Together with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism we compile a yearly management plan which is then followed by our professional hunters with great expertise and high ethical standards. All together there are some 51 mammal species, ranging from the dainty Damara dik-dik to the majestic eland, zebras, giraffes, leopards or blue wildebeest. They share the reserve with reptiles and insects as well as numerous bird species. Together with the various falcon, eagle and vulture species, the birds amount to 192 species that are permanent residents and 37 that come visiting regularly. At Kambaku fair and just hunting is an obvious prerequisite when appointing professional hunters who love their careers and would like to retain them. For us it is not the quantity of trophies or kills that count, but rather the quality and the experience itself. KAMBAKU S WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT 8000 ha Bush savanna Our goal is to carefully manage the Kambaku Wildlife Reserve in harmony with nature, setting the scene for a healthy future. For this reason we follow an intensive and sustainable wildlife management programme. A lot of time and energy goes into the stewards hip and care of our reserve. The typical tasks of our game wardens include regular animal counts and the keeping of species lists, observation of breeding and rest areas, supplying minerals, erecting and maintaining water points and game fences, as well as keeping a watchful eye on possible traps and poachers. As our hunting guest you have the opportunity to experience a superior African hunting adventure and, at the same time, co-manage the ecological development Please take note: We select very carefully! Every professional hunter, whether hunting 1:1 or 2:1, will not hunt more than 1-2 animals per day. To keep the game numbers in balance, we reduce the herds in equal numbers to the annual births. Hence we focus, as part of our conservation ethos, on taking out old cows, weak bulls and weak young animals. These culls are included in our one-day or extra-days package deal. 6 7

6 How do I get my trophies home? KAMBAKU WILDLIFE RESERVE Iinformation & Faq How much time should I allow for my Namibian hunt? Your hunting booking at the lodge should be for at least three full days. The Kambaku team however recommends that you rather plan for six days. This will give you time to get to know the plant and animal life of Kambaku, making your hunting experience so much more rewarding. Can I bring my own hunting-weapons? It is possible without problems to bring your own weapon, including 40 shots of ammunition into Namibia. Not permitted are handguns and semi-automatics. Please remember that the African game is superior to the European in strength and toughness. You should opt for a minimum calibre of for your hunting safari. How do we hunt at Kambaku? Your team of professional hunters or hunting guides and trackers will be at your side throughout the entire safari. They will discuss with you which kind of hunting technique you prefer. At Kambaku, hunting is generally conducted on a stalk-basis. It is likewise an appealing option to hunt from a hide and both can be combined if requested. Vehicles suited to the bushy terrain (4x4 s) will be at your disposal throughout the duration of the hunt. How can I prepare for my Namibian hunt? For the less practised shots, it is recommended that you visit a shooting range before your trip to refine your aim when taking standing aim. If you are able to practise using a rifle rest or freehand it would be to your advantage. Please bear in mind that you will seldom need to shoot far in the Namibian bush savannah, but you will need to shoot fast. Practise shooting fast shots one after the other - this will be very handy in extreme situations. But you can practise more than just your rifle skills. There are many very good books about Namibian wildlife that you can buy at bookstores or via Can I hunt all year round in Namibia? It is not allowed to hunt all the year around. The hunting season normally begins on February 1st and ends on November 30th. What should I bring along? Do I need a hunting licence? No, you will not need a hunting licence from your own country for your hunt in Namibia. But it is important to give our hunters some information about your level of experience when you book. If you have little experience we will gradually familiarize you with the hunt. You will learn to handle hunting weapons and shoot safely, moving through bush and accosting wild life. It is worthwhile remembering that one needs at least one week (6 hunting days) before one can truly hunt and be entrusted to do so safely. Are there restrictions on the number of trophies? Yes, according to Namibian hunting law there can only be two trophies per species. After the hunt your Kambaku Team will clean, salt and dry your trophies. Approximately two weeks after your departure our team will hand your now completely dry trophies over to Marlon Beyer, taxidermist in Otjiwarongo. Up to this point you will not incur any additional costs as the hunting price is inclusive of our complete service. Should you opt for a different taxidermist then Kambaku will charge you any ad ditional transport cost incurred. On the last day of your stay you will discuss further processing of your trophies with your professional hunter. The procedure to follow from now on will be based on the order signed by you for the taxidermist. It is up to you to decide whether your trophies are to be dipped (chemically sterilised) only, bleached or mounted on a board. You can also choose to have a shoulder mount or a full mount prepared in Namibia. How long does delivery of my trophy take? The taxidermist needs between 3 and 10 months to complete his work, depending on the specific tasks assigned to him. He will send you his bill once the job is complete. As soon as this is paid, the transport to Windhoek will be organised. Unfortunately we cannot provide a shipping price list for your home country, as there are too many varying factors involved. Prices depend on weight and volume as well as airport taxes, insurance, veterinary inspections and customs both in Namibia and in your home country. The forwarding agent will send you a bill for the transport of your trophies. They will be shipped to you as soon as you have paid this bill. Please allow around a month for shipping from Otjiwarongo to Frankfurt (for example). The total time taken for cleaning, drying, processing and transport of your trophies will be approximately 3 to 6 months. For shoulder and full mounts you should allow from 9 to 12 months. Faster preparation would invariably be at the expense of quality. Example of costs for exporting a trophy It is no easy task giving concrete calculations. However, to give you an idea of the additional costs involved, here is an example: A wooden box measuring 109 x 79 x 78 cm weighing 100 kg will cost in the region of: 120 Shipping Otjiwarongo to Windhoek 600 Air freight from Windhoek to Frankfurt 120 Export documentation in Namibia 60 Basic transport insurance Thus, total shipping cost to Frankfurt Airport = approximately 900. In addition, there are fees payable to the authorities in your country, customs and transport from the airport to your home. The Namibian Nature Conservation Board has authorised a number of taxidermists and transport companies to prepare trophies for shipping abroad. Self-shipping of your trophies immediately after the hunt is possible, however, no complete export papers will be provided (i.e. no exemption from VAT) and legal imports into the European Union are not possible
