I hope those who are hunters are having success in their quest for game meat. The fall weather is certainly upon us now! This has been an exceptional year, for sure. The unprecedented closure of our ranges due to the extreme fire conditions this summer was certainly something I hope we don t see again! The unfortunate fatal accident at our range this past summer makes us aware of the inherent danger of our shooting sports, and should give us all cause to reflect and continue to be vigilant at all times. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the SASS Canadian National Cowboy Action Shooting Championships in August, again due to the extreme fire conditions. Membership continues to grow. We have exceeded 1,300 members the past two years. Our members continue to bring home the awards for their exceptional shooting skills. Jacquie Brown won the Provincial rimfire silhouette competition in Prince George; while Marc Thibault placed in the top 6 at the World Full-bore Championships in Ontario this past season. Our Archery division put on another very successful field course competition last April. It is proving to be one the archers don t want to miss! 9 Junior Program The IPSC shooters are so impressed with our facilities that they will be hosting the Provincials here next year. The end of October will see the first official Full-bore competition at our new 900 yard range facility. This is something the rifle shooters have been waiting for some time now. Overall our Club is doing well. New improvements continue, and new people are joining, which combine to make a very vibrant club. I again urge you to bring someone new to our ranges and introduce them to the wonderful world of sport shooting. Be safe, have fun, BE SAFE! I wish all the best of the coming festive season to you all. Enjoy time with your family and friends! Providing recreational target shooting opportunities in our community 1 of 10

2. Membership By Stefan Schweizer (Director) During September we had reached 1,328 members, which is nearly the membership count of all of 2016 (1,333). So it s safe to assume we going to crack this number this year. As of writing of this report 325 of those 1,328 are new members and 1,003 renewing. The reason for this high turnover might be to some extend that a club membership is required to transfer a restricted firearm. Please be reminded that you need to keep your membership current and not just to get the transfer done. This is a requirement! 1,196 members are Kamloops residents. 129 from outside Kamloops but BC residents and three are from out of Province. We also noticed a slight increase in Family memberships this year. We have 1,055 male and 273 female members. We also have 89 members under 18; some are shooting in our Junior Program. Which is awesome. If you have a Junior (under 18) consider trying out our Junior Program. Your family membership includes up to three people, more can be added for an additional $20 per person. We also have a competitive shooting and Air Rifle program. Contact Pat Landals for more information. In the Fall of this year, we switched from our old website over to a new design and new features. We now have a calendar showing events. You can subscribe to the calendar with most modern Web based systems (Gmail, icloud, etc.), desktop programs (Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird with Lightning), or your smartphone, and stay up to date on events and range closures. Just click on the Subscribe button on the bottom of the calendar site. Let us know if you have any feedback, miss any features etc. Please send your comments to info@ktsa.ca. Thank you! 3. Cowboy Action Shooting By Jim Bartlett (Director) Cowboy Action Shooting has been a popular sport for a number of decades. Participants compete shooting single-action revolvers as well as rifles and shotguns from the mid-late 1800 s Wild West era. Most shooters use replica firearms; however, a few are fortunate enough to own and use vintage pieces in competition. There is also a division of Cowboy Action Shooting called Wild Bunch that uses different firearms, most notably 1911 semiautomatic pistols (.45 ACP) instead of single-action revolvers. Cowboy Action Shooting has been spearheaded by The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) for thirty years, an international organization that promulgates rules/procedures of the game, offers training for match officials and sanctions official matches. SASS currently has over 97,000 members worldwide in over 700 affiliated clubs. In addition, countless thousands of other individuals participate in cowboy shooting worldwide outside the auspices of SASS. While certainly competitive and with safety being paramount, the emphasis in Cowboy Action Shooting is on fun. Shooters dress in eraappropriate clothing depending on their shooting categories. Those shooting in the B Western class dress in old Hollywood cowboy movie style with lots of glittering studs on their gun belts and in colourful clothing with sequins and fringes! Shooters in Plainsman and Frontier Cartridge categories use black powder and might dress in buckskins. An increasing number of our shooters are women and the sport is also enjoyed by kids (they can shoot lighter calibre firearms). Major competitions include evening social events (banquets, entertainment) that usually include costume contests with gentlemen often wearing the formal dress of the era and ladies in hooped gowns. Along with the other shooting sports in our area, Cowboy Action Shooting had a difficult summer. Our KTSA range, along with the others in the Providing recreational target shooting opportunities in our community 2 of 10

Interior, was closed for over two months due to the unprecedented wildfire hazard. We had to cancel a scheduled fun shoot in July and, most unfortunately, the Canadian Cowboy Action Nationals Championships that we had planned to host over the Labour Day weekend. Finally, the weather changed and we were able to hold a wellattended and successful fun shoot on October 15 th. Let s hope for a more normal season in 2018! Individuals interested in Cowboy Action Shooting are encouraged to attend one of our events as spectators. That s the best way to see how much fun the sport has to offer! We hold a number of fun shoots throughout the Spring/Summer/Fall. These are one-day events, usually held on Sundays. Check our club website (ktsa.ca) or that of our sister club (heffleycreekgunclub.com) for schedules that will get under way in the spring. We also suggest that you browse YouTube there are many interesting videos that will give you a flavour of the sport. We hold Cowboy Action Shooting practices at our indoor range from now and into the Spring, so if you are interested in having a look at the sport, or want or want to learn more, get in touch you ll find contact information at ktsa.ca. Shooters from Kamloops, 100 Mile House, and Mission enjoyed the October 15 th Cowboy Fun Shoot at our KTSA outdoor range. 4 This young competitor really has the cowboy spirit! These four ladies are dressed for the evening festivities after a day of great shooting. 4. Archery By Ken Chantler (Director) The outdoor archery season is coming to an end except for the few brave souls who use the outdoor range thru out the winter weather permitting. Our 3-D shoot in April was another great success and planning has already started for next April s shoot. Thanks again to Brent and Brent who organized and ran the lunch barbeque for last April s shoot. For next year s 3-D shoot, we will have a Saturday work party in early April to work on the outdoor range and move targets out on the course for the 3-D shoot. Any member who is interested in help with the organization of the shoot, please contact me. Monday night drop ins at the indoor range has started for the winter, 6-8 pm. So feel free to drop down and check out the set up. We are looking for a couple of members with access to an ATV to maintain the bag course at the outdoor range. This would involve moving the targets out in the spring and back into storage in the fall. We are also looking for heavy burlap sacks that can be used for bag course targets and use shrink rap used for stuffing targets. An alligator on the bank. 5 A happy group on the trail. A shot at a rare Kamloops sage caribou. 5. IPSC By Brent Andres (Director) IPSC is the acronym for International Practical Shooting Confederation. IPSC is a dynamic shooting sport where the principles of accuracy, speed and power are balanced in a unique scoring system. IPSC has defined Action Shooting. It requires competitors to shoot fast and accurately often shooting on the move and developing techniques and styles to shave off fractions of a second between shots, during reloads and drawing from the holster. IPSC Canada is the governing body for our sport in Canada. Kamloops had a Double Qualifier this year in IPSC on June 10 and 11. There were 120 shooters both days which were sold out. A big thanks to everyone who helped out with this event. We had more qualifiers and fun matches in mind, but due to the fires, the range was closed. We have nine new Black Badge members, which have all since qualified. One new Junior Member, 15-year-old Seren Dawes, placed first in the Unclassified Division at her second qualifier. Way to go Seren! Ron Brady placed first in C Class Classic Division at the BC Nationals. So far, our plans for next year are to hold a Double Qualifier on June 9 and 10 and to host the BC Provincials on August 31, September 1 and 2, which will be a huge event. For anyone interested in the Black Badge course please contact Ron Brady at Go to IPSC BC for additional information or search IPSC on You Tube for pictures and videos Canadian National Championship- Calgary, Alberta KTSA Junior Member KTSA Member Providing recreational target shooting opportunities in our community 5 of 10

6. Recreational By Ron Brady (Director) There has not been much activity this year at the outdoor range, due mainly to the fires that had our range closed for all the summer. We hope that next year will be better. The indoor range season is upon us and the disciplines have moved indoors. See the range schedule for information. Information on the annual indoor matches will be available soon so be on the lookout for the registrations for each. Providing recreational target shooting opportunities in our community 6 of 10

7. Range Warden By Don Morphy (Range Warden) The fire danger ban has been removed finally. After two months of no shooting our members are landing in droves on the outdoor ranges. I would like to thank all the members for their patience and understanding during this unprecedented fire season year. Can you imagine what a summer to remember this would have been without the fire ban and smoke? Hot days, warm evenings and no wind to speak of on most any day. Could have been an awesome summer. The range use signs in the bays & firing point sheds and in the sign in shack clearly show which firearm types that may be used at each of the bays and/or ranges. The KTSA Range Rules clearly spell out the use of the various ranges and bays and yet we still find empty shotgun shells in bays where shotguns should not be. New members and renewed members need to become more familiar with the KTSA range rules. Some of the rules are explained as follows: Shotgunners need to take note: Shotguns are not to be used anywhere on club property except in Bay #2, Bay #3 and Bay #4. Bay #4 has steel targets that are shotshell acceptable (not slugs) as well as target backer boards in stands for pistol and rifle targets. Do not move target backer boards and stands into Bay #2 or Bay #3. Acceptable shotgun targets continue to be clay targets, cans and balloons no glass. If you need a shotgun target board or a shotgun target stand you will need to make and bring your own stuff to destroy. All shotgun users are expected to clean up their own empties like everyone else. Some of you think you are exempted from this task. I can assure you that is not the case. Shotgun use in any other bays other than Bay #2, Bay #3 and Bay #4 are not allowed except at organized practices and events. Manual clay target throwing machines are mounted on a concrete pad in each of the bays # 2 & # 3. They are there for all to use. They are elevation adjustable sit on type units for regular clay targets. They will throw singles or doubles. Each of the other rifle/pistol bays should have at least one or two new style portable ground type target stands and/or a target board on metal stands. The portable type stand holds a two foot by four-foot target board in the notch and is designed to hold a target board in a vertical or horizontal position. If the top of the target board is shot badly, turn it upside down or sideways and use it again. Hitting the target board holder usually results in the holder being ruined. Try to avoid hitting the metal part of the stand. (a task that eludes some of our members) Bay #1 (60 yards) has shooting benches as well as loading tables for you to put your gear on and in. Please remember, portable shooting stands and portable shooting benches are never to be placed in a position behind any safety (loading) table. The KTSA will supply target backer boards for pistol and rifle paper targets. Target backer boards are not for shotgun use no exceptions! Please read the range rules often. Some of the rules have changed. For those of you who are not sure The Short Range is for rimfire rifles and/or any handgun. NO SHOTGUNS OR HIGH VELOCITY (over 1600 fps) CENTER FIRE RIFLES!! There is now a large trash bin across the road from the sign in shack. If you wish you can place used targets, cans and balloons that you have used throughout the shooting day into this container. We will only use this container April 1 to October 31 each year. The truck that empties the bin will not be able make winter pick-ups at our off-road location. The CLUB HOUSE, beside the long range road, has a wood stove in it that is fully functional. The unit burns wood of about 12 to 14 inches in length and heats the room nicely. Any responsible club member that uses the outdoor bays often thru cold weather and wishes to have a key may contact me or any other board member. A list of key holders is kept on file by the KTSA. After having the property to themselves for a Providing recreational target shooting opportunities in our community 7 of 10

couple of months the cows had made a mess of much of club property. Target stands were rub posts till they broke or were flattened. Each shooting line shed had been overnighted in many times. Accumulated dust and dirt etc. was everywhere. I must say thank you to 10 KTSA members that showed up for the Friday work party. Their work allowed us to open the range Saturday morning September 9th. This hearty group cleaned, dug, swept, washed and mowed almost every square foot of land we occupy. Most of them asked not be named in this letter but they know who they are. A ton of work was done. AN AWSOME JOB DONE & THANK YOU ALL! 8. Full Bore By Brad Traynor (Director) For the most part the club had a pretty quiet summer due to the fire risk. We did get the 900 yard firing point up and running and we have most of the bugs worked out. The practice times for this distance are the second Monday of each month from noon until dusk. The club has gotten a lot of interest from out of town people wanting to shoot at a longer distance being that KTSA is the only range in BC that can shoot 900 yards. Just a reminder that F class shooting times are open to everyone who would like to shoot at the longer distances. We have our first true match on Oct 28-29, 2017 at the 900-yard firing point. This Match sold out really fast and had a waiting list. There are people coming from all over Western Canada to try out the new setup. The 2016 and 2017 F Class Winter League had a great season, we had many new shooters and had a good turn out. If any one is interested in shooting F Class this is the ideal time to start. This is the time where all the regular shooters practice shooting techniques and develop loads for their guns. Everyone there is very helpful and always willing to help new shooters. The 2017/2018 Season will start on the first Sunday in December at 10:00 am. The Art Borne Match in the spring was a success. We had a lot of great feed back on how the events were run. I want to thank all the target pullers for their good work and also thanks to Brent Weaver for setting up and running the BBQ at all of our shoots. In F Class matches all over Canada, Kamloops Shooters always perform very well. I would like to congratulate some of our local shooters on doing very well this year Navy Match in Victoria Barry Prost for Winning First in F-Open and Match Winner. Junior Program By Curt Tinney (Director) & Darrin Ostapowich The Junior Program is on! We shoot.22 target rifles on Friday nights at our indoor range from 7-9pm. The fall session will run until early December, then will reconvene in January for the spring session, ending in April. Junior shooters who wish to join must be KTSA members, be years of age, and have a good attitude. We supply the supervision, safety training, rifles, eye/ear protection, ammunition, targets and other required equipment. Our Juniors are taught firearm safe handling focussing on the ACTS and PROVE method. After demonstrating the ability to safely handle the rifle, they are allowed onto the range where they are first taught to shoot bullseyes from the prone position. As their strength and ability increases, we teach the kneeling and offhand shooting positions. Our Juniors have also participated in the DCRA Winter Postal Shoot with some winning a Marksman level badge. In May of this year, our club is hosting the Provincial competition where some of our Juniors will compete. We do have limited space and currently a few spots available for any interested Junior KTSA members. Contact ctinney@telus.net for more info. Shoot straight and shoot safe.
