3 Attendance: 26 Announcements: None from Kingdom. General announcement: Stierbach will be the opponent at next year s War of the Wings, not Black Diamond. University will be held in Isenfir soon. The catalog was posted today (01/13). Ymir is running out of cabin space, but our new Baron and Baroness will have a Black Diamond cabin. Please note that you would like to stay with Black Diamond on your registration. Congratulations to our new Baron and Baroness, Mac Con Mac Rodàìn and Graçìa Esperança de Sevilla! Officer Reports Seneschal: No report. Their Excellencies: Castellan: Our outgoing Baron and Baroness, Roussell le Tavernier and Gayla atta Blacwolfe, would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported them during the last 2 years. Two new contacts were made through the website. Since Targue will be our new Baron, Lady Oliva Isabelle will be taking the post of Chatelaine. Magpie sent out forms via the Listserve and the Yahoo list last week. The form also serves as a permission to publish contact information. If you are an officer, a deputy, a marshal or if you host an activity, please fill the form out noting which items it s OK for her to publish and get it back to her! Always, she needs articles and imagery. If you ve got an article or picture ready, please feel free to submit it. That being said, please also remember that The Faire in the E & E is meant to function as our Barony s Craigslist. Knight Martial: Librarian: MOAS: Her Excellency Metylda the Cunning will be stepping up at Ice Castles as Knight Marshal. Weather cooperating, Lady Anne will be bringing the Library to Ice Castles. The Library is now valued at ~$2000, as she replaced many old or absent editions of Tournaments Illuminated, The Compleat Anachronist and several other Kingdom and Society publications, as well as replacing some of our other books. She will also try bringing a Library Sampler to meetings for all of us to browse. Samplers are planned to be themed; for instance, February s will be on brewing (as St. Pyr s is our next event). Several A & S competitions will be held at Ice Castles, all centered around the best use of castle imagery theme. There will be contests in scribal, poetry, 3-D items and a bardic competition. We need judges for these competitions as well! Please contact Lady Wennlyan if you d like to be one. There is lots of dancing planned for Ice Castles. Lady Allegranza will now be hosting an A & S night on Thursday nights at her home in Blacksburg, starting at 6:00 and ending no later than 9:00 pm.

5 For those who need transportation, she will have a van ready at the War Memorial at Tech at 5:30, ready to take passengers home at 9:00. (Her van seats 6.) A couple of other people have also volunteered rides, so please see the Yahoo list for further details. These gatherings will be themed. In February, the first two weeks are planned to be spent on making spiff Viking gear (especially for those who want to go to Ymir) and the latter part of the month is planned on learning period whole-cloth quilting. Plans have also been made for March and April. This Friday (01/15) will be Sock Night at Lady Aneira s house. Lady Tangwystel is teaching sock knitting and there will be a potluck. Please bring $21 for yarn and a set of size 5 double-pointed needles if you want to join in the fun. Lady Soarcha is hosting Scribal nights again in Roanoke on Mondays. Please contact her for details and directions. Lexington will be having Dance Practice on the last Tuesday of the month. We need baronial favors for Ice Castles! Please contact Lady Wenllyan for details. If you d like to host an A & S activity, please contact Lady Wenllyan! MOL: No report. Quartermaster: While His Excellency Baron Aldemere has not yet been deployed, he has been exploring an avenue with the National Guard that might give him orders soon. Meanwhile, he s still with us. He has been Quartermaster for quite a while and is getting burned out on it. He suggests the barony rent a ~10 x 20 storage space somewhere with controlled access. While he was inventorying our baronial equipment, he noted that we have four water dogs, with frames, yet we only use (at most) two at a time. He suggested we sell the other two water dogs and frames. Webminister: No report. Events: Ice Castles: (Lady Oliva Isabelle:) If you need to retrieve equipment or supplies for Ice Castles, please do it now, well in advance of the event. The barony will not be reserving extra cabins, but please feel free to negotiate with Camp Bethel on your own if you want one. Morning Court will be held at 9:45 am. We still need extra help for Troll during the morning hours. The pre-registration deadline ended Monday (01/11). St Pyr s: Event is set for the last weekend in March. Location was booked today.

6 There will be a bardic drinking song competition at the event. There was a suggestion made to include some marshaling classes at the event. Assessment 2010: Event is set for July 10. Money has not been committed to the site yet but once that has been completed the event will be SPIKEd as soon as possible. Old Business: Spending Authorizations: vote was taken on spending authorizations (what was formerly called our budget ) for the next six months. Amounts as agreed during the December meeting were: Archery: $ The population and officer votes were both unanimous. SPENDING AUTHORIZATION PASSED. The Exchequer promised to send a copy of our Financial Policy for publishing in the E & E. New Business: New List Field: Lord Edward Fitzcarl has designed a new ERIK-style list field for the barony that is a fully modular system. It has lighted (torch) corners with optional banners for day use. He will be doing the pipe and fittings for this project. He has mapped out two possible arrangements: one, a series of 4 ea. 12 x 12 fields (which can be rearranged into 2 ea. 12 x 24 fields) or 4 ea. 16 x 16 fields which, again, can be rearranged. Approximate costs before taxes are $ for the 12 x 12 arrangement and $ for the 16 x 16 size. Motion made to pre-approve $300 for construction of an initial list (16 x 16 size). Motion seconded. Populace vote: 11 aye, 0 nay, 0 abstentions. Officer vote: unanimous aye. MOTION CARRIED. Pavilion Top: All that remains of this issue is a vote. Minutes from the November meeting discussing this topic were read. Officers and population were polled; both were unanimous aye. MOTION PASSED to purchase the new 12 x 16 marquis top.
