June 25th in Cliffford VA. We will be able to run Siege at OSWP, and Combat Archery at both. We will also be having a Pass & Review for Thier Majesties and Highness' at Assessments, so encourage everyone who can to plan on attending to stand and be counted!! If you are not on Facebook, you may have missed this opportunity for a free online course from the University of Reading: Just a reminder about the upcoming online course (June 20) on A History of Royal Food and Feasting, jointly provided by Reading University and Historic Royal Palaces:( Currently at least 75 SCAdians have signed up for the course and will learn about Henry VIII at Hampton Court, Elizabeth I at the Tower of London, George I at Hampton Court, George III at Kew Palace. and Victoria at Kensington Palace. The course is 5 weeks long and takes about 3 hours per week. You'll be invited to try making some of the recipes from these various eras. If you haven't signed up, consider doing so, but in any case, please pass the word along to your friends as well as your kingdom's social media. There are no tests! Have fun, Cook stuff!

Typical donation has been $100. Motion was made and 2 nd. Vote was taken: 20 approved; 4 No; 2 Abstentions The coronets are running low on awards especially Draken Eggs for newcomers. A proposal was made to use $50 from general funds for 42 wooden eggs. Flames (candles) and other awards were mentioned. Recommended that the households of the Barony challenge each other to supply awards to Barony. A motion was made to use $75 to purchase the needed A/S Supplies so awards can be made at unevent. Hosting to be by the teens of the Barony although no person was identified to take this to them as a proposal. Motion was made and 2 nd. Vote was taken: 18 approved; 0 No; 3 Abstentions Baronial / Kingdom award recommendations on-line forms are up and running. If you submit an award to the Kingdom, please ping the coronets so they will know what was recommended. This allows them to follow-up and confirm its receipt and to add their comments about the person recommended. WOW write-ups for propaganda are awesome. If you write one in support of Baron Marc, please write one in support of Baroness Alianor. We want both sides to feel wanted. MOL (Minister of the Lists) office is open. Please forward Letters of Interest / Intent to the coronets by June 15 th. Please review your camping gear. We borrowed walls from Baroness Saja of the many names for Flight of the Falcon. These walls were stored in a bin (without a top) on the bottom shelf of one of the kitchen tables. Please base all event budgets on the Member Discount price. *New alcohol policy. VIII. POLICY ON ALCOHOL Manufacturing, distributing, selling, serving, or furnishing of alcoholic beverages by the SCA or its branches or subdivisions is prohibited within the United States and its territories. The use of any SCA funds for the purchase of potable alcohol, except for such quantities as may be necessary for cooking, is prohibited in the United States and its territories. Officers are not prohibited from serving alcohol; however, it must be done as individuals, and not as part of their official duties as officers.

Per the SCA s Policy on Alcohol, Kingdoms or local groups in the United States or its territories cannot manufacture, distribute, sell, serve or furnish alcoholic beverages with SCA funds. As such, Kingdoms and local groups within the United States or its territories cannot purchase any form of temporary or permanent license or permit to serve alcohol from any governmental entity (i.e. states, counties or municipalities) to serve, distribute of furnish alcohol at events; however, this does not preclude a Kingdom or local group from paying an additional fee to the site owner or operator so that individuals can bring alcohol onto a site for their own use alcohol at the event. Individuals may also purchase alcoholic beverages from a lawful vendor (i.e. a bar on site) located on the premises. An additional fee required by a site to allow alcohol for personal consumption is seen as merely part of the cost of renting a site for the SCA event. Any such enhanced site fee must be clearly distinguishable from a license or permit granted by a governmental entity to serve alcoholic beverages. -The Kingdoms Ealdormere and Avacal, as well as local groups in Canada, have been granted a variance in view of Canadian law. -The Kingdom of Lochac is governed by SCA, Ltd. in Australia and SCANZ in New Zealand. -Drachenvald is governed by the applicable rules of the government of the host country. Middle Gate thrown weapons marshal, Reginald de Beauchamp, ran the thrown weapons range for the Barony of Hawkwood Baronial Birthday with 27 participants and 8 first time throwers. (Lord Reginald de Beauchamp) Salesberie Glen: Youth and heavy fighter practices continue on the regularly scheduled weekends with good attendance. The next quarterly practice at the Van Hoy site will be on July 17th in either the early morning or the late afternoon due to the heat. Stay tuned for more details closer to the date. (Baroness Beatrice) And: Fighting like Tigers (youth) continue to have to rebuild swords every few weeks as padding is destroyed between stick and duct tape. Armor is again outgrown as growth spurts have hit. (Lord Gawain de Barri) They could really use donations of youth armor if anyone has stuff they ve outgrown.

10 Crois Brigte: The Canton Knight s Marshal is asking people interested in armored combat to attend one of the existing practices for now. The good people of Aire Falcon gathered together to make leather belt mug holders. Several people who, shame on me, I have forgotten the names of, donated fingerloop braid cords. We had donations of cards and handspun yarn, along with many other items. Thank you to all who donated! You have shown our Royals the great works of the wonderful people of our Kingdom. June 11th will be Atlantian University at the Elkinberg Site. There will somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 classes! There are numerous tracks to satisfy everyone of all walks of A&S. Please take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to come out and learn something new. The weekend of June 18th, Salisberie Glen will be hosting the third Return to Crecy. There will be a war point A&S competitions. Entries should be declared for either the French or English side and should be something that would have been done or used during the 100 years war era. There will be refrigeration available for food entries that might need it. In September of this year, we will be celebrating our Barony s 34th birthday! The Barony is going on an adventure for this birthday and will be exploring the lands of the Far East. We will participate in a traditional Japanese moon-viewing festival, will taste exotic foods, and will have a chance to experience many new things at this exciting event. It will be a little bit different than our normal kind of events, but it is good to try new things every once in awhile! A&S Competitions will include best use of silk and/or paper, a Japanese armor expo, best use of the Holy Bird (the Phoenix), encampment display competition, immaculate garb competition, and moon poetry festival. Charlesbury Crossing still continues to conduct fighter practices and run SCA 101 classes. They participated in a demo called Imaginon Demo in Charlotte. Middle Gate hosted a demo at Makers Space in Burlington which had a good turnout. Aire Faucon has moved their monthly meeting to a Books A Million to get more exposure. They host Newcomer nights once a month. Crois Brigte participated in a demo at the Wake Forest Archery event. So there have been lots of activities going on to generate interest in the SCA. The Newcomer s page on FB has been a good resource for information about activities for both newcomers and others. SAAD always draws newcomers but Mother Nature did not cooperate. We did have some new folks however, and we provided garb for them. We also had a SCA yard sale which went very well and provided some needed items for our newcomers as well. Gardens of Thyme and Return to Crecy III will both draw newcomers. Dorothea del Medue (Kris Bulla) will be standing in for me at Crecy as Chatelaine. She will have the loaner garb and will do a fine job of taking care of our newcomers.

11 Yours in Service, Baroness Caitlin Chancellor of Youth Report (Lady Thamira ha Sopheret) Children's activities took place at Crown Tourney. 11 children participated and the banners we made hung in the hall during feast. (Nothing caught fire, nobody died). There will be classes for children at Gardens of Thyme in place of children's activities. There will be children s activities at Crecy in June. I have been asked to teach "How to Run Children's Activities" at two different events - anyone wishing to learn please let me know and we'll figure out when we can talk. Also consider helping with Children s Activities at Flight of the Falcon. My warrant is still in process - I'll keep y'all updated. Chronicler s Report (Lady Annora Hall) The newsletter will begin showcasing articles concerning how to run different facets of an event. The goal is to showcase two areas per month as a compliment to the classes taught at University and the Unevent. Webminister s Report (Lord Lofrikr) Webministers Report -May Business Meeting- Many updates to the website this month. The awards pages we updated. Rather than continue to track award recipients on the baronial website, we are now live with links to the Kingdoms OP web database. The New Comers webpage was updated. Additional edits to the site were completed based on feedback from Barony members. A couple of sections still need attention since the upgrade. The next area I will be focusing on are our links out to the Canton web pages. The old site was out of date with several dead links, we will be working through those additions in the coming month. I am still looking for volunteers to help with a few graphic design tasks. Also, officers if you have information you would like included on the website, beyond your basic contact info, please reach out to me. The new website has a structure that makes getting that in place for you an easy task. yis, Lord Lofrikr, Webminister Canton Reports Charlesbury Crossing (Giavonna) Weekly fighter practices are going well, the Imaginon Demo was a great success, Our scribes have been meeting at fighter practice to work on their skills- we have had a few A&S classes and meet ups- and have more coming up. Middlegate Lord Simone da Venezia The Canton continues to have A&S every Tuesday. Soon we will have 4 new members moving into the Greensboro area from East Kingdom. Aire Faucon Lady Prudence the Curious The newcomers whom joined us over the winter continue to become more and more active, regularly attending our Thursday night A&S activities and our business meetings. Speaking of newcomers, Flight of the Falcon (August 20 th ) is just around the corner in August. If you would like to help out, provide a A&S demonstration, or teach a class, please contact the autocrat or the group s seneschal. With less than three months to go, it s time to put things together for this free event which is a big draw after Pennsic. The website is up and running. 12 Salesberie Glenn Lord Gawain de Barri An excellent turnout for the Mean Mug arts and sciences continues. We are still running into people interested in the SCA through our presence here. The Canton was very well represented at the recent Crown Tourney and all of our members present gave service to help the Barony make a success of the event. Beyond that our canton members continue to maintain being active in their hobbies that relate to the SCA and are attracting new members and inquiries in EQ, Archery, A&S, and Heavy combat. Additionally, with the sudden lack of local events that support EQ in 2016, canton members are looking to travel beyond the borders of Atlantia to participate in events that are EQ friendly there instead. Examples are Fools War in Meridies was attended and enjoyed by canton members while the upcoming Castle War is being heavily considered by all EQ members of the canton for attendance as are some other events this year and next. Old Business - none New Business See voting recorded in Coronet s report. Regional Seneschal for Western NC position will be filled by a gentle from Marinus. Mistress Murienne is stepping down from that role but will continue to serve eastern NC. Previous events SAAD X was a great success with the largest attendance ever. We had 150 registered in attendance. Due to the efficiency of using already acquired materials for targets, our costs were low and the event made $1,044. I wish to thank everyone again for their support and help in making our anniversary year such a success. The canton has decided to make it an every other year event and to support MAAD next year. SAAD has been spiked by Crois Brighte for April 27-29, Crown earned $5026; after expenses made a profit of $2700. $1300 went to Kingdom. We had 280 adults; 50 kids; for a total of 330 participants. The site wants us back. They required a $1000 deposit for the camp and $300 security deposit for cabins. Upcoming events Return to Crecy III, June 17-19th 2016; Baroness Beatrice is Autocrating.
