1 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE SEPTEMBER 2010 September has got to be the busiest month of the year for me. I like Fall and I even like snow, but it seems to come pretty quickly every year. With August car shows and September Motor Magic and the Finale, it all seems to happen at one time! I know it is hard to recognize all of the winners at car shows that members go to, but there are a few that stand out in the organization: First of all, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS go out to Stan and Sharon Orness for their big win at the Kustom Kemps Show where their Mercury was selected as one only a few, to go to the Detroit Autorama in the Spring of 2011! WOW!!! Then another win that has impressed me is the one by Lon and Betty Olson who not only won the 5 th Bomb Wing Commanders trophy at the Show-N-Shine at Minot AFB last week, but also won the 91 Missile Wing Commanders trophy, too! That is a first in my books and the Olson s black 57 Chevy 4 door sedan is one beautiful car and it deserved the win! Congratulations to the Olsons. Our meeting is early this time around, being the first of Sept at the Vegas. I hope you can make it because we will be talking about the Motor Magic details and also setting up the final meeting for the Finale which will be not far behind it. We have asked members to take an hour or two to help sell tickets, clothing, or maybe even take tickets at the door. For those of you who have done it in the past, I think you all know how much fun it is make some new friends and really enjoy yourselves. Please volunteer for a two hour shift if you can. We will be nominating the Car of The Year cars at this meeting and the October meeting where at that October meeting we vote for the 2011 honorees! Be thinking of who you would vote for Nominate, nominate, nominate! Also we will be electing officers and some new Board members in the upcoming months, so be thinking of who you would like as the leadership of the Dakota Cruisers for the upcoming year(s). 2 THE KKOA LEADSLED SPECTACULAR IN SALINA, KS July 22-25, 2010 After driving through many beautiful cornfields throughout ND, SD, NE and KS, we have learned a few things--- wreckers charge a lot after hours, there is a very helpful trooper near Watertown SD, smaller repair shops are not set up to take credit cards (we had opportunity to check several!) and Wal-Marts don t always make the best overnight campsites! On to the HOT, HOT 30 th Annual KKOA Leadsled Spectacular Car Show in Salina, KS! The weather was very warm and very humid, but the car show was fabulous! Salina had 1,548 cars this year compared to 1,036 last year - an impressive growth of 500 cars! It was held at huge Oakdale Park there. We joined the Gathering of the Mercs, an area set aside for Mercurys. It was truly amazing to see so many 1949, 1950 and 1951 Mercs in one place and each one differently done! KKOA Godzilla Garage had famous customizer, Gene Winfield, with the help of the Beatniks Car Club, chopping the top on a 1954 Chevrolet. Also Backyard Boys Garage chopped a door Mercury nearby. Great to see car people like Jerry Titus, George Barris, Gene Winfield (we love the gold 1935 Ford pickup Gene originally built in 1961 for a shop truck), Chuck Miller, Darryl Starbird and Darryl Wark. Visited with some old friends, made new ones and even ran into Tony Marsh & Bonnie. We also hung out with two other couples from Norfolk, KS because they had a shade tree and were willing to share. Car people are absolutely the BEST people! The Run What ya Brung Drag Racing was also an event at Salina. The Most Spectacular Drag Champ was winner of $500 prize money! Several pin strippers were also available as well as Tiki carving and a Model Kemp Contest for the model car and truck world. Christian Rod and Custom Car Club hosted a great church service Sunday morning. We were all very fortunate to hear the personal testimony given by Paul LaMat (John Milner of American Graffiti fame). A special event for us was a Pin-Up shoot using our 1951 Mercury Desperado for the cover of Car Culture Deluxe magazine! Take a look at the photo shoot of Stan and the two pin-ups!! Think he enjoyed that??? Another big honor was an invite from Chuck Miller, who was 2010 Builder of the Year, to display our 51 Mercury ( Desperado ) at the 2011 Detroit Autorama in the Cavalcade of Customs in Cobo Hall in Detroit. Salina is a great show and one that everybody should make an effort to get to - such great customs, street rods, dragsters and roadsters. Stan & Sharon Orness

3 Minutes of Dakota Cruisers General Meeting August 4, 2010 Vegas Motel Call to order: The meeting was called to order by President George Masters at 7:30 PM. Board members present: George Masters, Jerry Black, Larry Haug, Randy Hysjulien, Ray Webb, Bob Larson, Ron Penfold, Joanne Larson and Betty Trzpuc. New members and guests were welcomed. Minutes of Last Meeting The minutes of the last meeting were approved as presented. Treasure s Report: The Treasure s report was approved as presented. Committee Reports: State Fair Collector Car Show- (Bob Larson-Dave Smith) it was a good show and concert with around 11,000 people in attendance and 200 cars displayed. Bob thanked the members that helped park the cars. The only complaint was alcoholic beverages were spilled on cars. Motor Magic- (Larry Haug-Ron Penfold) The Super Sixties will be the theme for the show. Larry asked for volunteers to sign up to help sell tickets and assist with the SIDNE go cart. For each car entered two wristbands will be given to attend the show. Cars parked outside do not qualify. Sixteen pedal cars will be auctioned with all the proceeds going to United Way. Season Finale- (Ray Webb-Randy Hysjulien) Randy reported 150 people are registered and asked members to start collecting there gifts from businesses they signed up for. Air time for TV stations is set for September 13 th. Old Business: Raffle tickets- All members are asked to sell or buy one book. See Ken or Lynn Amundson for tickets. Audit-The audit for 2007, 2008, and 2009 was completed by Rick Anderson whom is vice president of First Western Bank. In 2008 while Stacey Law was the Treasurer there was a discrepancy in the recording. We will try to resolve this when Stacey returns from overseas. Joanne was a CPA and will manage the books in the correct manner with a balance sheet as recommended by Rick. If Joanne is not re-elected, First Western Bank will take over the books. Rick was presented with a plaque and a hat for doing the audit.

4 New Business: Newsletter Profiles-people are encouraged to write up a profile on them and submit it to be published in the newsletter. Safety Inspections-are available following each general meeting. See Tom Carson or Dave Alberts. MSC Homecoming Parade-applications are available to participate in the parade on September 25 th. Newsletters-George announced that s will not be sent out to notify members that the newsletter is completed. Check the last week of each month for your newsletter. Announcements: Super Run in Brandon- George gave a synopsis of the event, stating it was a huge success with 1600 people attending and 18 blocks of cars parked on both sides of the street. Lanny s Run- Dick Sundhagen gave an overview of this cruise which also was a great event. August 24 there will be radio remote and on August 27 there will be a live remote for Motor Magic. August 25 is the next board meeting, following a cruise to Manor Care. September 1 is the next general meeting. Check website for other events. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
