6 M aryland s new home for Terrapin Athletics was completed in the fall of 2002 and has already provided six seasons of toppled attendance records and memories on the hardwood. Comcast Center provides a seating capacity of 17,950 fans for basketball games and serves as the campus site for university special events and select community events. The Terrapins first public event at the arena was the 2002 Midnight Madness celebration, which has grown to become one of the premiere student events of the academic year. The women s basketball team holds the distinction of playing the first-official game in Comcast Center, an victory over Loyola on November 22, 2002, also the first game of the Brenda Frese Era. In each of the six seasons Maryland has called Comcast Center home, attendance for women s basketball games has soared. The Terps have ranked in the top 10 in attendance in each of the last two years and have been in the top 25 since moving to the new building. In , Maryland made the largest single-season improvement in home attendance in the nation, nearly doubling its average from the previous season. A school-record 150,000- plus fans attended home games at the state-of-the-art arena, and surpassed that benchmark in Comcast Center has also been the site of nine of the 10 largest crowds in ACC women s basketball history. Among the top crowds are two sold-out games in , breaking the conference s single-game attendance record, a mark held by the Terrapins. The top-notch facility was the site of the first and second rounds of the 2005 NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Championship, and was selected to host in 2008, when the tournament was expanded to eight teams at eight sites. The College Park site led all others in attendance over the two-day event. The Terrapins are slated to host the first and second rounds of the championship, once again, in Fans can also relive their memories of the men s and women s basketball national championship seasons. The arena also houses both teams crystal national championship trophies in a glassencased display on the concourse level, while the Final Four playing surfaces are prominently displayed on the arena s floor level. Comcast Center houses the university s athletic administration offices and includes a 7,000-square-foot Academic Support Center, providing an enhanced study atmosphere for the school s near -750 student-athletes on 27 teams. An additional 1,500-seat gymnasium serves as home to the Terps volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling teams. The Sprint Heritage Hall multipurpose room, which is located on the concourse level, is equipped to host banquets, press conferences, meetings and serve as the pre-game restaurant suite overlooking the competition arena, while the 20 suites provide enhanced viewing and entertainment capabilities for Maryland fans. Comcast Center is an excellent place for alumni and fans to enjoy their favorite sports and share their common Terrapin spirit. Visitors can learn about the men and women who have forged the Maryland Athletics program among the nation s elite as they stroll through the Terrapin Walk of Fame and History. The Terrapin Team Store, located just off the soaring three-level atrium lobby, allows visitors to outfit their pride. Maryland has, once again, reclaimed the status of having the best student activities center and basketball arena in the country.

8 ACC AND THE RPI REPORT The ACC has been the top-rated conference in the nation two of the last four years, according to the RPI Report, and in the top three nationally in each of those seasons. The ACC topped the report in 2005 and 2006 and was third the last two seasons. In the final report for 2008, the ACC had four teams in the top 20 (3. North Carolina, 6. Maryland, 10. Duke, 16. Virginia). ACC SETS TOURNAMENT ATTENDANCE MARK The 2008 ACC Women s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. continued to display the increasing popularity of the event when it set several new tournament attendance records, including a new total attendance record with 72,114 fans over the four-day event. Other records broken include: First Round (Game 1) ,158 First Round (Game 2) ,890 First Round (Games 3& ,320 Quarterfinals (Game 5) ,969 Quarterfinals (Game 6) ,201 ACC AND BEYOND Since the inception of the WNBA in 1997, 69 former ACC players have performed in the league, while five former players have worked the sidelines as coaches. Most recently, four ACC players were selected in the first round of the 2008 WNBA Draft, all within the first 14 picks. The previous two seasons, the conference saw nine players selected on draft day, setting an ACC record. Meanwhile, seven ACC representatives, including coaches and players, have participated in the Olympics, including Maryland s Vicky Bullett was a member of both the 1988 and 1992 Olympic teams. Many more have participated with the USA Basketball program and represented the ACC in international tournaments. For instance, Marissa Coleman, Laura Harper, Crystal Langhorne and Lynetta Kizer have each won at least one gold medal at junior world competitions or the Pan American Games. ASSOCIATED PRESS POLLS SHOW ACC STRENGTH For a third-consecutive season, the ACC finished with three teams in the Associated Press top 10 last season, as North Carolina finished second, Maryland fifth and Duke ninth. No other conference had three top-10 teams at seasons end even once over that span. The ACC has had at least three teams in the final AP poll in each of the last 14 years. Last year, six ACC schools were ranked at least once, while Maryland, North Carolina and Duke polled in the top 15 throughout the season. ACC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT Over the last 31 years, the ACC has proven to be one of the most powerful conferences in the history of the NCAA Tournament. The league s teams have given the conference a combined record (.526).

9 The league has made 14 total trips to the Final Four over the last 27 seasons, with five teams reaching the title game and Maryland and North Carolina claiming national championships. The 2006 NCAA Tournament marked the first time in tournament history that a conference sent three teams to the Final Four. For the past six seasons, the ACC has sent at least six teams to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Virginia all reached the Big Dance. For a third consecutive season, two ACC teams earned No. 1 seeds to the NCAA Tournament. North Carolina, which picked up the school's fourth consecutive ACC Tournament crown, finished 30-2 and earned a No. 1 slot for the fourth consecutive year, while Maryland, which concluded the season 30-3 overall and was 19-0 in College Park, Md., earned another top seed in the NCAA postseason tourney. The ACC has sent at least one school to the Sweet 16 for 20 consecutive years, and at least one to the Final Four in 11 of those seasons. The league has made 14 total trips to the Final Four over the last 27 seasons, with five teams reaching the title game and Maryland and North Carolina claiming national championships. The players have been named the NCAA Final Four s Most Outstanding Player, including Laura Harper in All told, 14 ACC players have been named to the All-Final Four team since Sixty-five have earned NCAA Tournament All-Region distinction with 10 Most Outstanding Player honors. ACC TELEVISION Members of the Atlantic Coast Conference will make 78 television appearances during the season. The schedule boasts 41 televised games involving ACC teams, including 10 involving the Terps. Twelve ACC games will be available nationally, including seven games on ESPN2 and five more on Fox Sports Net. Thirty conference match-ups will air on the league s regional sports networks, which include Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Florida, and New England Sports Network. The regional sports networks reach approximately 24 million households. Seven games of the 2009 ACC Women s Basketball Tournament to be held March 5-8 at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum four on the league s regional sports networks and three nationally on Fox Sports Net and affiliates. FSN will broadcast the ACC Tournament semifinal games and the 2009 ACC Championship game. This season will feature the second annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which matches 11 teams from each conference in head-to-head. In the inaugural year of the event, the ACC won eight of the 11 matchups. Last year, every game of the competition was television on ESPNU or the Big Ten Network.

18 2002 April 2, 2002 Brenda Frese is named the new head coach of the Maryland women s basketball team. She is only the third coach in the history of the program Nov. 19, 2002 Even before coaching a game at Maryland, Frese signs the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation, which includes McDonald s All-American Shay Doron. Nov. 22, 2002 The Brenda Frese Era begins when the Terrapins defeat Loyola, 80-72, in the first game ever played in the new Comcast Center. Dec. 1, 2002 The Terps break 100 points for the first time in almost 10 years, defeating UMES, Feb. 1, 2003 Over 5,000 fans watch the Terps edge out NC State, 74-72, in the largest crowd since March 2003 Renneika Razor is named second team All-ACC, the highest honor given to a Terp since Nov. 21, 2003 Shay Doron, Frese s first recruit, puts on a free-throw shooting clinic in her first-collegiate game, making an NCAA-record tying 23 free throws against Coppin State. Feb. 22, 2004 The excitement had been brewing all season and Terp fans get their last shot to see the team in action. A then-comcast Center record 13,446 fans some to watch Maryland play Duke, the the-second largest crowd in ACC history. Feb. 29, 2004 In a must-win situation, Maryland travels to Clemson and wins, 80-69, finishing in a tie for third in the ACC, its best showing since 1997, also earning a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament. March 6, 2004 Maryland tops Florida State, 62-47, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since March 21, 2004 In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, Maryland earns a 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament and upsets Miami, 86-85, for the team s first postseason victory in 12 years. March 2004 Three Terps earn postseason honors, with Shay Doron leading the way earning third-team nods becoming the first rookie in school history to garner All-ACC honors Nov Maryland is ranked 23rd in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason poll, the team s first preseason ranking since Dec. 6, 2004 After opening the season with a 5-1 record, Maryland cracks the top 20 in the rankings for the first time in 11 years. Jan. 9, 2005 The Terps stun No. 5 North Carolina, defeating the Tar Heels, 92-77, for Maryland s first upset of a top five team since Feb. 3, 2005 Maryland s win over Georgia Tech is Frese s 100th-career victory as a head coach. Feb. 12, 2005 The Terps ask fans to Cram Comcast and they respond. 17,243 fans fill the stands to set the then- ACC single-game attendance record. March 4, 2005 Maryland wins its 20th game of the season, the first since , defeating Clemson, 66-55, at the ACC Tournament. March 5, 2005 The Terps upset No. 19 NC State to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament for the second year in a row. March 20, 2005 Maryland s win over UW-Green Bay in the first round of the NCAA Tournament is Frese s 50th as head coach of the Terrapins. March 2005 Crystal Langhorne is named the ACC s Rookie of the Year, the first to earn the honor since She is also a second team All-ACC selection, the highest honored rookie Terrapin in school history. Shay Doron garners first team all-conference nods, Kodak/WBCA All-Region honors and is a Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-American. April 2005 The Terps end the season ranked 24th in the final poll, the first time they appear in the last poll of the season in 12 years Nov. 26, 2005 Stacked with a roster boasting six high school All-Americans and eight Gatorade Players of the Year, Frese s Terps nearly upset then-no. 1 Tennessee in the Virgin Islands. Feb. 9, 2006 Maryland hands the Tar Heels another stunning upset Ashleigh Newman hits an improbable shot to force overtime. March 4, 2006 The Terps continue to shock the women s basketball world, defeating No. 2 Duke, 90-81, in the ACC Tournament, reaching the championship game for the first time since March 2006 Crystal Langhorne is named first team All-ACC, while Shay Doron and Marissa Coleman are second team selections. Coleman is also the second-straight Terrapin selected the ACC s Rookie of the Year. March 13, 2006 The NCAA Tournament bracket is announced and the Terps earn their highest seeding since March 27, 2006 Frese helps the Terps overcome a stomach flu, leading them to a overtime win over Utah putting Maryland in the Final Four for the first time since Crystal Langhorne is selected the region s Most Outstanding Player. April 2, 2006 Facing a familiar foe, Maryland pulls off another upset, disposing of top-seed North Carolina to advance to the program s first-ever NCAA championship game. April 4, 2006 Maryland wins its firstever National Championship, defeating top-seeded Duke, 78-75, in overtime. Freshman Kristi Toliver hits a game-tying three-pointer with seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra time. April 4, 2006 Sophomore Laura Harper is named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four and Toliver is named to the all-tournament team. April 2006 Sophomore Crystal Langhorne is the first Terrapin in 17 years to be selected an All-American, earning the honor from the Associated Press and the USBWA.

19 October 2006 Five Terps are named Naismith Award preseason candidates, a first in the history of the honor. Four are named to the preseason WBCA Wade Watch list, also a first in the history of the award. November 2006 Returning all five starters from the championship team, Maryland receives its first-ever preseason No. 1 ranking and remains in that spot for 10 weeks. Dec. 2, 2006 Sophomore Marissa Coleman is the first Terrapin in school history to record a triple-double and the 11th in the history of the ACC. Jan. 3, 2007 The Terps handily defeat NC State, 80-61, in the ACC opener, giving Frese her 100th win as head coach of the Terrapins. Jan. 10, 2007 Maryland runs out to a school record 18-0 start, also breaking the school record for longest win-streak, winning 24-straight games with the victory over Miami, It is the largest margin of victory in an ACC game for the Terps. Jan. 28, 2007 An ACC-record and sold out crowd of 17,950 fill Comcast Center to watch a rematch of the 2006 NCAA semifinals vs. North Carolina. Feb. 18, 2007 Terp fans tie the ACC attendance record, selling out the game, the third women s basketball sell out in school history and the second in Comcast Center. It also marks the final home game of seniors Shay Doron and Aurelie Noirez. March 2, 2007 Maryland avenges its loss to Georgia Tech, defeating the Yellow Jackets, 75-59, to advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals for the thirdstraight year. March 2007 Crystal Langhorne is a first team All-ACC pick for the second year in a row, while Coleman is named to the second team. Kristi Toliver garners allconference nods for the first time and is named to the third team. March 18, 2007 Maryland is the No. 2 seed for the second-straight year and advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year with a win over Harvard. April 2006 Crystal Langhorne is selected to the WBCA All-American team, the first to be honored by the organization since She is also named an All-American by the Associated Press and USBWA, the first Terp to earn multiple All- American honors in school history November 2007 Frese signs her sixthconsecutive top-10 recruiting class for the season. November 18, 2007 The Terrapins win the Preseason WNIT Championship, defeating #4 LSU in the finals. Maryland beats Princeton, Delaware and #23 Notre Dame en route to the title game. December 3, 2008 Crystal Langhorne breaks the all-time rebounding record at Rutgers. She would go on to finish with over 1,000 for her career. Kristi Toliver also surpasses the 1,000-point mark, the third Terp this season to achieve the feat, making the Terrapins one of 12 known NCAA teams all-time with four active 1,000-point scorers. January 18, 2008 Langhorne breaks the all-time scoring record in a victory at Virginia. She would go on to be the first Terp to score 2,000 points and the first with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. February 17, 2008 Frese gives birth to twin boys Markus and Tyler. That evening the Terrapins defeat Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium to claim the first regular-season sweep of the Blue Devils since February 24, 2008 Terrapins defeat Florida State, 92-84, in overtime for an NCAA-record 21st home victory of the season and the fifth undefeated home season in school history. Senior Crystal Langhorne has her jersey honored after the game. She is the first-ever Terp to have her jersey in the rafters while still active. March 2, 2008 Frese makes a surprise return to the sidelines, traveling to NC State to watch her Terps defeat the Wolfpack, the team s 13 ACC victory of the season, tying a school record. March 4, 2008 A school-record four Terrapins are named to the All-ACC team, with Langhorne and Toliver garnering first-team nods. Langhorne also becomes the first player in the history of the program to be named to the All-ACC squad four times. March 5, 2008 It took almost 20 years, but Langhorne becomes the second player in school history to be voted the ACC Player of the Year. March 7, 2008 The Terrapins win their 30th game of the year, defeating Boston College in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. It is the second 30-win campaign in school history. March 17, 2008 With the announcement of the bracket for the 2008 NCAA Women s Basketball Championship, Maryland learns it is the number one seed in the Spokane Region, the second time in school history the Terps have been a top-seeded team and the first time under Frese. March 23, 2008 Frese wins her 200thcareer game as the Terrapins defeat Coppin State at home, 80-66, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round for the fifth-straight year. March 30, 2008 With a dominating win over No. 20 Vanderbilt, Frese leads the Terrapins to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three years. They would go on to fall to NCAA finalist Stanford. April 5, 2008 Langhorne and Toliver are named WBCA All-Americans, the first time since 1989 multiple Terrapins have garnered the award in the same year. They would be named All-Americans by the Associated Press, the USBWA and Sports Illustrated. April 5, 2008 It is announced that Toliver has been named the Nancy Lieberman Award winner, presented to the nation s top point guard. She is the first Terrapin to earn the honor. She would accept the award, presented by Lieberman, on April 23 at the Detroit Athletic Club. April 6, 2008 Langhorne and Laura Harper are the first two Terrapins to ever be drafted in the first round of the 2008 WNBA Draft.
