Bronze medals to snowboarder Alex Fitch and ice hockey player Sharnita Crompton were Australia s outstanding performances, backed up by an additional six top-10 fi nishes across fi ve disciplines.

From Perth, Melbourne, the Snowy Mountains, Sydney, the NSW Central Coast, Brisbane and Townsville our 15-17 year olds did Australia proud.

In her fi rst role as Chef de Mission of an Australian Team, Alisa Camplin was thrilled with what the Team achieved.

The same can be said for the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team. Bronze medals to snowboarder Alex Fitch and ice hockey player Sharnita Crompton were Australia s outstanding performances, backed up by an additional six top-10 fi nishes across fi ve disciplines. All 13 athletes represented our country with distinction and gave their all against the world s best. From Perth, Melbourne, the Snowy Mountains, Sydney, the NSW Central Coast, Brisbane and Townsville our year olds did Australia proud. It s not easy to compete against opponents who ski to school or have huge mountains on their doorstep yet our Australian athletes did just that. In her fi rst role as Chef de Mission of an Australian Team, Alisa Camplin was thrilled with what the Team achieved. Alex Fitch, 16 and Sharnita Crompton, 17 - bronze medallists at the Winter Youth Olympics. We worked so hard before and during the Youth Olympics to ensure these athletes had all the tools and support they needed to achieve a best performance and we succeeded, Camplin, a dual Olympic aerial skiing medallist said. The athletes always came fi rst in every decision we made. We had younger coaches and support staff from the national federations and the Australian Olympic Committee who brought huge energy and an impressive level of professionalism to the team. Hearing our athletes comment on the quality of our Team culture really made me smile. Our focus on excellence, learning and growing was the perfect complement to their deep desire to succeed and obvious passion for their sport and country. Camplin had many highlights and positives for her Team but two really stood out. Watching some of our athletes who didn t have pre-competition or pre-performance plans, learn to formulate and then execute one was very exciting, Camplin said. I also observed athlete/coach relationships that are already world class and their path to senior success is mapped out. I look forward to seeing some of these athletes at Sochi in 2014 and many in PyeongChang in Alex Fitch then represented the Australian Team in the Closing Ceremony as fl agbearer to top off a wonderful 10 days where she also fi nished fourth in the halfpipe. NEWS FROM ACT The ACT Olympian s Club is looking forward to supporting numerous functions and activities leading into London 2012, including fundraising events organised by the ACT Olympic Council.

As always, ACT Olympians will make themselves available to promote Olympic activities in the ACT, including attendance at Pierre de Coubertin activities.

Our State s leading business and community leaders have once again rallied together to form Fundraising Committees and roll out a series of events in support of the Team.

NEWS FROM NSW The NSW Olympic Council is now charging full steam ahead arranging Appeal events to support our London bound Team. Our State s leading business and community leaders have once again rallied together to form Fundraising Committees and roll out a series of events in support of the Team. The Illawarra Team Appeal Dinner will take place on 13 March 2012 followed by the Hunter Appeal Dinner on 30 March ahead of the major Athlete Farewell dinner in Sydney on 16 May. The dinners aim to raise funds for the Team and provide inspiration for our London bound athletes in the fi nal months ahead of the Games. Information at NEWS FROM QLD Since the last newsletter the QOC and Queensland Olympians have been very active in the community. The Queensland State Government recently held their annual sports participation initiative Super Sports Day, in 13 locations throughout the State. Over 50 Olympians put up their hand to assist the Department with the Day and attend different locations to talk to young children about the benefi ts of sports, active healthy lifestyles and the benefi ts of being a part of local sporting clubs. In February our Olympians went bush with an Olympic Tour to Moranbah situated 3 hours south west of Mackay, the mining town has a population of around 8,000 people with 3 local schools. The community really got behind the Olympic spirit with a Black Tie Olympic Dinner being held on the Thursday night with swimming legend Duncan Armstrong as the guest speaker. Over $15,000 was raised from the evening in support of our 2012 Australian Olympic Team. On the Friday synchronised swimmers Eloise Amberger and Sarah Bombell joined us to undertake some school visits and then put on a demonstration as part of the offi cial opening of the new aquatic centre. Over 500 of the community turned out at the opening to enjoy the new facility, chat to the girls and see the great display. Amberger and Bombell put on a display as part of the new Moranbah Aquatic Centre opening. The Olympians Club of SA have already planned much of this years Annual Dinner to be held at the Glenelg Golf Club on Saturday May 26th, With an extended invitation to Commonwealth and Paralympic athletes we are confi dent that in this Olympic year attendance will be high. SA Olympic Council AGM The SA Olympic Council will be holding the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 27th March, 2012, at Santos Stadium, Railway Terrace Mile End. School Visits Being an Olympic year the SA Olympic Council offi ce has had a number of requests from both Primary and Secondary schools to host an Olympian to speak to their students either during assembly or to individual classes. If you are able to assist us by attending a school visit and talking to students about your Olympic journey please contact Kirsty. NEWS FROM TAS The Tasmanian Olympic Council held an Olympic Activity Day for 41 Gold member companies in late November The day was at Redbanks, a beautiful properity in Southern Tasmaniaand offered activites comprised of individual and team competitions in seven Olympic sports as well as three others. They included archery, air rifl e, 22 rifl e, clay target, javelin, shot put, basketball, sling shot, soccer and aqua golf. We had rowing Olympians attend and speak to the companies about building teams in sport; Anthony Edwards, Sam Belts, Todd Skipworth and Ben Cureton. The Tasmanian Olympic Council raised some money with a raffl e with fantastic prizes - a 2004 Australian Olympic Jodie Henry 100m freestyle photo memorabilia and a donated hamper. NEWS FROM VIC Looking for Olympians from the City of Glen Eira The Glen Eira City Council is looking to honour all Olympians from the City of Glen Eira at the soon to be built Duncan Mackinnon sports pavilion. Olympians names will be displayed in the avenue of honour. The BBQ will be held at Burswood Park near the Olympians and Paralympians Walkway. This is a great event to come along to with your family, mix with fellow Olympians, throw some food on the BBQ and enjoy the sunshine. Invites for this event have been distributed and RSVPs are being coordinated by Western Australian Olympic Council offi ce OCWA Christmas Luncheon Following on from the success of the 2011 lunch, the OCWA Executive is again looking at holding this on the last Sunday in November (25th) - so pencil it in your diaries. We are looking at venues but if you have any suggestions or feedback we would love to hear it! OCWA Outstanding Contribution Award The OCWA will be introducing an award to recognise outstanding contributions to Olympic sports in Western Australia. This award has been initiated by the OCWA to value and provide recognition to those individuals who contribute to the fabric of the Olympic movement and sporting community in Western Australia. Criteria for this award include level of contribution, longevity of service, impact to sport, demonstration of excellence, attitude and peer feedback. Nomination forms will be available mid 2012.

Bousou is a four-time olympian (1980, 1984, 1988, 1992) in modern pentathlon and was world champion in He is French but lives in Monaco and is an advisor to Prince Albert, who is a member of the IOC. Joel takes over from Dick Fosbury (USA), however Fosbury remains on the Executive. Most inspirational athlete When I played it was Colin Batch because he led by example didn t speak a lot but he didn t need to - I guess his vice captain (me) made up for that. Coach juniors and play vets at my club Camberwell. I love it more than ever and feel very passionate about the wonderful things sport brings to your life. See them irregularly at hockey events and more so with kids playing and of course the annual Olympic dinner is a great way to catch up with all those lifetime friends you make in other sports. Lucky enough to be going with Channel Nine to call the hockey boys to another gold medal. If I could fi nd them I might actually I d like to because I could pretend to be a tram conductor with the memorable green one from Barcelona as for the one from Seoul the sunfl ower yellow wasn t bad but it didn t go too well with the prue acton technicolor fl oral number. Jay Stacy , 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games What is your Olympic highlight? Reaching the fi nal in 1992 and getting a silver medal. You can t win silver! What is your favourite memory of the Olympic Games? Bronze medal match in Atlanta coming from behind to beat Germany 3-2 and the Closing ceremony in Barcelona, it was my birthday too! Most inspirational athlete? Merlene Ottey for her longevity in a very demanding sport like sprinting & Edwin Moses for his domination of an event. I am currently Head Coach of Men s Hockey at the Victorian Institute of Sport and Coach Victoria in the AHL. Yes. I get around the country a bit so I always make time to catch up with teammates. Probably not at this point. I am lucky enough to have 4 of them but sadly most do not fi t. I could perhaps squeeze into the one from Sydney. Ash Carey Olympic Games. What is your Olympic highlight? Winning the silver medal in Barcelona What is your favourite memory of the Olympic Games? There are obviously many like walking in the Opening Ceremony and competing but I think at the end of games realising that you actually had been experiencing the reward for all the years of sacrifi ce and hard work Most inspirational athlete In 1992 it was Kieren Perkins as I was lucky enough to be pool side amongst the Australian swimmers as he won his 1500 gold which was a great inspiration during the games Hockey Victoria Board Member, Junior coach and a very slow and part time Offsiders Hockey Player and summer veterans participant Unfortunately no but remain very good friends with David Wansbrough and Jay Stacy.
