1 Chris Christie, Governor Kim Guadagno, Lt. Governor Carole Hedinger, Executive Director Benefits Education and Institutions Photos and Video Available FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Judith L. Drucker, Public Relations Manager Phone: (609) New Jersey Lottery Instant Game Players Claimed More Than $8.79 Million in Top-tier Prizes in January TRENTON, NJ (February 20, 2014) New Jersey Lottery instant game players scratched and claimed top-tier prizes valued at more than $8.79 million during January. There were 121 claims for the month including two $100,000,000 Spectacular $1,000,000 claims, one Diamond Spectacular $1,000,000 claim and two Merry Millionaire $1,000,000 claims. There was one $1,000 a Week for Life ticket claimed and one $500 a Week for Life ticket claimed. Our $500 A Week for Life ticket winner is working towards excellent health and perhaps others may want to follow his lead. Our winner, Daniel, needed something to do with his hands after quitting smoking. He decided to take up scratching lottery tickets with the savings he achieved from kicking the smoking habit. With a pocket full of extra cash he began buying $1 tickets from the instant ticket machine at Quick Chek, 357 Broad St., Bloomfield in Essex County. Daniel, 31 years old, now has many more reasons to keep healthy because he won the $500 a Week for Life instant game! He and his girlfriend are thrilled about the win. 1 Jamie and Daniel The 20X Cash game, launched on September 9, 2013, brought the greatest number of winners this month with 21 claims of $20,000 each. Two of those wins were by the same person and sold at the same store on two consecutive Sundays. A press conference, attended by Carole Hedinger, Executive Director of the Lottery, and Mike Ducker, the lucky winner, was held at the retailer, Singin Oil, 300 Hurley Avenue in Lakewood. Following the press conference, a promotional event excited players with 1 2 Mike Ducker, two time winner of 20X Cash game

2 free ticket and Lottery promotional item giveaways. Event photos and video are available at the NJLottery.net website and on its You Tube Channel by following the links provided above. The 10X Cash 3 rd edition followed its big brother with the greatest number of winning tickets sold with 12 claimed tickets of $10,000 each during the month. Winning tickets were sold in 12 different counties. The ever-popular Crossword tied with the Big Money Spectacular and Classic Bingo games with eight winner claims this month. Classic Bingo paid $10,000, Crossword paid $20,000, and Big Money Spectacular paid $30,000 to each of the winning ticketholders. Each time a player wins, so does the ticket-selling retailer. Retailers earn a 2.5 percent bonus on each top-tier prize-winning instant ticket they sell. In addition, when a retailer cashes a winning instant game or online game ticket (valued at $599 or below), regardless of whether they sold it, they receive a 1.25 percent cashing commission. This is in addition to the 5 percent commission on all the lottery tickets they sell. In January, the top-tier ticket selling retailers earned nearly than $188,000 in commissions. New Jersey residents benefit from Lottery funds generated by ticket sales. Lottery revenue supports educational programs, grants and institutions across the State. Since its inception in 1970, the New Jersey Lottery (NJLottery.net) has contributed more than $22 billion to the State in support of education and institutions. In fiscal year 2013 the Lottery s contribution was more than $1 billion. Among its beneficiaries are: veterans homes, community and other colleges and universities, school nutrition programs, homes for the developmentally disabled, psychiatric hospitals, higher education scholarship programs and the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf. The lottery also plays a key role in supporting small businesses throughout the state with approximately 6,800 Lottery retailers. In fiscal year 2013, the Lottery retailers earned more than $157 million in commissions supporting convenience stores and other establishments throughout the state. Every day, the Lottery helps to make winners by: providing entertainment and winning jackpots for lottery players, supporting the business community that serves as Lottery retailers and generating financial support for vital programs and organizations in our State. The chart on the following page lists all of the games that paid out top-tier prizes in January and the lucky retailers who sold them. -MORE- 2
