A&M is looking for their third win over a ranked opponent this season, but their fi rst such win in SEC play Gary Blair is 12-0 all-time against his former assistant coaches. However, Blair lost earlier this season to his former Director of Operations, Mike Neighbors (Washington), who he is 1-1 against. Five members of the Mississippi State staff (Vic Schaefer, Johnnie Harris, Aqua Franklin, Maryann Baker & Skylar Collins) played or coached under Gary Blair at Texas A&M. Texas A&M Erases 15-Point Deficit To Beat No. 8 Duke Then-No. 7 Texas A&M rallied from down with 11:36 to play to defeat then-no. 8 Duke on Nov. 30 A&M went on a 15-2 run immediately after reaching their biggest defi cit, coming to within two points with 8:15 remaining, and tying the game with 6:42 to play. The Aggies would lead by as many as six in the closing minutes Jordan Jones had 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while sparking the team s comeback on defense Elementary School Day 7,712 fans, with around 4,400 of those coming from local elementary schools, attended the Aggies win over Northwestern State on Dec. 3. Walker was a unanimous selection to the Lincoln Regional team. Jordan Jones led the NCAA Tournament with 35 assists (8.8 per game), and averaged 10.0 points in the competition A&M led by as many as seven points, which matched Connecticut s largest deficit all season, but fell to the eventual National Champions in the Lincoln Regional Final, in their closest game of the NCAA Tournament. 5 Series History Series History - A&M leads 3-0 A&M has won all three matchups with Mississippi State, including two wins against Mississippi State in SEC play The Aggies have won all three games by 38-or-more points, but this is the first matchup in the series with both teams ranked. The Coaching Matchup (Blair 11-6 vs. Mississippi State, 9-0 vs. Schaefer) Blair is 9-0 against his former assistant Vic Schaefer, and 3-0 against Schaefer while he has been at Mississippi State. All-time, Blair is 12-0 against his former assistants, but lost earlier this season to his former Director of Operations, Mike Neighbors (Washington) Blair is 11-6 all-time vs. Mississippi State, but trails MSU 4-3 in Starkville. Blair has won his last three meetings with MSU, all three of which came at Texas A&M Last Time vs. Missouri (W, On Jan. 19, 2014 In College Station) Texas A&M held Mississippi State to 20 points during the first half, and just one field goal the last 11:40 of the half, as the Aggies took a lead into the break. Mississippi State had its offensive rhythm disrupted by the stifling Aggie defense, shooting just 20.3% over the course of the game and were held without a 3-pointer. Aggie Traditions Home of the 12th Man Texas A&M is known by sports fans everywhere as the home of the 12th Man The tradition was born out of the willingness to serve. This willing spirit has endured, and today the Aggie student body is known as the 12th Man: united in loyalty, united in support and united and ready to serve when they are called to do so. Yell Leaders Yell Leaders are a team of upperclassmen, three seniors and two juniors, elected each year by the student body. Aggie Yell Leaders still wear white during games and attend all home women s basketball games, plus postseason. The tradition dates back to Reveille Reveille, the first lady of Aggieland, is a purebred collie and the official mascot of Texas A&M. As a five-star general,she is the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets. The most current Reveille is Reveille VIII, and will retire at the conclusion of the 2015 spring semester. Aggie Ring The distinctive Aggie Ring serves as the symbolic link to the Aggie network of former students. The ring is not given, it must be earned academically. It was E.C. Jonas, class of 1894, who designed the ring Aggies wear today. Nothing on the ring has changed, except when the university s name changed to Texas A&M University in Gig Em At a yell practice before the 1930 TCU game, a dedicated fan and member of the Texas A&M Board of Regents named Pinky Downs 06 shouted, What are we going to do to those Horned Frogs? Improvising, he borrowed the name of a sharppronged frog hunting tool, called a gig. Gig em, Aggies! he said as he made a fist with his thumb extended straight up. With that, the first hand sign in the old Southwest Conference was born. 8 GARY BLAIR 12th Season at Texas A&M Women s Basketball Hall of Fame member, Gary Blair, led Texas A&M to the 2011 NCAA Championship and has transformed the women s basketball program into a national power since his appointment as head coach in Blair, a two-time national fi nalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, has guided Texas A&M to nine straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and to four conference championships, including the 2013 SEC Tournament Championship. Blair led the Aggies to their fi rst national title in their fi rst-ever trip to the NCAA Women s Final Four and closed out the season with a 33-5 record, the most victories in program history. With Blair at the helm, Texas A&M has won either a conference championship or advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen every year since The Aggies have made fi ve appearances in the Sweet Sixteen in the past seven years, and reached the Elite Eight in 2008, 2011 and Over the course of his 29-year collegiate coaching career, which includes stops at Stephen F. Austin from and Arkansas from , Blair has led his teams to 28 winning seasons (including ), win seasons, 20 NCAA Tournament appearances and 32 NCAA postseason victories. Blair has won a championship at every level of his coaching career including three state championships at Dallas South Oak Cliff High School, two national championships as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, a WNIT Championship at Arkansas and an NCAA championship at Texas A&M.
