5 ARCA By The Numbers is the 63rd season of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards ARCA & Television 20 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race events in 2015 ARCA signed a new, three-year contract with NewsCorp, the parent company of FOX Broadcasting Company, in early NewsCorp rebranded SPEED in September, ARCA s relationship with the FOX Sports family of networks reaches back to April 20, 1997, when Speedvision covered the ARCA Racing Series race at Salem Speedway. Cumulatively, Speedvision, Speed Channel, SPEED and FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 have telecast 218 races encompassing 18 years of covering the ARCA Racing Series. The 2015 season includes 10 live races on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. ARCA As A Sanctioning Body In addition to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, ARCA also is a sanctioning body for approximately 80 other racing events, from local tracks (Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways) to three touring series and a Demolition Derby that has been running for more than 40 years in southeast Michigan. 12 States the ARCA Racing Series will visit in Different tracks on the 2015 ARCA Racing Series schedule CBS Sports Network will broadcast races from Toledo, Winchester and Springfield in ARCA and the CBS Sports Network signed a multi-year agreement in In 2014, CBS Sports Network provided live, flag-to-flag coverage of ARCA races at Elko, Winchester and Madison. ARCA Racing Network Charles Krall (left) and Tim Clagg will return in 2015 for another season of ARCA Racing Network broadcasts. A veteran announcer, Krall serves as play-by-play announcer for several ARCA Racing Series events that are broadcast live on the arcaracing.com while Clagg has been a color commentator. The duo also team up during the racing season for a weekly show that can be heard at 2 p.m. every Thursday throughout the season. 6 RECORD BOOK POINTS 2015 SEASON DRIVERS RACE FACTS SERIES INFO 6 What s New in 2015 Race Points Scoring points awarded upon pre-entering and competing 5 points awarded to polewinner The ARCA Ilmor 396 is a progressive and innovative engine package option beginning in The purpose-built engine was developed and assembled by Ilmor Engineering. The engine will utilize a 396-cubic inch displacement steel engine block and will deliver a minimum 700 horsepower and 500 foot pounds of torque running at 7500 RPM. The engine is fuel-injected with a Holley Electronic Control Unit controlling the entire fuel injection and ignition systems. Finish Points Finish Points Finish Points Finish Points Additional points awarded ARCA IlMOR 396 FIVE STAR RACE CAR BODIES Teams competing in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will have the option of running new flange-fit, modular panel, composite material bodies at tracks one mile and less in length beginning in 2015 The showroom, stock-appearing, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and Chevrolet SS body packages, constructed with state of the art, composite laminate blend materials engineered to be lightweight and durable, and to resist deflection at high speeds. The complete body is comprised of 12 flange-fit modular panels, for ease of installation and quick replacement, and weighs less than 135 pounds. 13 Awards up for grabs as ARCA heads to Kansas ARCA PRESS RELEASE (OCTOBER 6, 2015) TOLEDO, Ohio October 6, 2015) It s no secret that Fairhope, Alabama s Grant Enfinger will officially sew up the 2015 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards national championship just by rolling off the grid in the season finale Full Throttle S loonshine 98.9 at Kansas Speedway. However, if Enfinger wants to shore up the Car Owner Championship for Maury Gallagher, he s going to have to race for it. Gallagher, car owner of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet that Enfinger drives, has a 55-point lead over the second-place car (No. 22/Cunningham Motorsports) owned by Kerry Scherer. Car owner Cathy Venturini - the Venturini Motorsports 25 car - is third in points, 215 from first. Each position on track is worth five points. The last time the champion driver and champion car owner were from different teams was 1995 when Andy Hillenburg earned the driving title while Jack Bowsher, with his son Bobby Bowsher driving, won the car owner championship. SCOTT Rookie of the Year The race for SCOTT Rookie of the Year is even closer with Kyle Weatherman (Cunningham Motorsports) out in front of David Levine (Lira Motorsports) by just two points. Despite Weatherman s slim lead, and as per the point structure, the Wentzville, Missouri driver is very much in the driver s seat for the SCOTT Rookie points title. SCOTT Rookie points utilize the best 15 finishes from the 20-race season. That said, if Weatherman is at least the 11th highest finishing rookie at Kansas, or better, he will clinch the points battle. The SCOTT Rookie of the Year award becomes official only at the yearend championship awards ceremony by which the leading rookie contender must adhere to ARCA s SCOTT Rookie code of conduct which states that the driver must exhibit the appropriate example of demeanor, conduct, character and code of ethics that best represent the series. Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge ARCA s Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge championship, which awards the car owner whose driver earns the most points over the superspeedway portion of the schedule (Daytona, Talladega, Pocono (2), Michigan, Chicagoland, Kentucky and Kansas), will also come down to the wire at Kansas. Currently, Dan Kurzejewski and driver Matt Kurzejewski, hold a 35-point lead over Maury Gallagher and Grant Enfinger for the superspeedway championship. Former Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge champions include Davey Allison, Bill Venturini, Bob Keselowski, Bob Strait, Jeff Purvis, Tim Steele, Bobby Gerhart and Chris Buescher. Ten-time series champion Frank Kimmel won the award for the sixth time in Mason Mitchell won the Hoosier Superspeedway Challenge in 2014, on his way to the overall series championship. Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell The year-end Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell is tied headed to Kansas between Enfinger and Weatherman, each with three on the season. In the event of a tie-breaker, the $10,000 year-end award would go to Enfinger. Driver Points Inside Top-10 Driver positions second through fourth are also close headed to Kansas. Currently, 115 points separate second-place driver Josh Williams from fourth-place driver Tom Hessert. Austin Wayne Self, leading the S&S Volvo Laps Completed award, is sandwiched in between in third in overall driver points. Seventh-place driver Sarah Cornett-Ching trails sixth-place driver Bo LeMastus by just 60 points. Other honors In other awards, Weatherman has already clinched the Calypso Lemonades Short Track Challenge title, which is an accumulation of points from all of ARCA s short tracks in any given year. Weatherman also helped his Cunningham Motorsports team procure the Bill France Four Crown championship, a championship within a championship representing ARCA s diversity. This year s Bill France Four Crown schedule included Talladega Superspeedway, the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course, the Winchester Speedway short track and the Springfield mile dirt. 14 RECORD BOOK POINTS 2015 SEASON DRIVERS RACE FACTS SERIES INFO 14 Kurzejewski leads Hoosier Superspeedway Challege ARCA PRESS RELEASE October 12, 2015 (MOORESVILLE, North Carolina -- October 12, 2015) As competitive as Matt Kurzejewski has been in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards this season, you ll have to forgive if he was a bit miffed following the Sept. 26 Crosley Brands 150 at Kentucky Speedway. Despite running a limited ARCA Racing Series schedule this season, the driver of the No. 54 Costy s Energy Services Chevrolet hasn t lacked the speed that propelled him into the spotlight and contending for race wins. That was until he arrived at Kentucky Speedway. Kurzejewski s week already started on the wrong note when the tractor carrying his car and equipment caught fire en-route to the 1.5-mile speedway. The incident forced Kurzejewski and his Brian Keselowski led team to miss a crucial open test at the track ahead of the penultimate race of the year. Nearly 16 hours later, Kurzejewski s hauler showed up in Sparta, but with the open practice session having just ended, crucial track time was lost and irreplaceable. All things considered, Kurzejewski made best of his Kentucky Speedway debut. Qualifying 14th, he patiently worked his way through the field to finish ninth and score seventh top-10 finish of the season. But even during debriefing, Kurzejewski still seemed puzzled of the team s run. The answer to the team s perplexing situation came into light a few days later during the open-test session at Kansas Speedway. The Kansas Speedway test started off just like the past week and a half had gone, said Kurzejewski. Misfortune led to mechanical issues and ultimate failure with our primary engine. We had stumbled upon some issues that led to our poor performance at Kentucky, which is in a way now a blessing. Had we tested at Kentucky, we would have been able to detect our situation sooner. As testing continued at Kansas Speedway, the intensity level simmered as the speed the team had been accustomed to returned once swapping engines. The bad news? The lack of track time for the No. 54 Costy s Energy Services Chevrolet ahead of next Friday s Full Throttle S loonshine After changing engines at Kansas, we had finally found our speed that seemed to have disappeared which finally felt like a step in the right direction, that was positive, said Kurzejewski. Unfortunately, the engine swap and mechanical issues consumed a majority of our day leaving us little time to complete testing in Kansas on Wednesday afternoon. We are still a bit behind the eight ball compared to where we would like to be but after all it is a step in the right direction and hopefully things have turned around. Things couldn t have possibly turned around at a better time for Kurzejewski and his family-owned team. Currently, the 24-year-old leads the ARCA s Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge championship, which awards the car owner whose driver earns the most points over the superspeedway portion of the schedule (Daytona, Talladega, Pocono (2), Michigan, Chicagoland, Kentucky and Kansas) over the No. 23 team owned by Maury Gallagher and driven by Grant Enfinger by 35 points for the superspeedway title. Another top-10 finish would likely assure Kurzejewski the title. I am very excited to head back to Kansas and race, Kurzejewski said. The track definitely seems to be a fun and fast track to drive. Our car for this event will be based around a pink paint scheme for Breast Cancer awareness. We re going to win. In more ways than one. Kurzejewski, 24, has 13 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts to his credit. During his four-year engagement in the series, he has posted three top-fives and ninth top-10 finishes, including a career-best third at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in August. He has completed 1,197 laps on the tour and led 117 of them. The Full Throttle S loonshine 98.9 (99 Laps / 149 Miles) is the 20th of 20 races on the 2015 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. 15 Weatherman fastest in September Kansas Test session ARCA PRESS RELEASE SEPT. 30, 2015 (KANSAS CITY, Kan. - September 30, 2015) - It would have been a Cunningham Motorsports clean sweep at the top of the leader board Wednesday at Kansas Speedway, if not for Matt Kurzejewski, who stepped it up a notch in the final moments of ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards open testing. Kurzejewski, the leading Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge championship contender, stepped in between Cunningham Motorsports teammates Kyle Weatherman and newcomer Sheldon Creed to secure the second fastest speed overall in preparation for the series season finale at Kansas - the Full Throttle S loonshine 98.9 coming Friday, October 16. Despite Kurzejewski s final push up the leader board, Weatherman also put out some late afternoon dazzle in the No. 22 Crosley Brands Dodge, turning the fastest lap of the day with a time of seconds, an average speed of mph. That was actually a race run too, Weatherman said. We never mocked up. The car s really fast. We should be in good shape when we come back. It was Weatherman s first time turning laps on the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway. Main thing is that I got comfortable, or more comfortable throughout the day I should say...track is phenomenal... really, really smooth with tons of grip. I don t want to get too over the top, but I think there s more speed in it. We got most of the speed out of it today, but I think there might be a few 10ths we left out there. Weatherman, 18, recently sewed up the Calypso Lemonades Short Track Challenge championship and moved into the lead in the SCOTT Rookie of the Year standings following last Saturday s race at Kentucky. His car owner Kerry Scherer is still in it for the owner championship with just one race remaining. I ve got high expectations when we come back. Honestly, a top-five would be great, run all the laps and learn. Sure like to give Kerry Scherer that car owner championship... that s really important to me. I just want to thank Kerry and Briggs Cunningham for all their support this year...it s been an amazing ride. I can t thank them enough for what they ve done for me. By the end of the ARCA finale at Kansas, Weatherman will have competed in 15 races. If he finishes as the 11th highest finishing rookie - or better - Levine cannot overtake him in the points portion of the Rookie of the Year selection.
