2 Message from the President : My dear fellow members, 5 Star was a great success. It was so organized, fun and entertaining. It was a very hot day but with the car show being on the grass and under trees, it was easier to handle. Beautiful cars all over the park and very colorful. Seeing the steel cars and fiberglass cars together was extra special. The steel car owners judged the Corvettes and the CGCC members judged the steel cars. What more could you ask for. Jack Curtis really has the 5 Star down pat. We even had people comment of how organized it was. Volunteers came to help him and that is why it was so successful. We really were a team. Of course not everyone can help. There are various good reasons why all could not be there. Family of course always comes first, the heat is not to be reckoned with and some were out of town. But all in all, whoever could be there were. 5 Star even had former members come by to say hello. Some came from far away like Arizona and Florida and others came by to just say hello, how is it going. We may even have some new members because of the 5 Star. The city of DuPont was wonderful, they provided the big white tent. Without it the sun would have baked us all. This was a great venue. I hope the other car clubs take advantage of the 5 Star next year and join us in a green and cooler place. McNamara s provided the food. It was good food. I choose what would go well with beer. I should have noted that everyone doesn t drink beer especially in the heat. Next year we will include fruit and vegetables for the healthier participants and children. Come to think of it, Friday s wine tasting included fruit and vegetables that were fantastic and were provided by the city. Great quality. We should include that for the awards party as well. Well, I can t stop talking about 5 Star because it was great. I will see you at the September meeting. Please call Bob Thomas about volunteering to be President, VP, Treasurer, or secretary. 10 CGCC Community Service 26th Annual 5 Star Classic Car Show was a Success again this year! It is all due to the CGCC club Volunteers who gave of your time to make it such a success. They have been taking up space in my garage for around 9 years and it s time to rid myself of them. This was a $1200 option when I ordered the car. They are a 4+ out of 5 in condition and have been boxed the entire time. They will fit any C-6 except Grand Sport rear wheels. Anybody who has nicked up original wheels or wants an extra set of Tires & wheels for the drag strip or track might be interested. 12 NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM Two Racers Join Museum Performance Area With most of the cars on display at the Museum being on loan from private individuals, no two visits are the same. On your next visit to the Museum you might just catch a glimpse of two of the latest exhibit additions - a 1963 Grand Sport II Replica, and a 1969 Big Block. These two beauties were just put out on the floor, and if you are REALLY lucky you'll hear one cranked up. Wow! Until then, you can read the history on the cars and see a few video clips and pics at: Upcoming Events Holley LS Fest Two Weeks Away Holley LS Fest, slated for September 9-11, is a celebration of everything and anything powered by a GM LS engine. If an LS based (or current generation LT) engine is powering your ride, or if you are considering a swap to LS power, this is your event. Race cars, street rods, rat rods, muscle cars, trucks, late models are all welcome. Activities include drag racing classes, autocross, 3S Challenge, TrackX, Show-N-Shine and more. The TrackX will utilize the NCM Motorsports Park's east track configuration, utilizing a series of gates and chicanes with timed runs. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. New for 2016 is road course lapping on the 2-mile west course with five 20-minute sessions per day, per driver. Cars will be grouped by skill level and instructors will be on site for novice drivers. The segment will be timed and various prizes will be awarded to each run group (novice, intermediate and expert). 13 If you are one of the fortunate Corvette owners that did an R8C Museum Delivery, check out the Museum Delivery, 2016 R8C Reunion, September 29 October 1, On-line registration closes at 8:00am central time on Monday, September 19. All activities are open to Event Registrants only. Motorsports Park Motorsports Park Highlighted on Car and Driver Car and Driver recently attended the Skip Barber Racing School at the NCM Motorsports Park and has shared a nice review of their experience. The event uses the 1.97-mile, 15-turn Corvette Race Loop. You can check out his piece at: blog.caranddriver.com/skipping-work-for-skip-barber-we-getschooled-at-the-new-corvette-museum-racetrack/. As for the track itself, writer David Beard shared "This circuit offers an excellent combination of fast straights, double-apex corners, and blind off-camber turns, one of which is appropriately named Sinkhole. This section blindly falls away to the tune of 40 feet after a right-hand double-apex corner and then quickly climbs left into the esses. Be careful to mind your unloaded suspension here, or you may be sinking some money into your rental racer."
