Stehlik finished his career at Gustavus with an overall record of , ranking 35th all-time in NCAA Division III women s soccer history. The Gusties won four conference titles (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996) during Stehlik s tenure. He coached a total of 27 All-MIAC players, six All- Americans, and three MIAC Players of the Year. The Gusties finished the 2011 season 5-12 overall and 3-8 in the MIAC. Goalkeeper Jessica Richert (Freeburg, Ill.) led the MIAC in saves within league play, turning away 82 shots for an average of 7.45 per game. Amanda Cartony (Stillwater, Minn.) earned All-Conference Honorable Mention distinction after leading the team with 12 points on six goals.

4 THIS WEEKEND The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will play host to four teams this weekend in Stevens Point, Wis. Joining Gustavus will be WIAC opponents the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, as well as conference foe the University of St. Thomas. The Point Soccer Bowl will be busy, featuring two games on both Friday and Saturday. Friday s contests will include UW-Stevens Point taking on St. Thomas at 1:00 p.m. and Gustavus facing UW-Oshkosh at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, St. Thomas battles UW-Oshkosh at 2:00 p.m. and Gustavus takes on UW-Stevens Point at 4:00 p.m. WOMEN S SOCCER Women s Soccer Contact Sports Information Graduate Assistant: Tyler Grey tgrey@gustavus.edu Office Phone: Cell Phone: Fax: Facebook: Gustavus Athletics MATCH NOTES Fresh Start The 2012 season kicks off with a bang, as the Gustie women s soccer team travels to Stevens Point for a two game weekend. Friday s matchup pits Gustavus up against the Titans from the UW-Oshkosh. Gustavus will then take on the host school UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon. A new season finds the Gusties looking to improve on last year s (3-8-0 MIAC) finish and 10th place finish in the MIAC. New Face New seasons bring new beginnings, renewed optimism and excitement, and in this case, a fresh new face at the helm of the Gustavus women s soccer program. Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie makes her head coaching debut on Friday. It will be the first time in 22 seasons that the Gusties will have a new leader on the sidelines. A 2008 graduate of William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y., Burnett-Kurie was a four-year starter for the Heron women s soccer team. Upon graduation, Burnett-Kurie accepted a position as an assistant women s soccer coach at Gettysburg College (Pa.) where she served from June In August of 2010, the Durham, N.H. native moved across the country to take an assistant coaching position at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif, where she helped the Bulldogs compile an overall record of ( SCIAC). Only Missing One The 2011 season saw the Gusties loose one lone senior in Meghan McMillan. Returning everyone else will be key for the Gustie women, and having point leader Amanda Cartony (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) doesn t hurt either. Cartony scored six goals for a total of 12 points last season. The Gustie defense will be anchored once again by their goalkeeper, senior Jessica Richert. The Freeburg, Ill. native led the MIAC in saves per game last season, averaging 6.88 saves per contest (110 saves in 16 games played), and ranked second in total saves with 110. Multi-Talented The 2012 Gustavus women s soccer roster features three student-athletes who participate in more than one sport. Cartony couples soccer with women s hockey, Richert also plays for the women s basketball team, and junior Leah Brossoit (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) competes on the women s track and field team.

5 MATCH 1: UW-OSHKOSH Clash of the Titans Friday afternoon will bring many firsts as the Gusties will aim to notch their first win of the new season in the 2012 debut, as well as hope to record their first win against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Friday s meeting will be the first between the Gusties and the Titans. The Gustie women return all but one player from last year s squad, while the Titans look to fill the shoes of six four-year letterwinners, three of which were WIAC All-Conference selections a year ago. The Titans finished the 2011 season with an overall record of (5-3-0 WIAC), good enough to slate them in third on the final leaderboard. Meet Head Coach Erin Coppernoll Coach Coppernoll enters her ninth season steering the Titan women s soccer program. With a career record of , she is the all-time winningest head women s soccer coach in UW-Oshkosh history. Her 74 victories places her in sixth on the WIAC career coaching wins list. Graduating from UW- Stevens Point in 1998, she spent three seasons playing for the Pointers after transferring from UW-Green Bay. Coppernoll began her coaching career with assistant positions at UW-Whitewater, Appleton East High School, Oshkosh West High School, and Stevens Point High School. Her first collegiate head coaching job came to her from Ripon College. Leaving the Red Hawks after one season, she continued on to North Park University (Ill.) where she compiled a record before accepting her current position at Oshkosh eight years ago. Where s Walder? One of the holes left in the Titan lineup is due to the graduation of goalkeeping staple Brittany Walder. Walder leaves a void between the posts after receiving her fourth varsity letter and WIAC All-Conference distinction. The Titans will look to junior Katie Berkopec (Apple Valley, Minn.) to step in and fill the shoes of Walder. Welcome Back Junior Chelsea Kierszh (Oshkosk, Wis.) is lone returning All-Conference recipient from last year s squad. The hometown West High School product led the team in scoring with six goals and one assist for a total of 13 points in her sophomore campaign. The Titans will need much of the same in the 2012 season, looking to improve on their third place WIAC finish a year ago. MATCH 2: UW-STEVENS POINT Series Snapshot Saturday s match up will be the 19th meeting between Gustavua and UW- Stevens point in women s soccer. The Pointers hold the upper hand in the all-time series with a mark of Last season brought fortune UW-Stevens Point s way once again, defeating the Golden Gusties 1-0 in St. Peter on September 3, Pair of Rookies The second game in as many days for each squad features two coaches in their first season at the helm of their respective programs. Named the interim head coach on July 24, 2012, Megan Schmidt became just the second head coach in the history of the UW- Stevens Point women s soccer program. She replaces legend Sheila Miech after 25 years as the Pointers leader. In her first season as a head coach, Schmidt will bring familiarity to the UW-Stevens Point squad. An assistant with the Pointers since her graduation in 2007, Schmidt has aided Stevens Point to a overall record, including a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Primarily working with the defense, her 2010 team cracked the top-ten national rankings in both shutout percentage and goals against average, as well as tying the school record for shutouts in a season. Schmidt also spent her collegiate career at UW-Stevens Point, earning four letters, serving as captain, and being named All-Conference once. Grinding Greer Senior Sammy Greer (Rubicon, Wis.) looks to duplicate her 2011 effort in the young 2012 season. Greer rattled off 10 goals with three assists for a team-high 23 points in the She ranked fourth in the WIAC in points and goals, and third in both goals per game and points per game. Greer took home All-WIAC honors following her efforts last season. Guns Blazin Stevens Point will look to bring offensive experience to the table in The Pointer women return all but one goal scorer from the 2011 squad. Scoring goals alongside Greer last season was Angela Gallow (8), Jessica Ruch (7), Sarah Vitale (3), Kim Jobke (2), Hannah Burt (1), and Kim Gietman (1), who together, accounted all but one goal.

6 Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie First Season at Gustavus Overall Office: Laura Burnett-Kurie will begin her first season as the head coach of the women s soccer program in Burnett-Kurie, a 2008 graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges (NY), is the fifth head coach in the 30-year history of the Gustavus women s soccer program. A licensed member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Burnett-Kurie was most recently the assistant women s soccer coach at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. since August of While on staff for the Bulldogs, Burnett-Kurie served as the team s director of recruiting and assisted in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of running a high caliber NCAA women s soccer program. Redlands compiled a mark of overall and within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) during her two seasons with the program. The Bulldogs qualified for the SCIAC Post-Season Tournament both years following fourth place league finishes. Before taking the job at Redlands, Burnett-Kurie served as an assistant coach for the Gettysburg College (Pa.) women s soccer program from June At Gettysburg, Burnett-Kurie assisted in all aspects of team management and was specifically responsible for the in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs for the team. As a college player, Burnett-Kurie was a four-year starter and captain (2007) for the Heron women s soccer program from During her tenure on the field, she helped lead the team to the program s first Liberty League Championship, one ECAC Championship, and two NCAA Tournament appearances. William Smith went a combined within that time, as Burnett-Kurie became just the fifth women s soccer player in Heron history to reach the 100-point milestone, registering 42 goals and 18 assists over her career. After being named Liberty League Rookie-of-the Year in 2004, she went on to be a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Third Team All-American (2006, 2007), and the Liberty League s Player of the Year in In addition to her accomplishments on the field, the Durham, N.H. native also garnered numerous academic honors. Laura was an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America honoree in 2005, a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree ( ), and a three-time Liberty League All-Academic performer. In addition to her responsibilities as the head coach, Burnett-Kurie will also teach in the Health and Exercise Science Department.
