3 POSSIBLE GUIDES ON YOUR SAFARI Professional Guide - Nick Murray Nick attended high school in Zimbabwe and university in South Africa where he graduated with a degree in Zoology. He has guided through out Zimbabwe and has toured in Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania. He is experienced in wildlife management, Game Ranching and Game Capture. From he was a freelance guide in various lodges and camps in the Kariba, Hwange, and Mana Pools areas. He also served as an examiner/observer on the board for the Professional Guides proficiency test. Nick will personally guide you on a journey down the Zambezi River in Mana Pools National Park. Mana Pools is a world heritage site and one of the most beautiful parks in Africa. Walking and canoeing amongst the elephants is an experience like no other. Professional Guide Mark Friend Being the 5 th Generation born in Southern Africa, Mark was born in 1978 in the heart of Zimbabwe and spent his youth growing up in the rural farming community areas where he very quickly developed his passion for the African bush, its wildlife and people. In 2002, He obtained his Professional Guides License winning the award for Best Guide on Proficiency. Mark has continued to spend his guiding career, traveling around Zimbabwe, working within the diverse ecosystems that it s National Parks and Wildlife areas have to offer.

4 ITINERARY DAY 01 USA/JOHANNESBURG Depart on your overnight international flight to Johannesburg. DAY 02 JOHANNESBURG On arrival in Johannesburg you will be met and assisted to your hotel. Johannesburg began as a mining town when the largest deposits of gold in the world were discovered in the Witwatersrand in This City of Gold and locally known as Egoli, is now the country s largest commercial center and city and the country s main gateway for overseas visitors. The city itself has a population of approximately 2 million, while the total urban area including Soweto (SOuth WEstern TOwnships) has a population of approximately 4 million. Accommodation: InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport Hotel (B) DAY 03 JOHANNESBURG/HARARE/MANA POOLS Make your way back to the airport for your scheduled flight to Harare. On arrival you will board your scheduled charter flight to Mana Pools National Park. You will be met by your private guide and transferred to camp. *PLEASE NOTE* There is a luggage limit of 44lbs (20kg) per person on the charter flight so pre-pack your luggage accordingly. Scheduled Charter flights times are estimates and may include multiple stops.

5 The park covers a section of the Middle Zambezi Valley, extending from the Zambezi River in the north to the escarpment in the south. The Zambezi Valley is a western extension of the Great Rift Valley. The Pools of Mana are lakes that mark former courses of the Zambezi. They are refilled by the swollen river during the rains and are home to populations of hippo, crocodiles and birds. During the summer months, shortages of food and water force the animals back towards the Zambezi River. This is prime time to game view for elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, and other species including eland, lion, leopard and hyena. Little Vundu is a traditional luxury tented camp is situated in the heart of Mana Pools National Park. The intimate camp offers a personalized service for the discerning adventurer who wants a real bush experience. The en suite tents are on the banks of the Zambezi River nestled in a grove of sausage trees and tall ebony trees. The dining room is across a picturesque channel linked by a foot bridge, it is shaded by the acacia trees that Mana Pools is famous for. The elephants especially stop by to feast on the pods which are an important part of the animal s diet. The activities are varied, walks, drives, canoeing and fishing. The activities are planned to fit you and what action is going on in the bush at the time, so you get to experience the best out of what is happening in Mana Pools. Accommodation: Little Vundu (Full Board) DAY 04 MANA POOLS Enjoy a full day of game viewing taking game drives and walks. Encounters may include finding one of the resident bull elephants and/or one of the few wild dog packs that allow close approach on foot. Accommodation: Little Vundu (Full Board) DAY 05 MANA POOLS CANOE/WALKING SAFARI This morning you will be briefed on your canoe/walking trip for the next night. You are doing your own canoeing with the current in sturdy 18ft Canadian canoes. Paddle your way through the sand banks and islands, watching pods of hippo or elephants wallowing at midday to cool off. If you prefer, you can sit in the canoe with a paddler.

6 As there is a Land Rover back-up vehicle, game drives are taken, along with walks to explore and appreciate the rich floodplain and river channels of Mana Pools National Park. This is not a safari to prove how many kilometers you can paddle in a day. All luggage and gear will be driven ahead to the mobile camp, which is set up in advance. A typical day of your canoeing safari will begin at dawn. Tea and coffee are served before setting off on the river to view the sun rising over the Zambezi. Lunch and cold drinks are taken along. After some canoeing, you will stop at a site for breakfast, cooked by your guide. Then you may take a short walk and/or game drive. The rest of the day is spent canoeing downstream, game viewing by foot, bird watching, or fishing before you arrive at camp at dusk. You will cover approximately 25 km (15 miles) in total. At dusk, you will arrive at your campsite where the tents will already be set up. Your luggage will have been driven ahead to the camp. Accommodations are in mobile safari tents with beds, linen and mosquito netting. The shower tent and toilet tent are situated en suite to each sleeping tent. 7 DAY 06 MANA POOLS Enjoy a further day with optional canoeing, game drives and walking. A highlight may be visiting a wild dog den in the area. Return to camp late in the afternoon. Vundu Tented Camp is located within the park and has eight large tents (including one 2-bedroom/2-bath tent) with open-air en suite shower and toilet. The main lodge area is set in a canopy of the riverine trees on the bank of the Zambezi River. Raised 10 feet off the ground, it is the ideal place to enjoy a cocktail and watch the elephants feed on the bushes below you or the monkeys in the nearby trees. The thatched roof provides shade from the mid-day sun. From your camp you will take leisurely canoeing safaris, game drives and walks to explore and appreciate the rich floodplain and river channels of Mana Pools National Park. 8 DAY 07 MANA POOLS/ MALILANGWE-PAMUSHANA After a morning game drive, take a private charter flight to directly to Pamushana. One of Africa s best-kept secrets, Singita Pamushana Lodge is found within the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in south-eastern Zimbabwe. Nestling beneath the trees high on a ridge, the lodge incorporates the natural environment and the forest-like architecture enhances views of the pool, the lush gardens and the lake below. Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve is teeming with birds and wildlife, including rare and endangered species such as the Roan and sable antelope, and the black rhino. Famous for its cathedral Mopane forests and majestic upside-down Baobab trees, Malilangwe is an area where you will also find over 100 rock painting sites that date back more than years. Singita Pamushana Lodge comprises six luxury suites (one, two and 3 bedroom) and one villa, each offering incredible views of the Malilangwe dam. 11 Trip Reports: First of all, staying at Vundu Camp and having Nick Murray as our guide was the experience of a lifetime. Although the camp is more rustic than the others we stayed at, the overall experience could not be matched-from being 2 feet from an elephant, canoeing among the hippos, crocs and elephants with a birds-eye view of the shore birds along the Zambezi, to tracking lions on foot, finally finding the African wild dogs after 3 days of searching, etc. Nick is an encyclopedia of knowledge about the animals of Mana Pools. Peter, Nick's father-in-law, was delightful to spend time with; the food was delicious and the hospitality so very gracious. The light reflected off the Zambezi in the early mornings was beautiful...and the sunsets were the most gorgeous in the world. We cannot thank you enough!!! Kathleen Sullivan The Zimbabwe portion was equally a revelation. You were one hundred percent right in recommending the trip down the river with Nick Murray. Wow. Elephants crossing in front of our canoe, hippos popping up yards away, all kinds of birds and the occasional crocodile -- which we took a nice wide birth to avoid. Once in a lifetime and not for the faint of heart. The first day of the canoe trip we also covered 30 miles, which is apparently what they usually do in two days... so we got to experience the beautiful smaller channels between islands in the Zambezi further down the river.
