1 End 2018 with exciting Centennial Events For The Whole Family The 100 year celebration for Vero Beach continues in December with some historic and holiday activities for all ages. Under the direction of Centennial Co-Chairs City Clerk Tammy Bursick and Councilman Tony Young, the community is invited to take advantage of any or all of the Centennial activities which represent the city s history, landmarks, ancestors, organizations, agriculture, education, transportation and the arts through the decades of technical, beautification and architectural advancements. 3 December 30, p and December 31, p Ballet Vero Beach Nutcracker on the Indian River (Photo by: Will Brenner) For the second year, Ballet Vero Beach, the only professional ballet company between Palm Beach and Orlando, presents the thrilling original production Nutcracker on the Indian River at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. The libretto and classical score retain all the whimsy and magic of the original ballet, but the action has been moved to the year Vero Beach was founded (1919). By taking the ballet's heroine, Marie, on a holiday journey from New York to Florida, Fifth Avenue Mansions, Grand Central Station, and rail cars become settings. Instead of the traditional second act featuring candy characters and ethnic dances, Marie dreams of the shores of the Indian River Lagoon and is entertained by all manner of local flora and fauna. From land crabs to manatees and river otters to bougainvillea, Nutcracker on the Indian River takes all the magic of The Nutcracker and the holiday season and uses that magic to both entertain and inspire. 4 Monday, December 31, p to 12:30a The New Year's Eve Party of the Century "Diamonds are Forever" (Photo by Lee Orre) This free event will be held outdoors on the grounds of the Heritage Center and surrounding block along 14 th Avenue in historic downtown. This diamond studded event will include live entertainment and dancing by South Florida s Interactive DJ/MC Magic Mark, a beer garden, champagne bar, food trucks, fun activities until the ball drops at midnight and fireworks, Presented by Main Street Vero Beach in association with The Heritage Center. 5 Tuesday, January 1, :00 a.m. Centennial Resolution Run (with photo by Lee Orre) Start the New Year off right with the Resolution Run 5K Run/Walk from Riverside Park. Organized by Run Vero, this New Year's Day race travels over the Barber Bridge above the beautiful Indian River Lagoon. The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Amenities include an awesome race t-shirt, custom medals for award winners, and a FREE Kid's Fun Run. Post-Race festivities take place in Riverside Park and include Music, Refreshments, Raffles and Awards Ceremony.
