1 INSIDE BIG GREEN LACROSSE Newsletter for Friends of Dartmouth Men's Lacrosse October 2006 Greetings to Former Players and Current Friends, As the summer months quickly come to a close it is time to once again welcome a new group of freshmen to the Dartmouth family. The Class of 2010 has hit the campus running. A group of self starters, they have already found Manley Weight Room, the new 14,000-square foot Fitness Center and Scully-Fahey Field. Not a day goes by that we do not see the team doing the little things outside on the turf or in the gym. Our sophomores and seniors have taken the 2010 s under their wings as the fall 2006 season has begun. With our junior class off term our sophomore class will take on greater leadership roles within our team. After finishing our first team meeting and strength session it is evident that our men are prepared to continue the climb to the top of the Ivy League. Fall 2006 is highlighted by our Alumni Game Weekend which is in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend October Once again the more experienced alumni will get together on a Saturday afternoon to do it one more time. This highly anticipated re-match is building momentum as we continue to hear rumors of Alumni Team game planning in preparation for this year s event. Our fall meeting with the Men's Lacrosse Friends Advisory Board will also take place this weekend. While we will be discussing progress made within our committees, I would like to ask for everyone s help in establishing our mentoring program and a career day to take place during the season. We have already assigned Big Brothers within our team to mentor our 2010 s. This fall we would like to introduce alumni mentors to them as well. If you have interest in being a mentor please attend the Board Meeting or contact Andy.Towers@Dartmouth.edu. Captains for the season as elected by their peers include Nick Bonacci 07, Wilson Handler 07, and Ryan O Connor 07. The Tri-Captains have their sights set high as they lead the team into this fall season with the challenge of being the hardest working Big Green lacrosse team that has ever donned the Green and White. On the first day of fall term classes newly appointed strength and conditioning coach Dan Nichol began working with the team. We will continue to challenge ourselves each day to be the best team we can be in preparation for spring A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.), Dan Nichol joined the Dartmouth staff in July as the Big Green s new assistant strength and conditioning coach. Nichol will be responsible for the Dartmouth lacrosse team s strength, conditioning and nutrition programs. From January 2005 until his appointment at Dartmouth, Nichol worked as an assistant strength coach/personal trainer at Poliquin Performance Center East in Wilmington, Mass. Prior to that he was head strength and conditioning coach and equipment manager for the University of Tennessee-Martin football program during the 2005 season. Nichol earned his B.S. degree in applied exercise science from Springfield College in From , he was a graduate associate at Springfield while working toward his M.Ed. in strength and conditioning. With Coach Bartolo Governanti accepting his new appointment as the Head Men s Lacrosse Coach at Merrimack College, we have recently hired Coach Patrick Tracy. He comes to Dartmouth after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Goucher College in Towson, MD. While at Goucher, Tracy served as offensive coordinator. Prior to his stint at Goucher, Tracy spent two seasons coaching at the St. Paul s School in Brooklandville, MD. As a player, Tracy began his career at The Ohio State University and then transferred to Goucher College to play his final two seasons. During his senior year he was an All Capital Athletic Conference Attackman. We are excited to have Coach Tracy on board and have warmly welcomed him to the Dartmouth lacrosse family. We are looking forward to seeing you this fall and hope you can attend as many events in as possible starting with our Dartmouth Lacrosse Alumni Weekend. Please be patient with our new web site at as it is under construction. Keep up to date with Big Green lacrosse as we will continue to refresh our web site throughout the year. Sincerely, Bill Wilson Ben Grinnell '05 Adam White '05
