5 Welcome to Futurity Welcome to the 10th Annual Futurity On Property Bull sale and celebration of 30 years of Futurity breeding registered shorthorn cattle. When starting from humble beginnings it makes us very proud that we have developed or herd into one of Australia s largest Shorthorn seed stock herds, and premium genetic providers for the shorthorn breed and the wider beef industry. Our goals have always been simple provide cattle that add value and profitability throughout the supply chain. Easy care cattle for the cow calf producers, cattle that have rapid growth in the feed yard and cattle that have excellent carcase characteristic and eating quality for the processor and retailer. Sounds simple but it dose take some doing. After thirty years we feel we have the cattle that represent our goals. Achieving this without sacrificing growth rate and carcase yield. We have selected for hardy easy-care cattle that can withstand adverse seasonal conditions, wean the highest calving percentages and also recognise the consumer demand for eating quality. Eating quality for the shorthorn breed has never been so important, it underpins the success of the JBS Thousand Guineas Program. Excellence in consumer satisfaction is what sets the Shorthorn breed apart from other breeds that don t have the ability to marble at a high and consistent level, and have its own rewarding taste profile. Excellence in Eating quality simply gets a breed or beef brand out of the commodity market and into premium market were premiums pricing for product can be asked of the consumer. Over the years we have develop many long-standing relationships with beef producers that have partnered with us in the development of their cattle herds which is the most rewarding part of what we do. Without these relationships we would not be able to gain feedback and data on the performance of the cattle to help improve our product. About the bulls This year s 55 sale bulls are the pick of the 116 retained for sale in We have limited the sale number this year due to poor seasonal conditions for most beef produces but in doing so without doubt have the best line of bulls we have ever presented. The bulls are very balanced across all traits and their performance data is testimony to that. Due to our commitment to producing accurate performance data (EBV s) the bulls have been run in one contemporary group for all their data recording. The bulls have been tested negative to Pesti Virus vaccinated with 7 in 1, Vibrio, and Pestiguard. They have also been semen tested to ensure they are ready to go straight to work for you. Edged in Stone was what we believed to be our best Zeus H140 son that we bred. We used Edged in Sone though AI when he was a yearling as one of the main AI sires. Unfortunately he was injured by another bull and was unable to be used physically. Edged in stone is also a Maternal brother to Futurity Game Changer who was our top priced bull in 2013 selling to Southcote Shorthorns.
