5 ARCA By The Numbers is the 63rd season of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards ARCA & Television 20 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race events in 2015 ARCA signed a new, three-year contract with NewsCorp, the parent company of FOX Broadcasting Company, in early NewsCorp rebranded SPEED in September, ARCA s relationship with the FOX Sports family of networks reaches back to April 20, 1997, when Speedvision covered the ARCA Racing Series race at Salem Speedway. Cumulatively, Speedvision, Speed Channel, SPEED and FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 have telecast 218 races encompassing 18 years of covering the ARCA Racing Series. The 2015 season includes 10 live races on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. ARCA As A Sanctioning Body In addition to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, ARCA also is a sanctioning body for approximately 80 other racing events, from local tracks (Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways) to three touring series and a Demolition Derby that has been running for more than 40 years in southeast Michigan. 12 States the ARCA Racing Series will visit in Different tracks on the 2015 ARCA Racing Series schedule CBS Sports Network will broadcast races from Toledo, Winchester and Springfield in ARCA and the CBS Sports Network signed a multi-year agreement in In 2014, CBS Sports Network provided live, flag-to-flag coverage of ARCA races at Elko, Winchester and Madison. ARCA Racing Network Charles Krall (left) and Tim Clagg will return in 2015 for another season of ARCA Racing Network broadcasts. A veteran announcer, Krall serves as play-by-play announcer for several ARCA Racing Series events that are broadcast live on the arcaracing.com while Clagg has been a color commentator. The duo also team up during the racing season for a weekly show that can be heard at 2 p.m. every Thursday throughout the season. The engine will utilize a 396-cubic inch displacement steel engine block and will deliver a minimum 700 horsepower and 500 foot pounds of torque running at 7500 RPM. The engine is fuel-injected with a Holley Electronic Control Unit controlling the entire fuel injection and ignition systems. Finish Points Finish Points Finish Points Finish Points Additional points awarded ARCA IlMOR 396 FIVE STAR RACE CAR BODIES Teams competing in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will have the option of running new flange-fit, modular panel, composite material bodies at tracks one mile and less in length beginning in 2015 The showroom, stock-appearing, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and Chevrolet SS body packages, constructed with state of the art, composite laminate blend materials engineered to be lightweight and durable, and to resist deflection at high speeds. The complete body is comprised of 12 flange-fit modular panels, for ease of installation and quick replacement, and weighs less than 135 pounds. 13 Pocono to the rescue for point leader Enfinger ARCA PRESS RELEASE (JULY 14, 2015) (TOLEDO, Ohio - July 14, 2015) - Grant Enfinger took the series by storm at the onset of the 2105 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, winning the first three races at Daytona, Mobile and Nashville. In doing so, the Fairhope, Alabama driver became the first driver in series history - 63 years and counting - to win the first three races of the season in back-toback years, having done the same in 14. Then, with a runaway point lead, the bottom fell out of the tub when he was involved in wrecks in the next three events at Salem, Talladega and Toledo. Fortunately for Enfinger, Pocono Raceway came up on the calendar in the nick of time, and saved the day. Enfinger, back in early June, got back on track with a solid second place finish on the Tricky Triangle. I feel like Pocono is where we turned it around, Enfinger said. From that point forward, our luck began to change. I absolute love that place... finishing second helped, but I loved it before that. Indeed you can talk to drivers until the end of time, but you ll be hardpressed to find anyone who isn t fascinated with the high-speed, triangular superspeedway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Pocono is so far from anything else we do all year. It s so different with its own unique set of challenges. Each corner makes you feel like you re on a different track. It feels like an intermediate track at some points and then others, it feels like a short track. And it s got a road course mentality. Put that all together and it makes for a very interesting lap. It s really the best of all worlds all wrapped up in a triangle. The road course mentality comes from the fact that each turn at Pocono has a different arc and radius, each corner connected by straightaways of different lengths. Despite the unique characteristics that belong to Pocono, there s much more to the facility. It s not just the track itself that s so neat; the whole Pocono experience is really cool. The place is so clean and well kept and the staff there treats us so well. They re always really glad to have us there, and that s why everyone enjoys it. Feeling so welcome there...those are the things that make people want to keep coming back for more. But of course, after all the welcoming, PR and handshaking, each driver still has to deal with the Tricky Triangle. And being that each corner at Pocono is way different than the other, it s been said, in terms of setting up a car, that it s best to compromise. There is a compromise there that I think works best. And if you gain here, you re going to lose some there...that s just the way it is. And once you accept that, you start to get over it...get past it. I ve never been really great in every turn there. Maybe other drivers have, but I haven t had that experience. Talking to other drivers, I ve always heard pretty-much the same thing...that you just can t be 100% everywhere around there. And I think that s true...i know it is for me. The thing to remember is that you don t have to be 100% in each corner...you just have to be better than everyone else. I try to not get hung up with perfection there...it ll drive you crazy trying to figure it out. Enfinger also says the infamous Tunnel Turn is tempting to run wide open, but offers a cautionary note. The Tunnel Turn probably fits the Tricky Triangle description the best. It s so tempting to flat-foot it through there. I ve been close, and I ve had other drivers tell me they have, but I ve never been able to do it. I ve been close but I ve always had to breathe it. It s really more of a 90-degree arc...kind of like a quick road course left-hander. But you re already carrying so much speed through there. The big thing is to just be really smooth through there without losing all your momentum. Like I say, I ve been close to running wide open through there, and I ve almost wrecked a couple times through there too. The first ARCA race of the season at Pocono is traditionally a 200-mile event, whereas the second is trimmed to the 125 mile-marker. The race distance thing doesn t change the way we set up or build our cars. The only difference is how we would call the race. You may have to change up your strategy on how you approach the shorter race. For one thing, you re talking about a two-stop race in the 200-miler as opposed to one stop in the 125. The track, especially in the Tunnel Turn, is getting a little bumpier too, so tires, I think, come in to play more. You may just give the car a splash of gas and go, but you ll also think about changing tires, but that takes longer...and you can t get caught in the back in the shorter race near the end. Track positioning there is too critical. In any race, you can start with what could be considered a great strategy, but the team that usually wins is usually the one that adapts best to the ongoing changes throughout the race, whether it s a changing track because of changing weather...temperature, heat, or it could be the amount of cautions you get. 14 RECORD BOOK POINTS 2015 SEASON DRIVERS RACE FACTS SERIES INFO 14 Weatherman ready for first superspeedway race of season ARCA PRESS RELEASE July 21, 2015 (TOLEDO, Ohio - July 21, 2015) - Weatherman has been impressive for several reasons winning at New Jersey Motorsports Park in his career-first road course attempt ranks right up there. In eight starts this year, he s only finished outside the top-five one time (7th at LOR), and his 2015 stat sheet includes two runner-up runs at Salem Speedway and recently at Iowa Speedway where he led right down to the last lap. If that s not enough, he s earned three Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell at Nashville, Iowa and Lucas Oil Raceway, and currently leads the Calypso Lemonades Short Track Challenge standings. That said, it s probably safe to say that many eyes will zero-in on Weatherman when the 17-year-old driver makes his Pocono Raceway debut in the ModSpace ARCA 125 Saturday, August 1. I m looking forward to it; that s for sure, Weatherman said. I ve got a few laps around there so I feel like I m ahead of it that much. Indeed Weatherman tested at Pocono in early June, shaking down a car for Trevor Bayne, who was also new to the unique triangular layout. Unfortunately, Weatherman shook the car too hard and crashed in the Tunnel Turn. That was a very tough time for me...i really struggled with that one. But, I also learned from my mistake. I know what I did wrong...we ll leave it at that. There was more good news to come from the mishap. The Cunningham Motorsports crew, led by NASCAR champion crew chief Paul Andrews, unloaded a back-up car that Bayne drove to Victory Lane two days later. It will be in that same car that Weatherman will be aboard for Pocono. It s one of the harder racetracks that I ve ever raced on. I thought I adapted pretty quick, but I think it s difficult in general. It lives up to its name...the Tricky Triangle. All three corners are different, which I find very unique. I ve heard people talk about parts of the track that have sort of a short track feel. I don t get that feeling...it s all superspeedway to me. It s a hard place to get around. Turn one has some banking and the Tunnel Turn is a flat, short corner, but really fast. The Tunnel Turn is more of an exercise in depth perception, more than anything. Then the last corner is long and flat. Getting your racecar to handle at Pocono is so important because you re dealing with so many variables. We know the team can get the job done...we know the car can get it done...i just need to figure out my part. I ll keep talking to as many drivers as I can. I run stuff through Chris Buescher all the time. I know he ran well there...i ll see what he s got...get his thoughts. The ModSpace 125 marks the 61st ARCA race on the Pocono triangle since The list of winners over the years is impressive. 15 (TOLEDO, Ohio) Kyle Weatherman had a good night Friday at Lucas Oil Raceway, earning his third Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell, leading the first 50 laps and finishing seventh in the race. He also padded his point lead in the Calypso Lemonades Short Track Challenge to 20 points over second place Austin Wayne Self. I love it, Weatherman said. It gives a 17-year-old like me something to shoot for. I come here to win the race no matter what, but you have other motivation to do well, too. I really enjoy it. I think it s a great idea they came up with this year. The Calypso Lemonades Short Track Challenge adds another exciting element to the overall national championship and opens new doors for competitors who do not run the full racing schedule.
