2 Steve Perry Joe Federici Head Coach Fourth season Rutgers 01 Assistant Coach First season Rutgers 05 At -13 will be Perry s fourth year has head coach of lightweight rowing and sixth season, overall, at. Perry was named s head lightweight coach in August after spending four years as lightweight head coach at Dartmouth. Last season, he helped the varsity four win the title at the RA National Championships...The win at the event marked the second gold medal for in the varsity four since will be his 1 year coaching in the EARC lightweight league. Led the varsity eight to the runner-up spot at the RA National Championship. n his first year as head coach in, the Mids boasted a regular-season record of 14-7, and won the Johnson Cup (vs. Yale) and Callow Trophy (vs. ). As the lightweight assistant coach at from , he coached the first freshman boat to an impressive 33-1 record during his three years on staff. He mentored the Mids first freshmen boat to first-place finishes at the Eastern Sprints Championship in 2003 and `05, while helping the second freshmen boat to three-consecutive Eastern Sprints titles. Coaching Prior to Perry was the head coach of Dartmouth College Lightweight Crew for four years and guided the Big Green to a 15-7 record during his tenure. n 2007, he was named the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Coach of the after his first varsity boat won the Eastern Sprints Championship for the third time in school history and would later place fourth at the RA National Championship. Led the varsity eight to the EARC and vy League championships. He also helped Dartmouth claim the Biglin Bowl cup over and MT, which equaled the number of wins by the Big Green over the Crimson in the race s first-54 years. Before his first arrival in Annapolis, Perry spent two seasons at Rutgers ( ) and one season at (2002) as lightweight assistant coach. With the Scarlet Knights, he produced an 11-6 record with the first freshmen crew, including a fifth-place finish at the Eastern Sprints Championship. During his lone season at, he led the Quakers first freshmen boat to a 5-2 record - their first winning season in 10 years. Joe Federici joined the staff in July and works primarily with the freshman crews. He came to the Naval Academy after spending four years as head coach of the lightweight rowing club team at the University of Delaware. Federici had a successful tenure in his four years at Delaware as he guided the Blue Hens to several titles at some of the sport s top regattas. n and, he led the team s top crew to gold medals at the Southern ntercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. Federici also mentored Blue Hen crews to several strong showings at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta as in, the top crew took home the gold medal while the first varsity claimed silver at the event this past spring. n, Federici was named the American Collegiate Rowing Association s Mid-Atlantic All-Regional Coach of the. Under his tutelage, several team members have been invited to compete in various USRowing Under-23 National Lightweight team camps. Federici attended Rutgers University where he was a member of the lightweight rowing team for four years. As a senior in , he served as captain and was named the team s most valuable athlete. After graduating from Rutgers in 2005 with degrees in both history and political science, Federici went on to earn his J.D. from the university in. U.S. National Coaching History Perry worked with the U.S. Under-23 Women s National Rowing Team in and `09. n the summer of, he served as the head sweep rowing coach, where he selected, prepared and trained the silver medal-winning women s eight boat at the Under-23 World Championship in Racice, Czech Republic. n, he served as assistant sweep rowing coach and helped the women s eight crew win the gold medal at the Under-23 World Championship in Brandenburg, Germany. Rowing History Perry graduated from Rutgers in 2001 and spent four years with the lightweight crew team - three of which he was a first varsity oarsman. He served as the team captain in 1999, during which the Scarlet Knights won the silver medal at the RA National Championship. n 2001, he traveled with the Rutgers varsity crew to compete in the Henley Regatta and Britannia Cup. Three years prior (1998), his New York Athletic Club s lightweight eight boat won several national championships, as well as the Henley Regatta. He was a four-year oarsman Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, Va. 2
