Friday s game will take place at the National Sports Center in Blaine at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday the two teams will travel to St. Peter for a 2:00 p.m. faceoff. The Gusties enter with an early undefeated mark after two convincing wins last weekend on Don Roberts Ice Rink over Concordia- Wisconsin and 8-1 over St. Norbert. The Royals come in with a overall mark after a win and tie in the season-opening series against UW-Eau Claire and tying St. Olaf 3-3 in a non-conference match-up last Saturday. MEDIA COVERAGE: Friday s game between the Gusties and Royals will be broadcast live through Bethel s game portal. The Bethel Sports Information Department will provide live video and stats via Stretch Internet on the link provided above. Saturday s contest will also be broadcast live on Stretch Internet through the Gustavus Athletics website via the link above. Live stats will be provided as well. Jorgenson MEET THE COACHING STAFFS: Gustavus Head Coach Mike Carroll is in his 13th season at the helm for the Gusties. He has compiled an overall record of in 13 seasons on the bench and has the most coaching victories in the history of the program. Carroll, an Edina, Minn. native, competed in hockey and baseball at Minnesota State University-Mankato. After graduating with a degree in municipal recreation in 1982, Carroll played professional baseball in the Montreal Expos organization for two years. Carroll is assisted by Stephen Carroll (MSU-Mankato 81) - named one of the 10 greatest Mavericks in their men s hockey program; Kirstin Peterson (Gustavus 11), a three-time All-American for the Gustavus women s hockey program from ; and Matt Carroll, Mike s son. Brian Carlson is in his second year as head coach after leading the Royals to their best season performance to date. After posting a second place finish (tie) in conference play, the Royals won their first playoff contest in team history and advanced to the MIAC Championship game. Prior to his head coaching position, Carlson was an assistant coach with the team focusing primarily on the defense. Carlson has watched, played, and coached at various levels of hockey for many years prior to coming to Bethel. Coach Carlson is assisted by Mitch Baker (Bethel 08) and his son, Neal Carlson (Bethel 07). ABOUT BETHEL: The women s hockey program at Bethel has slowly been on the rise in the conference standings over the past five years. The Royals finished in eighth place in the MIAC in the season with a league record and progressively climbed up the rankings over the next four years. Bethel took third place last season with a conference mark and reached the MIAC Championship for the first time in program history. The Royals returned five players who earned conference honors last season. Defender Anna Carlson, forwards Biz Huss and Cristina Masten, and goaltender Jess Newstrom each received All-MIAC recognition, while Rachael Geng earned honorable mention. Masten was also named to the six-player All-Rookie team. Through three games this season, Masten and Carlson lead the team with five points each. Masten leads the team with three goals and two assists, while Carlson has a team-leading five assists. Newstrom has played in two of the three games this year in goal and has allowed three goals with 59 saves for a goals against average of FAB FROSH: It s still early in the season, but by the way it looks the Gusties are primed for spectacular individual play for the next four years. Three first-years in particular have made an early splash for the Three Crowns - Carolyn Draayer, Courtney Boucher and Kelly Thotland. Draayer leads the team with four goals and an assist through two games. The Deephaven, Minn. native posted two-goal games in both victories. Boucher also tallied a two-goal performance last Saturday and Thotland has a goal and assist to her credit.

3 PAGE 3 - GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE GOLDEN GUSTIE WOMEN S HOCKEY GAME NOTES- NOV ON THE DOTS: Through two games, the Gusties have dominated the dots winning 83-of-127 (.654) faceoffs. Allie Schwab has taken the faceoff role to new heights this season with 33-of-45 (.733) faceoffs won. She won 13-of-20 against Concordia and 20-of-26 against St. Norbert. THE ROYAL KILLER: Senior forward Allie Schwab has absolutely owned the Royals through her first three season wearing the black and gold. The Stillwater, Minn. native has scored six goals and an assist in eight-career games played against Bethel. She scored two goals in last year s MIAC Championship game and tallied one goal in four of the other seven games. GUSTIE DOMINANCE: That s the Gusties all-time series record against Bethel. Gustavus has never lost to the Royals since the rivaly began 13 years ago and has outscored Bethel 156-to-16 over 26 games. POLL POSITION: After two convincing victories last weekend, the Gusties jumped up one position in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) poll. Gustavus now ranks sixth in the nation after receiving 71 points. Bethel does not grace the national rankings this season, but the Royals finished last year s campaign No. 7 in the NCAA West Region. GOT GOALS?: For the first time in over a decade, the Gusties posted 15 goals in its first two games of the season. In the campaign, Gustavus swept UW-River Falls 9-1, 7-1 in the opening weekend and this past weekend the Three Crowns topped Concordia University 7-1 and St. Norbert 8-1 at Don Roberts Ice Rink to start to the season. Last weekend s victories also marked the first time since the season the Gusties posted 15 or more goals in a weekend homestand. WILD WILD WEST: A new media platform covering Division III hockey launched this year - D3hockey.com. And on Wednesday, the website touted Gustavus as the team to beat in the MIAC and a top contender in the NCAA West Region. As per the site, The Gusties have captured the last seven league crowns and in that time frame have racked up a conference record that includes three seasons without a loss. Smart money would pick Gustavus to continue in its winning ways.
