By the time you read this we will have had our 2010 Awards Dinner and be looking forward to our upcoming President s Picnic to be held at our home in Ramona on August 14 th. The details of the Picnic will be sent out via and discussed at the next Club Business Meeting. We are also looking forward to hosting another Endless Summer Event at Bob Stall Chevrolet on October 10 th, so be sure to mark your calendars. Bob Stall has offered to provide Hot Dogs and Hamburgers at the event. I personally want to thank Rick Toomey for volunteering to chair this event. Speaking of Bob Stall Chevrolet, if you are considering a new Chevrolet be sure to go to ask for Mathew Page or Javier when shopping for your new Chevrolet. Matt is the young man who attended our last meeting and while he does not own a Corvette he does love them just like the rest of us. We will be making our annual charity check presentation from the proceeds of our Plastic Fantastic Car Show to the USO at next month s business meeting. Being a military veteran of the Viet Nam Era, I can tell you I am very proud to see our Club contribute to this outstanding organization. I want to encourage each of you to go to their website ( and see all the good things they do for the men and women of our Armed Forces. While you re there please click on the Volunteer link, download, and submit your volunteer application so that you will be able to participate in activities we are planning in support of the USO and our men and women in uniform. Bob Belzman, our Charity Liaison, is working closely with the USO to schedule these volunteer activities. I also want to encourage everyone to get their entries in for Main Street America on August 8 th, hosted by COCSD. They have thrown down the gauntlet by showing up at Plastic Fantastic with 30 cars (tying them for the club participation award). Let s see if we can beat that number at Main Street. The weather was just about perfect with a cool breeze in the morning, then warming up for the noon hour. The pancake breakfast was tasty as usual and a deal for $5. The show ended around 2:00 with awards handed out including one forbob Hurst and Bob Brown. All the club members attending the show were invited over to Bob and Liz Brown s house for a backyard BBQ and chill time.

9 Submitted by Dave Regenhardt C5 Audio Upgrade 9 Here is my new system. Alpine head unit, inline 45 watt amp and component speakers. Head unit is now my bluetooth and full ipod controller. The sub is an MTX 300 watt mounted in a custom 3/4 inch mdf box driven by a Kenwood single channel 300 watt amp. I covered all areas with one to two to three layers of Fatmat sound deadening material. The center console is now dead cool and the noise reduction is amazing. I bought the pieces off ebay and online retailers and spent $ total. I drilled one hole to mount the rear tweeters. I cut no stock wires and used all existing factory holes. I could return the system back to stock in less that an hour. This would be a $ system installed at a full price retailer. I really enjoy doing this. Picking out the parts, getting the best deal and making the box. It's my art form. I love music. My mother was an opera singer and I spent my childhood around the stage. Even was on it once. I have come to the realization that I just can't leave anything alone. On this car, I won't do anything that doesn't have function, except for the wheels. That will be for fun. This sub will blow my hair from behind! love it... All new components are attached to the speaker adapters. Stock holes are used. I ran new speaker wire to avoid problems with the stock wiring. So many people have had trouble with the Bose system that it was easy to run new wire. took 5 minutes. The inline amp is the square behind the gray foam piece. The amp is bolted to the rear fiber material then self tapping screws are used to hold the rear panel in place. Super solid. This is a cover that I custom cut to fit my application. Metal to protect the sub from things in the back. The black carpet matches better in person. This cover is a cheap chine pot metal thing that I shaved 3 inches off the bottom and painted it with bed liner spray paint. Love that stuff. So forgiving!

11 Get to know a member submitted by Liz Brown Sam and Donna Rindskopf 2008 Corvette convertible, black (is there any other color?) Sam is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah; he moved to Anaheim at the age of 11 and resided there until he went into the U.S. Air Force after high school and college. Sam earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at California Polytechnic University Pomona, and a Master s of Science in Engineering from the University of Southern California. Donna is originally from Redlands, California. She moved around a bit ending up in Orange, CA. She had 2 older brothers. She is a graduate of Orange High School and attended college at Alan Hancock Community College. She comes from a family with an automotive history, her uncle raced in the Indianapolis 500, her father owned many great cars including a 1957 Thunderbird, her oldest brother Skip worked as a starter at Lions Drag Strip, and her other brother - Spike traveled the world racing motorcycles. They were married in June 1969 on Donna s birthday at the Chapel of the Reflections at Knott s Berry Farm; is that legal? They have lived in Lompoc, Vandenberg AFB, and Bloomington, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Washington D.C. (Pentagon City) prior to moving to Ramona. They have 4 daughters, 4 granddaughters, and 3 grandsons. Sam and Donna met through her brother Spike. It seems Spike was working on the pit crew of Ronnie Runyan s 1963 Blue Hell Corvette Funny Car and Sam was working on the crew of Charlie Wilson s 1960 Vicious Vette Corvette Funny Car (pictured). This was back in the mid to late 60 s when Funny Car match racing was a lucrative business and it turned out that these were the 2 quickest and fastest Corvettes in the world, so getting match race bookings in SoCal for these Corvettes was easy. Sam and Spike soon became best friends which led to Spike inviting Sam to meet his little sister, the rest as they say is history. Sam and Donna s first date was at Orange County International Raceway to watch drag racing. Sam s love for Corvette s didn t start here; it reaches all the way back to his early youth when he graduated from building model airplanes to building model cars. One of his first models was a C1 Corvette. And while Donna s love for cars focused on her prized 1950 Studebaker, Sam s love for Corvette s grew through high school and college years. However economics and family prevented the purchase of a Corvette until the kids were out of the house and safely through college. At that time Sam and Donna decided to buy a C1 or C2 Corvette. After searching for just the right car, they found a low mileage 1960 Fuel Injected Corvette on ebay and while they were the high bidder, they failed to meet the buyer s reserve. After a failed attempt to negotiate a deal with the seller, they decided to just buy a new Corvette. In mid-october of 2007 they purchased a black 2008 convertible Corvette. This was no ordinary Corvette; it had been used for driver introductions at the Sharp AQUOS 500 held at the Auto Club Speedway on September 2, This particular Corvette convertible was used to parade Jeff Gordon around the track, Donna s longtime favorite driver. As soon as she heard that the deal was done and they were on their way home to Ramona with their new Vette. Unfortunately a few days later while they were out of town helping their daughter move, their home and their brand new Corvette (less than 200 miles) burned to the ground. They also lost their 1957 Nomad, 1957 Chevy Pickup, Z28 Camaro, numerous other vehicles, and everything else they owned except the car they were in and the clothes on their back. They were not about to let this tragedy slow them down for long, days later they were back at the Chevrolet dealer buying the twin sister Corvette, the exact same car in every detail except this Corvette was used to parade Jeff Burton around the track in September 2007 at the Auto Club Speedway. They have since replaced their 1957 Nomad, and have rebuilt their home. However to this day, they both still tear up at the thought of the loss of all of their family pictures, and home movies, everything else is replaceable in some form according to Sam. As members of NCoCC they have participated in many events, the most memorable of which was the 2009 Corvette Caravan to Bowling Green, KY. The highlights of which include: the tour of the Corvette Bowling Green Assembly Plant, the tour of the National Corvette Museum, and many amazing and historic places along America s Highway Route 66. They are thankful to Bob Brown and Clarice Hurst for organizing and leading the event.

12 Get to know a member submitted by Liz Brown Jay and Sheila Kopelowitz 1963 Split Window Coupe in Saddle Tan with Saddle Tan Leather Interior The car was originally purchased from Trinity Chevrolet in Youngstown, Ohio (See attached). Total cost in 1963 was a whopping $5, As best that we can tell, some of the early owners of this Vette were Dave and Peggy Lindsay of Wanawa, Wisconsin. They took it to the Bloomington Gold event in 1991 and In 91 it received a Silver Certification scoring a 92.4 and in 93 it received a Gold Certification scoring a We acquired the car in January 2009 at the Russo & Steele Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Jay has lived in Long Island, NY, Gainesville, FL, West Palm Beach, FL and San Diego (Mission Valley, Point Loma & Carmel Valley). Sheila has lived in Bayside, NY, Oneonta, NY and San Diego (UTC, Mission Valley, Point Loma & Carmel Valley). Although we are both from New York, we met here in San Diego in Jay is an Exec. V.P. at ODM (a graphically driven clothing apparel company in Poway). Jay also a lawyer by trade and maintains a law firm, a licensing agency and several real estate investment & management companies. Sheila is a Licensing Agent for Capital Licensing Group as well as Assistant Property Manager for Via Cortina Properties in Del Mar. They have one Son Matthew (9) who is already becoming a car guy. He loves riding in the 63 Vette because it is the only car in which he does not have to sit in the back seat due to his age. Acquiring the Vette at auction was based on luck and was obviously meant to be. The car was scheduled to be auctioned at approximately 9pm in the evening. My friend and I arrived in the late afternoon and checked out all the cars (three 63 Split Windows) that we were interested in. We prioritized the three cars and decided that the unrestored Saddle Tan Fuelie was our favorite. Since we had a lot of time to kill, we decided to find the buffet dinner that was included with our bidders passes. We ended up being first on line and had a very early dinner. We had completed our dinner and were strategizing on how much to pay for the Vette we were going after when we heard the announcer say that the next car up for auction was a Saddle Tan Split Window. This was at approximately 6pm (three hours before the car was supposed to come up for auction). We immediately went to the area for bidding and became the successful bidder among three other bidders. Later we overhead several people comment that they missed a great opportunity for a split window that went up for auction hours before its appointed time because they were on the buffet line trying to get dinner. After bringing the car into California and owning it for six months, I decided that I wanted to get black plates pursuant to the YOM program to replace the standard plates that DMV gave me. I went on ebay a few times and luck struck again because I was the successful bidder on a set of un-restored, non-personalized black plates with the following number: JAY 378 This Vette is great to look at but is also driven practically every weekend. You will most frequently see it cruising Hwy 101 between Del Mar and Oceanside.

In 2006, astronomers officially defined what qualified as a planet - something they d shockingly never done before. That s when Pluto got the boot. If the astronomers hadn t adopted tight rules, three other newlydiscovered floating rocks would have also made the cut, leaving us with a ridiculous 12-planet solar system.
