1 This information paper is to provide minimum guidelines and information of the erection of temporary fencing for the purpose of barricading, delineation of a work area, and for protection of workers from hazards. If constructed as per the following guidelines temporary fencing will met the minimum requirements AS Temporary fencing and Hoarding Temporary Fencing is to erected as manufacturers instruction, or as a minimum to the requirements listed in the Take 5 for your Erecting Fence 1. Start by placing Block 1 on the ground perpendicular (at 90 degrees) to the line the fence will take. Blocks must always run perpendicular (at 90 degrees) to the fence to ensure adequate stability. 2. Take Panel 1 and insert one leg of the panel into one of the receiving holes in Block Place Block 2 at the other end of Panel 1 and insert the panel leg into the receiving hole of Block 2. Both legs of a Panel should be in the front hole of Block 1 and Block 2 or both in the back hole of Block 1 and Block 2. Page 1

Take Panel 2 and insert one foot into the second receiving hole of Block Place Block 3 at the other end of Panel 2 and insert the panel leg into the corresponding front/back receiving hole of Block Place a temp fence clamp on the vertical pipes above the top rails of the two panels and securely fasten the nut with a 16mm spanner or socket. 7. Continue this process along the line of the fence. 8. Where panels need to be overlapped, clamp panels together, horizontal pipe to horizontal pipe, top and bottom. Page 2

3 Installation of Stay Stays are used to help stabilise the fence. 1. Position the stay for it to be attached to the end upright of the panel, with the metal plate flat on the ground and the top pipe section running parallel to the panel upright 2. Clamp the stay to the panel at a point 100mm from the top of the stay. 3. Securely fasten the nut with a 16mm spanner or socket. 4. Place another clamp on the lower vertical pipe section of the stay that runs parallel with the vertical fence panel pipe. 5. Securely fasten the nut with a 16mm spanner or socket. Page 3

4 6. Clamp the two temporary fence panels together at the bottom, just above the block where there is no wire attached to the panels vertical pipe. 7. Securely fasten the nut with a 16mm spanner or socket. 8. Install 3 blocks on the upright post of the stay. Blocks must be right side up with only plastic visible. To fit blocks on stays First you must remove the plastic from the bottom of the socket where the panel fits into the block. Place the block right side up so that the bottom of the block where the sockets finish is sitting off the ground. Insert a piece of 25mm Nb pipe approx. 400mm long into the socket and hit with a hammer or, Turn the block over and drill the plastic out with a 35mm hole saw Page 4

5 Gates Create a gate that is 2 panels wide by not installing a block in the middle of two panels. Ensure the gate swings inside the boundary of the property, not onto the road or footpath. Secure all gate panels with hinges or clamps. Install gate wheels if required. Install a return panel for the gate to swing off where a gate meets a side boundary. Pedestrian Gates Where personnel access only is required install a pedestrian gate. Install pedestrian gate as you would for a temp fence panel gate, with NO block at one end. Install one stay on each of the panels immediately adjacent to the gateway panel to stabilize the fence. Fit gate wheels if necessary Returns Where a straight fence line comes to an end install a return panel for strength. Install a return panel for the gate to swing off where the gate meets a side boundary. Page 5

6 Shade Cloth Shade Cloth is installed on the temporary fence for privacy screening and dust attenuation. Before attaching any Shade Cloth or Banner Mesh to the temporary fence, full bracing MUST be installed. Bracing for Shade Cloth Regardless of the surface, Shade cloth must only ever be installed in conjunction with stays. Stays must be installed in accordance with the guidelines in this installation instruction document. The number of stays installed should be in accordance with 1300TempFence Certification to AS available on request. Note: In addition to the requirement 1 stay must always be installed at either end of the line of fence. In addition to the regular clamp at the top, panels must be clamped together at the bottom of the panels, just above the block. Attaching Shade Cloth to Temporary Fence Ensure the fence is fully braced before attaching Shade Cloth. Secure shade cloth to the top horizontal pipe of the panel with cable ties at 800mm intervals - 3 per panel. Use fence staples to secure two horizontal lines of 4-5 staples per line/ each panel. Install one line of staples one third from the top of the panel. Install a second line of staples one third from the bottom of the panel. Do not secure the shade-cloth to the bottom of the panel unless necessary. Wire the fence to any solid objects. Page 6

7 Hand Rails In pedestrian traffic areas where the fence blocks present a tripping hazard, hand rails must be installed. Install hand rails to the panel at approximately 1.00 metre high from the ground. Clamp the vertical pipe of the hand rail to the vertical upright pipe of the panel using 2 clamps at each end. Tighten clamps with a 16mm socket. For transverse blocks (with holes running lengthways) alternate the height of each handrail to allow room for attaching to the panels. Dog Bars Dog bars prevent children or balls from going under the fence. Place the dog bar below the panel. Clamp the dog bar to the panel at 3 points. One clamp at each end and one in the middle.
