Only USSA card holding competitors and competitors who are in good standing with applicable governing bodies are eligible for the overall US Cup Standings. - o Competitors can purchase a one-day membership from USSA Competitors must be paying USA Nordic members to be eligible for overall rankings, and at a minimum an unpaid USA Nordic member to compete. Entry Fee: - $40 per event/athlete **The fee is applicable to all participants not currently members of the U.S. National A and B teams (Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined). - Organizers: There will be no organizers fee paid to USA Nordic. - There are nine total events in the 2017/2018 US Cup series. Hill Size: Hill Size (HS) ranges from M: Hill Size Location US Cup HS 70 Salisbury, CT SJ HS 77 Chicago, IL SJ HS 80 Minneapolis, MN SJ HS 94 Eau Claire, WI SJ, NC HS 96 Ishpeming, MI SJ, NC HS 96 Brattleboro, VT SJ, NC HS 100 Steamboat Springs, CO SJ, NC HS 114 Westby, WI SJ HS 135 Lake Placid, NY SJ, NC? US Cup - 3
4 Officials: Per USSA rules for National Calendar Events. ( Classes: US Cup Class o The US Cup class will now be a U20 class. o Can still have Senior and Masters classes if organizers would like. o Prize money is required for US Cup class only. - - Men s and Women s US Cup class Men s and Women s NC Class (where applicable) o Only athletes with USSA and USA Nordic active memberships will be counted in the overall US Cup standings. Foreign athletes will not be included in US Cup standings and will not be eligible for US Cup prize money? They are eligible for Senior class money if organizers pay the Senior class. Competition Format: The top three junior Ski Jumping athletes, men and women, and NC men will get a spot on the Junior National Team (must be within 85% of overall winner). Overall US Cup winner is decided from best 5 finishes out of 9 competitions (if less than 5 Nordic Combined it will be determined by the total number) An athlete must compete in at least three out of the five divisions (assuming US Cup competitions are held in three divisions): RMD, IMD, Alaska, Central, East, to be eligible to win the US Cup. o For men, additional athlete spots in domestic Continental (2-3) and FIS Cups (20) will be determined using current US Cup Ranking List. The qualified quota spots will be decided by the National Team coaches for each event. New this year: o US Cup Class is a U20 Class. o Athletes must compete in three divisions to qualify to be the overall winner and qualify for the Junior National Team. o The top three Junior Ski Jumping athletes, both men and women, will get a spot on the Junior National Team (see criteria). o Scoring below Scoring: Points are awarded based on the size of the field. The winner will receive twice the points of the total number of athletes in each class with a minimum of 10 points. Points will be awarded up to 15 th place. See point spread below. US Cup - 4
5 Place Points Place Points 1st 30 9th 14 2nd 28 10th 12 3rd 26 11th 10 4th 24 12th 8 5th 22 13th 6 6th 20 14th 4 7th 18 15th 2 8th 16 *Note: If there is a tie in the US Cup points then total Ski Jumping competition points will be used to break the tie. Prizes & Awards: Medals Cash Awards Item Level of Requirement - Medals for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place for each event by individual clubs/venues for top 3 finishers. - Prizes for men s overall winner in the 9 stop series will be awarded by USA Nordic for both SJ & NC Payouts below require a minimum of 10 athletes. For classes less than 10, payout will be 1/2 and for classes less than 5, 1/3 of amounts below. Required payout for top 3 finishers in all US Cup classes: 1 st - $300 2 nd - $150 3 rd - $75 Overall Series Standings A similar payout is suggested for the Senior classes. Rankings will be updated after each event. The overall US Cup class winner for Ski Jumping, men and women, and for men's NC will be awarded $500 towards a European Continental Cup/FIS Cup or Summer Grand Prix trip and will be guaranteed a start in the competition. This trip will be decided by National Team Coaches. The top three junior Ski Jumping athletes, men and women, and NC men will get a spot on the Junior National Team. An athlete must be within 85% of the overall winner, using total jumping points in the best five results for SJ and overall points using the Scoring system for NC. US Cup - 5
6 Accommodations: Event organizers will provide housing and meals for the competition day as well as the two days preceding the competition day for USA Nordic A and B Team athletes. Organizers are encouraged to help other US Cup athletes. Facilities & Control: Per USSA requirements Control Equipment Internet Connectivity Take-off Speed Timing Start Time Control Video Marking Wind Speed Cross Country Course Marshalls Cross Country Timing Cross Country Finish Line Video Level of Requirement Per USSA requirements 2 phase or better encouraged (3-5 suggested) Required (hand timing acceptable, backups strongly encouraged); (3-5 suggested) Required (may be smart phone) Cancelation Policy: In the case of 2-day events, each event organizer must dedicate which day is for US Cup standings. The US Cup Committees preference is to schedule this on the first day of competition. In situations when the event cannot be held on day one, it may be held on day two. In the event of complete event cancelation, registration fees will be refunded to the athletes. Marketing & Sponsors: USA Nordic has partnered with Sports Insurance as the Title Sponsor, but will work in collaboration with the event organizer(s) to avoid conflicts. A US Cup logoed banner will be provided at each site for placement in the outrun. LiveStream: Live Stream is the web-based system USA Nordic Sport uses to broadcast ski jumping events live on the internet. Currently, a viewer is required to go to register (for free) and follow USA Nordic. We will livestream as many US Cup events as possible. (see livestream protocol) In order to livestream, your event/site, must have the following: US Cup - 6
7 1. Dedicated internet connection with a minimum of 5.0Mbps and preferred 10Mbps upload data rate. a. Hardwired ethernet connection preferred. b. Hotspot acceptable. 2. AC power availability at all camera locations. 3. Dedicated table at encoder location with three chairs in a quiet room with AC power and internet connection. Volunteers: 1. One main contact for coordination of volunteers and site requirements. USANS will try to provide a producer to events that will be livestreamed. 2. Two capable camera operators for each dynamic camera. 3. An additional volunteer to assist with computer operations or cameras as needed. 4. An outrun interviewer if desired (will have wireless mic from USANS). Please let the US Cup coordinators know how many positions your club will be able to assist with so we are able to plan accordingly for each event. Nordic Combined Format: Organizers are encouraged to be flexible and creative in their race. Either mass start before jumping, or (preferably) Gunderson format may be used. Assistance with calculations is readily available. Consider using your outrun or nearby trails to have a course that may be as short as 1/2 km for a 5-10 km race.
