2 2017 PUERTO RICO TIP-OFF AT MYRTLE BEACH BRONCO HISTORY AT HIGH-PROFILE TOURNAMENTS ON THE SCENE: Boise State s appearance at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach will continue a trend of high-profile tournaments for the Broncos under Leon Rice. The Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach is owned and operated by ESPN Events. The Broncos competed at the 2016 Gildan Charleston Classic last season and went 1-2 with a win against Western Michigan, who is also in this week s tournament. ESPN Events also runs the Wooden Legacy, where Boise State battled Michigan State and Arizona two years, and the Diamond Head Classic, where the Broncos were runners-up in The appearance at the Diamond Head Classic was Boise State s first major early-season tournament appearance since the 2000 Pearl Harbor Classic. SOUTH CAROLINA, WE MEET AGAIN: Not only are the Broncos familiar with the general state of South Carolina as they played there last season at the 2016 Gildan Charleston Classic, but there is also is a common thread with the University of South Carolina and high-profile tournaments as the two teams met at the 2013 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. Boise State won that matchup in what was head coach Frank Martin s second year at the helm. The two teams could square off in next round this week. RICE IN MID-SEASON TOURNAMENTS: Boise State is currently 7-6 in midseason tournaments similar to the upcoming Puerto Rico Tip-Off in Rice s tenure with the Broncos. The best result for the eighth-year head coach at a mid-season tournament came in 2013 at the Diamond Head Classic where the Broncos took second and knocked off Hawai i and South Carolina before falling to No. 14 Iowa State in the championship game.

Prep standouts Riley Abercrombie, Jaycson Bereal, Mikey Frazier and Max Rice along with transfer Pat Dembley will join the Broncos next fall. We re extremely excited about this recruiting class, Rice said. My staff did an amazing job of identifying five players that will be a tremendous fit for the Boise State basketball program. They all have great character, a love for the game and a work ethic that will make them successful both on and off the court.
