The game will serve as TXST s senior day, as the team will honor Taeler Deer, Zandra Emanuel, Zelor Massaquoi, Ericka May and Ti Aira Pitts following the game. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. Texas State enters the contest on a four-game winning streak and winners of eight of its last nine games. TXST swept Georgia State (62-40) and Georgia Southern (60-51) last time out to clinch a first round bye in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Four Bobcats scored in double-figures, including: Toshua Leavitt (17), Taeler Deer (14), Zelor Massaquoi (11) and Brooke Holle (10). Ericka May collected a season-best 14 rebounds in the win. TXST VS. UTA The Bobcats lead the all-time series with the Mavericks, UTA topped TXST in a heartbreaker earlier this season, defeating the Bobcats in overtime on Feb. 10. 3 GAME NOTES LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BOBCATS The Bobcats improved to 20-8 (13-4 SBC) after defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles (5-22, 2-14 SBC) by a score of inside Strahan Coliseum on Feb. 24. The victory clinched Texas State s first 20-win season since the season that ended with a Southland Conference championship and a WNIT appearance. Toshua Leavitt, coming off a record-breaking performance on Feb. 22, scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Bobcats. The junior guard converted 5-of-10 shots, including 3-of-7 from behind the 3-point line. Taeler Deer stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Brooke Holle chipped in 10 points and four rebounds while Zelor Massaquoi scored a career-best 11 points in 25 minutes off the bench. SENIOR DAY Following Saturday s regular-season finale against UTA, Texas State will honor seven seniors affiliated with the program, including five Texas State players: Taeler Deer, Zandra Emanuel, Zelor Massaquoi, Ericka May and Ti Aira Pitts. The team will also acknowledge the services of practice player Lonvis Naulls and manager Andrea Estrada. LEAVITT FOR THREE Toshua Leavitt holds nearly every Texas State 3-point record possible, including: makes and attempts in a game, season and career. The first record she toppled was 3-point field goals made in a single game. She connected on 10 3-point field goals in the loss to Coastal Carolina on Dec. 31, 2017 and again in the win over Georgia State on Jan. 27, Her record setting performances matched Mari Sanchez s Sun Belt Conference record, who made 10 3-pointers on Feb. 23, She is the only NCAA women s basketball player to make at least 10 3-point attempts in multiple games this season. Against ULM on Jan. 18, 2018, she moved ahead of Sarah Wagner ( ) for most made 3-pointers in a career. As a junior, Leavitt has buried 236 career 3-pointers, the only TXST player on the men s or women s side to make at least 200 triples as a Bobcat. Leavitt has torched the nets for 119 made 3-pointers this season, establishing a new program record, besting Joyce Ekworomadu s mark of 82 triples during the season. Make no. 116 placed her atop the single-season Sun Belt boards for made 3-pointers, besting the 115 made 3-points set by Kortni Jones (Middle Tennessee) during the season. The junior guard can now shift her aim towards the single-season NCAA record held by Brianna Butler. The Syracuse graduate connected on 129 triples during the season to establish the record. Through 26 games, Leavitt is knocking down 4.58 triples per contest, which leads the NCAA and is on pace to top the NCAA record set by Alabama State s Lisa McMullen during the campaign. TRACKING DEER Senior guard Taeler Deer has her name etched all over the Texas State women s basketball record books, earning a spot on five separate lists, not to mention being one of just three Bobcat women to ever amass more than 1,000 career points and 300 career assists. On Dec. 29, 2017, Deer became the 16th player in program history, and just the fifth player under head coach Zenarae Antoine to eclipse the 1,000-point milestone, joining: Ayriel Anderson, Ashley Azeh, Diamond Ford and Erin Peoples. Deer ranks no. 10 in program history in career points, netting 1,282 points. She is seventh on the all-time made 3-point list with 125 makes during her four seasons in the maroon and gold and has made 44 attempts during her senior campaign. She ranks second in program history, dishing out 398 assists throughout her career. She trails only Shelley Borton, who notched 595 assists from , on the career list. The 182 helpers she has handed out this season is the Texas State women s basketball single-season record, topping the mark set by Borton (161) during the campaign. 9 TXST HITS 20-WIN PLATEAU IN WIN OVER GEORGIA SOUTHERN, (Feb. 24, 2018) SAN MARCOS, Texas The Texas State women s basketball team (20-8, 13-4 SBC) survived a hotly contested game against Georgia Southern (5-22, 2-14 SBC), 60-51, inside Strahan Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The victory gives Texas State 20 wins in a season for the sixth time in program history. The most recent occurrence came during the campaign, a season that ended with an NIT berth. That team was recognized at halftime of Saturday s contest. On top of the 20-win season, the Bobcats also secured a top-four seed and a first round bye in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Neither offense found much traction in the game as neither team shot above 40 percent from the floor. The Eagles converted just 21-of-64 (32.8 percent) from the floor and 4-of- 21 (19.0 percent) from behind the 3-point line. Texas State was hardly better, shooting 20-of-53 (37.7 percent) from the field and 6-of-25 (24.0 percent) from deep. Of the six triples the Bobcats made, four came in the final eight minutes of the game, helping TXST pull away late. After building a edge at the half, the Eagles trimmed the Bobcat lead to with 17 seconds left in the third quarter on a jump shot from Alexis Brown. On the ensuing possession, Brooke Holle snagged an offensive rebound and drew a foul. She stepped to the line and drained a pair of free throws to push the lead back to four points entering the final stanza. The teams opened the fourth quarter with more than two minutes of scoreless basketball before Holle came up with a steal and buried a corner 3-pointer. Two possessions later, Holle connected on another 3-pointer to force Georgia Southern into a timeout. The Bobcat lead had climbed back to 10 points on an 8-0 run by Holle. The sophomore guard finished the game with 10 points, one of four Bobcats in double-figures. Toshua Leavitt led the way for TXST, scoring a game-high 17 points. The newly crowned Sun Belt Conference 3-point leader drilled three of Texas State s six made triples. Senior guard Taeler Deer scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists. Deer was highly effective inside the 3-point line, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, most of which came inside the paint. Off the Bobcat bench, Zelor Massaquoi scored a season-best 11 points. The graduate transfer hit on 3-of-4 shot attempts and sank all five free throw attempts. She also ripped down three rebounds and rejected one shot in 25 minutes of action. The Bobcats will close out the regular season against in-state rival UTA on March 3. The regular season finale will represent Senior Day for Texas State s five seniors.
