Thank you to all the people that shot the match and the guys who came out to watch. 200 Meter Cast Bullet Military Rifle Match 11 April 2010 by Juan Paco Today s match was won by Ernie Edmonston with a score of 28. 2 O. F. COWBOY MATCH Reported by Scott Davis Six shooters braved the elements (wind & threatening rain) to shoot this month s match. Ernie Lewis took top honors with a score of 29. Ernie used a Rossi.357 Magnum rifle shooting a 158 gr. jacketed bullet ahead of 16.5 gr. H-110. He was successful in taking 9 chickens, 9pigs, 3 turkeys, and 5 rams. Ernie Edmonston won AAA Class with a score of 22. After a three-way tie (sudden death shoot-off) for AA Class between Carroll Hargrove, Bob Beeson and Mike Russo, Carroll won with a score of 20. Saturday, April 17, 2010 Sorry guys rained out, but April showers bring May flowers (weeds?) COWBOY MATCH, Following a day of wind and rain where other matches were cancelled today showed up as a shooters dream. We had 16 shooters on hand including 6 from Clovis and 1 from Carlsbad. Bill Hamilton, the one from Carlsbad, shot both rifle and pistol although he was the only pistol shooter. In the end, Bill out shot all the rifle shooters, including his self, scoring 33 with his pistol. Not only did Bill Hamilton win his private pistol match, he beat me out in a tie for Over All Winner with a rifle, both having scored 31. Bill used a Marlin model 336 in caliber, a Lyman # bullet of about 180 gr. and 20.0 gr. of AA2230. This combination took 9 chickens, 9 pigs, 5 turkeys, and 8 rams. Turkeys are bad enough on the best of days, but seemed to make trouble for nearly everyone today. Getting beat in the shoot off, I took Master Class by default. Alan Bloomer won AAA Class with 30 with his Marlin carbine in st AA Class was won by Randy Dana with 26 while 2 nd AA went to Don Upham with 24. A Class went to Ernie Lewis with another.357 rifle and the score of 30. We had two junior shooters, both from Clovis. SOUTHEASTERN NM HI POWER RIFLE LEAGUE, May 15, 2010 By Jerry King When I arrived at the range at 6:55A.M., it was a very misty and overcast morning. Shooters started showing up after 7:30 A.M. We got the targets and everything set up and then I started signing everybody up. By the time we started shooting, it had stopped misting and there was no wind. It was a great morning to shoot. We had a fair turn out. We only had 8 shooters. We finish around 12:45 PM. The weather was great for shooting and there was a slight breeze with about 3-8 mph wind back at the 600 yard line. MATCH WINNERS Bill Rodolph Match Winner Bill Lamb Expert class winner MATCH SCORES 1. Bill Rodolph Bill Lamb Dave Crider Gary Shaver Steve Jones Phil Overly Scott Landry Jarrod Shaner RGC Bowling Pin Match 5/15/10 By Randy Dana For the past two months the weather prevented us from having the bowling pin match and today was questionable because of rain but Ernie pulled the steel tables out of the mud hole they were in and we decided to give it a go. Seven shooters came out but only four signed up for the Auto Pistol. Scott Davis had a malfunction and couldn t finish. Ernie Edmonston and I were trying but we couldn t keep up with Caveman Patterson who finished with a total time of 25.5 seconds. I finished second with a total time of 43.8 seconds. Alan Bloomer was giving Kevin Patterson some competition in the Revolver class but Kevin still got the job done and finished first with a total time of 41.6 seconds. Alan s total time with his monster gun was 49.1 seconds. Janet Bloomer, Kevin Patterson and I had a pretty tight race going in the.22 Auto class but someone had to stop the runaway train called Kevin. I pulled ahead on my second round and Kevin finished a close second place with 17.5 seconds total. My total time was 13.6 seconds. This was the first time we tried the.22 Revolver class and it was a character building experience to say the least. Kevin Patterson not only shot all his pins down faster than the rest of us but he also shot some dirt clods, some clay pigeons and then had to shoot two of my pins just so we could finish before the sun went down. Good shooting Kevin and maybe next month you ll have some better competition. Hope to see everyone next month, weather permitting! We start practice at 8:00 and the match starts around 9ish. Just ask Ernie about that! COWBOY MATCH, The berms were wet and muddy from the rain we had the last couple of days, but it was a fine day for shooting otherwise. There were 16 shooters out today, including some of our regulars from Clovis and Carlsbad. Bill Hamilton also shot his pistol just for the fun of it, but was unopposed and easily won. Alan Bloomer was in rare form today and won the Match with a pistol caliber rifle, a Marlin model 1894 in.357 Magnum. Alan scored on all 10 chickens, 9 pigs, 7 turkeys, and 8 rams for a total of 34. His load was a Lyman of about 158 gr. and 14.0 gr. of H108. Bill Hamilton won 1 st AAA Class with 31, and James Cravener won 2 nd AAA Class with st AA Class went to Randy Dana win the score of 30 while 2 nd AA was determined between Don Upham and John Hudson by a shoot off, both having socred 29. Don won. Ernie Lewis won A Class with the score of 29 and was also using a.357 Magnum rifle. The rest of us sure didn t break any records and we are going to say that we are too used to shooting in the wind! 4

Results Of the April matches are listed below. Date Relay Name Score X Gail Bennett Jim Pruett Lee Anderson Tim Rowland Don Froghle Jim Pruett Lee Anderson Conditions are improving so come and join us. Any good 22 rifle will get you started. Any questions call Jim I read receipts the same way I read science fiction, I get to the end and think, Well, that s not going to happen. DENNIS SULLIVAN 22 MATCH, It was fairly breezy before the Match and predicted to blow hard, so I didn t collect any match fees for fear of being blown out like we were next month. However, names were in 18 spaces on the score sheet and we shot. We were able to finish before the wind got real strong, but what we had was enough of a menace. There was only one shooter who broke 30 and that was our Carlsbad regular, Bill Hamilton. Bill shot both iron sight and scope class, winning both with 32 and nd place and AAA Winner in the Scope competition was Ernie Lewis with 29, and Janet Bloomer won AA Class with 23. Janet out shot her hubby Alan today who scored a whopping 19 compared to the 34 he shot last weekend. I was the only Master Class shooter using iron sights, so my 27 held up, Jim Pruett won AAA Class with 28, Sonny Odell won AA Class with 15, Susan Odell won A Class with 16, and Joel Costelo won Unclassified with 14. Hopefully, the wind will give us a break before summer is over and we can report more shooters and some better scores, but I would like to thank all the people that did show up today in spite of the wind. Cast Bullet Any Gun By Bill Kennedy, Match Director After three weekends on the road I showed up for the match at 6:45am and found a light fog holding off to just past the rams. Then the fog closed in and we could barely see the turkeys, but the wind came up before 9:00am and the fog lifted. The wind however gusted during the rest of the match. In all 17 shooter showed up for a good match. There were 10 iron sight shooters and 7 scope shooters. John Wostal took the Iron sight overall win using a Uberti High Wall

We had 7 scope shooters the king of the hill this month was Dave Farmer. Dave was using his Ruger #1 30 CBR shooting a 308 caliber 230 grain Hoch bullet with 19 grains RL-15. AAA-Class went to Carroll Hargrove with a 25, and Lee Jensen won AA-class with a 17. The other scope shooter was Bobby Beeson. To more great summer matches. NEW MOM ON RANGE Evidently, early in the morning of a pronghorn antelope decided to give birth right in the middle of range 4. There was shooting going on both range 3 and 5 and she would just stand there. When she did decide to move a little, the firing would stop until she moved out of the way. After about an hour of stubbornly hanging around, she got junior to his feet (the first we knew of him). He hobbled around a few minutes and then both wandered off as if it were an everyday occurrence. At last sight, mother and junior were safely out of danger with junior running and jumping without a care in the world. Special Cast Bullet Match By John Hudson Match Director Thirteen shooters showed-up on a somewhat windy weather day for our special Cast Bullet Match. This match is held whenever there is a Wednesday before a fifth Saturday. Alan Bloomer was overall winner in the Iron Sight Class with a score of 33. Alan was shooting a Ruger Model 77 in.308 Winchester. Master Class went to Ernie Edmonston with a 28. AAA-Class went to Scotty Davis with a 25, AA-class went to yours truly with a 6 FIFTH SATURDAY MATCH, As is generally the case when a fifth Saturday rolls around, we held a Pistol Caliber Cowboy Rifle Silhouette Match on the 200 meter range and today was no exception. However, it being a holiday weekend and a gun show in Ruidoso, attendance was down to 9 shooters. It was a little breezy, but not nearly as bad as we have experienced the past couple of months. Alan Bloomer is still hotter than a two-dollar pistol and won the Match with the score of 30, all 10 chickens, 7 rams, 8 turkeys, and 5 rams. Alan used his trusty Marlin model 1895 chambered in.357 Magnum, a Lyman cast bullet of about 158 gr. and 14.0 gr. of H-108. James Cravener was the AAA Class winner with 28, John Hudson won AA Class with 27, and Ernie Lewis won A Class with 27. Those left holding the stinky end of the stick included Mike Russo, Randy Dana, Sonny Odell, and me. Lee Jensen left early due to equipment problems. 5th SUNDAY, 500 METER, MILITARY RIFLE SILHOUETTE By James Cravener, Match Director Today started out nice and calm with 5 shooters present. We lost one because of a case separation resulting in a minor eye injury and another because the wind was picking up. Three of us stayed and braved it out. I was the overall winner with 3 turkeys and 3 pigs shooting a Krag, a 200 gr. cast bullet from Norm Purcella and 23.0 gr Alan Bloomer took AAA Class with 5 and Randy Dana took AA. Hopefully it won t be blowing the next time, but it s looking doubtful here anymore, Health nuts are going to feel stupid some day lying in a hospital bed dying of nothing.

7 class with a 30. The other scope shooters included James Cravener, Jim Byrd, Bill Kennedy, and yours truly. to more special or holiday matches this summer. Remember Our Country s Heroes on Memorial Day. FOUND On the morning of I found a magazine for a U. S. 30 caliber carbine on the range. Call Ernie at , tell me where you left it, and I ll get it back to you. HONESTY Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, everyone else in the class laughed. My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork, and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again. A Reminder Vacation is here and the kids are out of school. We want everyone to have a safe and great summer so you can continue coming out to shoot every week. Memorial Day Special Cast Bullet Match By John Hudson Match Director Twelve shooters showed-up for our special Memorial Day Cast Bullet Match. Obviously, there are club members who would rather shoot than BBQ, and the thought of a cast bullet match was magnetic. In the Scope Class, Ernie Lewis was overall winner with a score of 34. Master Class went to Bill Hamilton with a 28 and AAA-Class went to Randy Dana with a 32. There were no other scope shooters. We had eight Iron Sight shooters, and Bill Hamilton took overall with a 31. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders". Guess where I am now... 7
