The tradition dates back to Reveille Reveille, the first lady of Aggieland, is a purebred collie and the official mascot of Texas A&M. As a five-star general, she is the highest ranking member of the Corps of Cadets. Aggie Ring The distinctive Aggie Ring serves as the symbolic link to the Aggie network of former students. The ring is not given, it must be earned academically. It was E.C. Jonas, class of 1894, who designed the ring Aggies wear today. Nothing on the ring has changed, except when the university s name changed to Texas A&M University in Gig Em At a yell practice before the 1930 TCU game, a dedicated fan and member of the Texas A&M Board of Regents named Pinky Downs 06 shouted, What are we going to do to those Horned Frogs? Improvising, he borrowed the name of a sharppronged frog hunting tool, called a gig. Gig em, Aggies! he said as he made a fist with his thumb extended straight up. With that, the first hand sign in the old Southwest Conference was born. 6 GARY BLAIR 15th Season at Texas A&M Women s Basketball Hall of Fame member, Gary Blair, led Texas A&M to the 2011 NCAA Championship and has transformed the women s basketball program into a national power since his appointment as head coach in Blair, a two-time national finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, has guided Texas A&M to 12 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and to four conference championships, including the 2013 SEC Tournament Championship. Blair led the Aggies to their first national title in their first-ever trip to the NCAA Women s Final Four and closed out the season with a 33-5 record, the most victories in program history. The Aggies have made five appearances in the Sweet Sixteen in the past nine years, and reached the Elite Eight in 2008, 2011 and Over the course of his 33-year collegiate coaching career (this includes ), which includes stops at Stephen F. Austin from and Arkansas from , Blair has led his teams to 31 winning seasons, win seasons, 23 NCAA Tournament appearances and 35 NCAA postseason victories.
