BU and UCA are meeting for the first time, but BU is vs. current Southland Conference teams. BU has won 11 consecutive season openers by an average of 29.1 points. Drew is 13-1 in openers. BU is ranked No. 24 in the preseason AP Top 25, the 6th preseason ranking in program history. Baylor returns six letterwinners from last season s 27-8 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team. Four players on the Baylor roster have not yet played at BU (Leonard Allen, Tristan Clark, Tyson Jolly and Mark Vital), but Jolly and Vital practiced with the team while redshirting last season. Baylor has won 43 consecutive non-conference home games, the nation s 2nd-longest streak (Duke, 132). Baylor is one of 12 teams to be nationally ranked in each of the last 10 seasons entering The Bears are coming off a school-record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Head coach Scott Drew enters his 15th season at Baylor as the school s all-time wins leader (277). Six Baylor players have been selected in the last six NBA Drafts, 10th-most nationally. Drew (46) is the youngest of nine coaches to take his current program to four Sweet 16s since Baylor s 152 wins since are second-most in the Big 12 behind only Kansas (179). Baylor has knocked off 18 ranked teams over the last three seasons (18-17 vs. ranked opponents). Drew has won 20+ games in a school-record six consecutive seasons and nine of the last 10 years. Baylor went in football, men s basketball and women s basketball in , the nation s best combined record in those sports for a second straight season (68-17 in ). BU was picked 5th in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll behind Kansas, West Virginia, TCU and Texas. Baylor is since , the first year Drew s staff had a full allotment of scholarships. Baylor is over the last six seasons, averaging 25.3 wins per season since Baylor has won 88% of its games when leading at the half since (118-16). Manu Lecomte is the Big 12 s top returning scorer at 12.2 points per game. He was named 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned All-Big 12 Third Team recognition. Baylor has had a nation-leading four players selected in the NBA Draft since 2010 who weren t ranked in the ESPN100 out of high school Quincy Acy, Ekpe Udoh, Pierre Jackson and Taurean Prince. In Drew s first 14 seasons, 34 players have gone on to professional careers. BU has graduated 93 percent of its scholarship seniors since Drew took over in 2003 (27 of 29). Drew is coaching his 458th game at Baylor ( ). His.606 winning percentage is best in BU history among coaches with 40+ games, and his teams have a.686 winning percentage since Baylor has the Big 12 s 2nd-longest active streak with at least one 3-point FG made in 835 straight games. Baylor went 15-1 against non-big 12 teams last season, including nine wins over NCAA Tournament teams. NATION S 2ND-LONGEST NON-CONFERENCE HOME WINNING STREAK Baylor has won 43 consecutive non-conference home games, which is the nation s 2nd-longest active streak. The only team with a longer non-conference home winning streak is Duke (132). Baylor s last non-conference home loss was Dec. 4, 2012, a loss to Northwestern. EXPERIENCE ACROSS ROSTER Baylor s roster features 12 players who are at least 20 years old, and six of the 13 roster players are at least 22. Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. and Nuni Omot are both 23 years old, while Leonard Allen, Manu Lecomte, Terry Maston and Jonathan Davis are all 22 years old. The only player under age 20 on the BU roster is true freshman Tristan Clark. King McClure and Mark Vital are both 21 years old, and Jake Lindsey turns 21 on Nov. 15. SUCCESS IN SEASON OPENERS Baylor is 13-1 in season openers during the Scott Drew era, with the lone loss coming at Texas Tech in , when the Bears did not play a non-conference schedule. Baylor has won its last 11 season openers dating back to by an average of 29.1 points per game. All 11 of those season-opening wins were by at least 12 points, with the win over Colorado the closest (72-60). PICKED FIFTH IN BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL Baylor was picked to finish fifth in the 2018 Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll in a vote by the league s head coaches in October. 3 NO. 24 IN BOTH PRESEASON POLLS Baylor was ranked No. 24 in the preseason AP Top 25 and the preseason coaches poll. This marks the sixth time in the last eight years that Baylor has been ranked in the preseason AP Top (16th), (12th), (19th), (25th), (22nd) and (24th). The Bears didn t receive a single vote in either preseason poll last year and climbed to No. 1 on Jan. 9, FOUR PLAYERS AWAIT BAYLOR DEBUTS Four Baylor players are eligible to make their Division I debuts this season, though only two will debut Friday. Tristan Clark and Mark Vital are both expected to play in Friday s season opener. Tyson Jolly are Leonard Allen are both being held out due to medical concerns.
