NEBRASKA Monday s game will be the 17th meeting alltime between Ohio State and Nebraska. Ohio State stopped Nebraska s fi ve-game win streak in the series in 2015 and has since won the last fi ve meetings. The Buckeyes lead the series 6-5 since Nebraska joined the conference in Ohio State has a 5-3 lead in the series at home, winning each of the last two meetings at the Schott. With the win last year, OSU has taken a 4-3 edge in the games played in Lincoln with the last three wins all coming by double digits. The 39 points OSU scored in the game on Feb. 14, 2013 were the fewest points scored by Ohio State in a Big Ten game. MCGUFF VS. NEBRASKA Head coach Kevin McGuff is 5-2 in his meetings against Nebraska. He lost in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament in College Park, Md., when he was coaching at Xavier. He also lost his fi rst meeting with Nebraska as Ohio State s coach in Since then, McGuff and the Buckeyes have won the last fi ve games in the series, including the last two contests in Columbus. LAST YEAR VS. NEBRASKA The Buckeyes opened Big Ten play last season with a victory at Nebraska on Dec. 28. Kelsey Mitchell, who scored a game-high 25 points, and Stephanie Mavunga combined to score the Buckeyes fi nal nine points in the last three minutes to seal the 12-point win. Mavunga grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go with her eight points. Senior Asia Doss scored nine points, grabbed a season-high tying six rebounds and snatched a career-high seven steals. Linnae Harper scored four of her 14 points at the start of the fourth quarter to stem a Nebraska run and keep the Buckeyes lead in double-digits. Sierra Calhoun made three three-pointers and fi nished with 13 points. The Buckeyes went on a 14-1 run midway through the fi rst quarter to open up a 12-point lead. The scoring slowed in the second quarter as the teams combined for just 21 points. Ohio State, paced by 13 points from Mitchell, led at halftime. The Buckeyes came out of the break and shot 56 percent in the third quarter to open up as much as a 19-point advantage in the third quarter. At the start of the fourth, the Huskers would go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to with 7:20 to play. Nebraska got within eight on a couple of occasions but Mitchell hit a three and Mavunga had a lay-in to end the Huskers threat. BUCKEYES WIN LAST 3 IN LINCOLN The last three trips to Lincoln have been enjoyable trips for the Buckeyes. The won the fi rst two contests by 18, winning in 2015 and in They then came away with an 12-point win The win in 2015 was especially sweet because it came on the fi nal day of the regular season which was also Senior Day. A crowd of over 8,400 was loud and raucous all game but the Buckeyes were able to whether each run and pulled away down the stretch. Kelsey Mitchell led four Buckeyes in double-fi gures with 28 points and a season-high tying 10 rebounds. Shayla Cooper scored 13 points to go along with a career-high 18 rebounds. Asia Doss had the best game of her freshman season as she was 4-of-5 from long range and fi nished with a season-high 14 points. The 2017 game was dominated by the Buckeyes throughout as Mitchell led the way again with 27 points on 5-of-9 from long range. Cooper also had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds in the win. In 2018, the Buckeyes went on a 14-1 run in the fi rst quarter to take control and led the whole way. Nebraska stayed within striking distance most of the way but Mitchell and Stephanie Mavunga combined to score the Buckeyes fi nal nine points in the last three minutes to seal the 12-point win. 3

THE HOKIES Freshman Dorka Juhász had struggled with her outside shot early in the season but she found the range vs. Virginia Tech on Dec. 21. Juhasz made all three of her three-point attempts and was 10-of-14 shooting overall to fi nish with a season-high 27 points. The Hungary native also made all four of her free throws to go along with eight rebounds and a season-high tying two assists. DEFENSIVE BATTLES Head coach Kevin McGuff runs a style of offense that doesn't usually yield low-scoring affairs. But the victory over Florida on Dec. 16 was just that. The 46 points were tied for the second-fewest in a victory for any McGuff coached team. His Xavier squad won against Saint Joseph's on Jan. 28, The 46 points were also the fourth-fewest in a victory in Ohio State history and the second-fewest in the NCAA era (since 1982). Ohio State beat Illinois on Jan. 17, DEFENSIVE WINS GAMES At the end of the day, the old adage of "Defensive Wins Championships" usually always proves accurate. While they certainly didn't win any championship, the Buckeyes played hard scrappy defense vs. Florida on Dec. 16 and it allowed them to overcome a tough shooting afternoon. Ohio State shot just 29.3 percent for the game. Since 1999, that was just the 13th game in which the Buckeyes shot under 30 percent. But thanks to its defense, which held Florida to 24.6 percent shooting for the game, Ohio State was able to come away with the victory. Since 1999, that was the first game in which OSU shot under 30 percent and still came away with the W. JUHÁSZ EARNS NATIONAL FOW HONORS Dorka Juhász picked-up not only Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 3 but national FOW accolades after leading the Buckeyes to a pair of victories. She averaged 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in wins over North Carolina and Cincinnati. The Pecs, Hungary native had 18 points and 16 rebounds vs. UNC and then notched gamehighs of 17 points and 13 rebounds vs. UC. Juhász is the fi rst Buckeye to earn the Big Ten's FOW honors since Tori McCoy on Dec. 12, 2016 and the fi rst to earn the national honor since Kelsey Mitchell in JUHÁSZ OFF TO A GOOD START Freshman Dorka Juhász has started her career with double-doubles in four of her fi rst fi ve games. She is averaging team bests of 11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She has had games of 18-points and 16 rebounds vs. North Carolina and 27 points and eight rebounds vs. Virginia Tech. DIGGING OUT OF A 14 POINT HOLE The Buckeyes fell behind by 14 points early 4 against North Carolina but dug themselves out of that hole and would win the game on Nov. 29. The 14-point defi cit overcome was the largest margin overcome in a game since coming back from a 16-point hole at Purdue on Jan. 15, SNAPPING A LOSING SKID The Buckeyes had a big win over North Carolina on Nov. 29 and that win snapped a skid for the Buckeyes in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Ohio State had lost six-consecutive games in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge before the win over the Tar Heels. Overall, that was just the Buckeyes third win in the challenge as they are 3-9 in the 12 years of the event. CANCELED WEST COAST TRIP With poor air quality in Northern California due to the wildfi res across the region in mid-november, Ohio State canceled both of its games at Sacramento State (Nov. 16) and at Stanford (Nov. 18). Ohio State will work with both teams to try and reschedule the games sometime next season. This left a large gap between games for the Buckeyes who had 17 days between their third and fourth games of the season. NEW BUT OLD Despite eight new names on the roster this season, the Buckeyes boast an experienced group. Six of the team s 12 players have already received their undergraduate degrees and are in their fi fth year in school. The six players with undergraduate degrees are the most on one roster of any team in the country. Ohio State graduate Makayla Waterman (Psychology) is joined by graduate transfers Carmen Grande (mathematical science), Adreana Miller (international marketing), Najah Queenland (biology), Ashanti Abshaw (communications management) and Carly Santoro (communication disorders) are all work on their masters degrees this season. REPLACING A BUNCH OF SCORING Coming into this season, Ohio State is not only looking to replace all fi ve starters but 93.7 percent of its scoring from last season. That is the highest percentage of scoring lost by any team in the country. Kelsey Mitchell, the NCAA s No. 2 all-time leading scorer, accounted for a large part of that scoring at 24.3 points per game. The Buckeye starting fi ve last season averaged more points (74.8) than any starting fi ve in the country. However, four current Buckeyes averaged 10 or more points per game last season Abshaw (19.2 ppg), Grande (11.5), Miller (13.6 ppg) and Santoro (12.8 ppg). Carmen Grande averaged 11.5 points and was second in the country last year at 9.2 assists per game.

RECAPPING THE PURDUE GAME Ohio State made a couple of late runs but Purdue had the fi nal answer as the Boilermakers pulled away late for a victory in the Big Ten opener for each team on Dec. 28. Carmen Grande had a second-consecutive solid game leading the Buckeyes with 11 points and six assists. Najah Queenland made a pair of threes and fi nished with seven points while Carly Santoro and Makayla Waterman each chipped-in with six points. Purdue was able to put the game away with a 13-1 run over the fi nal 6:56. The Buckeyes made just one free throw and had fi ve turnovers during that closing stretch. Ohio State had a tough time fi nding the target in the early going, shooting just 25 percent in the fi rst quarter. But they forced fi ve Purdue turnovers and trailed just after the fi rst. The Buckeyes had two different possessions early in the second quarter when they could have taken a lead but each time, Purdue answered with a run. The second run was a 13-0 spurt that pushed the lead out to 14 and the Boilermakers would lead at the half. Purdue scored the fi rst four points of the third quarter but the Buckeyes answered with threes from Waterman and Queenland to get back to within seven at Each team traded runs throughout the rest of the quarter and the Purdue lead remained after three. The Boilermakers could have put the game away early in the fourth but missed a couple of inside shots and the Buckeyes capitalized as a wing three by Queenland cut the lead to with just under seven minutes to play. But that would be the last Buckeye fi eld goal as Purdue took control and came away with the win. GRANDE DISHES NO. 700 Graduate transfer Carmen Grande notched 700th career assist on Nov. 9, vs. Detroit Mercy. She has had 24 games of 10-plus assists in her career. Since 2005, Ohio State has had a player record 10 or more assists in a games just 24 times, matching Grande s total over her last three seasons. Her 747 total assists are more than any other active DI men s or women s player in the country. 5 MILESTONE WATCH Carmen Grande - 18 three-pointers from 100 in her career points from 1,000 in her career Carly Santoro - 31 points from 1,000 in her career Makayla Waterman - 90 rebounds from 500 in her career GRANDE ON LIEBERMAN PRESEASON WATCH LIST Point guard Carmen Grande was one of 20 players named to the Nancy Lieberman Preseason Watch List this season. Grande is the NCAA's active career assists leader with 747 and is averaging 5.0 assists per game this season. ABSHAW OUT FOR THE SEASON Graduate transfer Ashanti Abshaw suffered a torn ACL in practice on Oct. 21 and she will miss the season. Abshaw transferred to Ohio State this summer after playing at Cleveland State the last four seasons. She was a three-time All-Horizon League honoree and has averaged more than 17 points per game in her career. Abshaw completed her degree in communications management from Cleveland State last spring and is working on her master s degree in workforce development here at Ohio State. LONG BREAKS The Buckeyes had two unusually long breaks during the fi rst two months of the season. The fi rst was supposed to be 11 days but with the cancellation of the west coast trip to play Sacramento State and Stanford, the Buckeyes had 17 days between their game at UConn and hosting North Carolina. That break came over Thanksgiving Weekend which allowed the Buckeyes to be without a game during Thanksgiving week for the fi rst time in 14 years. The second break occurred around fi nal exams and also came on the heels of a trip to the west coast. After playing Washington on Dec. 5, the Buckeyes didn't return to action until after exams on Dec. 16 against Florida. These breaks will hopefully come in handy for a new team looking to solidify itself heading into conference play. The B1G schedule was expanded from 16 to 18 games this season and the Buckeyes bye week doesn t come until the fi nal week of the regular season.

6 MCGUFF SIGNS A TOP 3 CLASS Head coach Kevin McGuff knew signing a strong 2019 class was going to be crucial and he and his staff hit a home run, signing a top-5 class according to multiple outlets. The Buckeyes inked four players who all received a fi ve-star rating according to ESPN HoopGurlz rankings as well as one of the top international prospects. Kierstan Bell (No. 6) and Jacy Sheldon (No. 41) were 1-2 in Ohio's Miss Basketball voting last season. Rikki Harris (No. 24) is a 5-9 guard from Indianapolis who may have been even higher in the rankings if her junior season wasn't cut short due to injury. Kaelynn Satterfi eld, a tall athletic win, led Christ the King to a No. 1 national ranking last season and a 29-1 record. Aixa Wone is a 6-2 forward from Barcelona, Spain. She was a top international prospects in the 2018 class but elected to play this season as an amateur for one of the top club teams in Barcelona and will join the Buckeyes for next season. MAGIC NUMBER 70 Head coach Kevin McGuff s style of fast paced offense leads to more possessions and hopefully more points. Since he took over at the start of the season, the Buckeyes are when scoring at least 80 points and when scoring at least 70 points. Year <70 pts >70 pts >80 pts >90pts Totals SHARING THE LOVE Under head coach Kevin McGuff, the Buckeyes have dished-out 20 or more assists in a game 31 times and are 30-1 in those games.
