2 TOURNAMENT OF THE GOLDEN ROSE April 18, 2015 Makemie Woods Camp and Conference Center 3700 Roper's Church Road, Lanexa, VA One of the most unique events held in Atlantia. Once again, the Golden Rose Tournament is being held on the beautiful lands of Caer Mear. The Tournament of the Golden Rose began six years ago. The members of the order select a team in order to display to the Kingdom those people that the Roses find inspiring and worthy of recognition as well as sponsoring a team to represent the Heavenly Roses. Each team consists of: 1 Archer 2 Armored Combatants (heavy, non-chivalry) 1 Order of the Chivalry 2 Duelists (rapier, non-white Scarf) 1 Herald 1 Order of the White Scarf In previous years, the Order has presented banners at each tournament to people whom they felt exemplified certain characteristics such as charity, joie de vivre, grace, and other worthy traits. The gracious Ladies encourage you to speak to any Lady of the Rose if you have questions about teams, or would like to express your interest in being chosen. Information taken from News Flash! From the Ymir website Attention Armored Fighters! At the request of the Kingdom Knights Marshall, at Ymir this year we will be paying special attention to proper helmet padding. We will inspect every helmet for proper padding. This will be a new standard before every tourney in fair Atlantia, we have the honor of being the first to place this special emphasis on inspecting them. We ask all fighters to inspect their own helmets before arriving at Ymir to ensure that your helmet meets current Kingdom of Atlantia padding standards. We will have some simple repair materials on hand in the event that an issue is identified. 5 G ood day fair gentles! I have updated the Acorn flyer and the web site for Joust will be live very soon. I will be sending out missives asking for volunteers to help with everything from MOL's and MIC's to Gate help and donations for the Queen's Tea. My big two right now are Land Agent and Field Space organizer. My plan is to do a similar set up to last year, each group gets x amount of space based on how many folks pre-reg with one person being the camp land agent. We had minimal grumbling last year and I think it will work again this year. I currently have 2 offices filled, the Archery MIC and the MOAS. The Gem Joust is our biggest and most widely known event. It just so happens that this year, by the reckoning of gentles I trust, is the 40th anniversary of the Joust. If many hands make light work, my goal for this Joust is for as many people as possible to enjoy themselves and have fun whilst at the same time, give of a few minutes of their time to help in any area they wish to make this possible. No gift of time and service is too small. I am also open to any suggestions. Chapter and Verse (Just a quick FYI) Back in 2005 Rick Riordon wrote a series of books for young people based on Greek mythology. They were titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The first book is scheduled for release in October of this year and is titled: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer (Rick Riordan's Norse Mythology).

6 Chapter and Verse (Just a quick FYI) Back in 2005 Rick Riordon wrote a series of books for young people based on Greek mythology. They were titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Well they were a great series of books and a few (in my opinion) mediocre movies. However, Mr Riordan is starting another series of book this time using the Norse pantheon! The first book is scheduled for release in October of this year and is titled: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer (Rick Riordan's Norse Mythology). The storyline and main character may feel familiar if you ve read the Percy Jackson series but I it still may be a good addition for your families reading list. February 21st The practice will be held at Cooper's field Defense Road, Petersburg, VA, and will begin at 11:00am Everyone is welcome and highly encouraged to attend. From the Atlantia FB page The Sergeants of Saint Aidan will be hosting a War Practice/Get together on the 7th of March at Noon. Object will be to meet all comers (Heavies, Archers', Siege, fencers), and we will go over a very basic playbook we will be handing out. If you are a local unit commander, please come. If you are just starting out, please come. The Plays will be very KISS. Afterwards we will be hosting a get together in a large pavilion for the army to get to know each other. The Practice site will be at Silverleaf estate in Clarksville. The Owners are OK with people spending the night on site in tents, and there are hotels in the area.
