It may be worth reaching out to him and his organization to explain the Unified Sports Program KW/SF Steve Fuller and Todd Nelson will act as point persons on all out of district sponsor opportunities. Any money received through Special Olympics and/or the NYSPHSAA (approx. $2, this year) must be considered seed money. Should schools wish to continue this initiative next year it should be a budgeted item in your budget.
2 4) Reviewing our end game 1) Setting practice and game rules Draft below much discussion more to come BD/SP/DF 2) State conference call meeting to set handbook rules for Unified Sports Todd Nelson indicated that there is a state wise conference call planned with reps. from each section. He also recommended less restrictive rules than our draft listed. 3) Recruiting an advisor, recruiting the coach Up to each school 5) Process and timing of the roll out. Who will be doing what and when Confirmation of teams and completion of the Team Application form ASAP, with financial estimates by November 1. Nate will forward the forms to Denny and he will distribute to confirmed schools. (Done: 10/12/2014) 6) Negotiating the game fee with officials: Sandy Swingle Sandy will discuss with the Board 60 officials and get back to Denny 7) School (district) commitments so far (19): Batavia, Brighton, Brockport, Churchville, East Irondequoit, East Rochester, Fairport, Gates, Greece (2), HFL, Kendall, Penfield, Pittsford, Rush Henrietta, Spencerport, Webster, East and Edison. 8) Continuing discussion of best practices for initiating this program To November meeting 9) Discussion and emphasis on respective schools Youth Activation Committee and NYSPHSAA Youth Summit. (More in November) 10) Funding and Fund raising Schools can fund raise for their respective schools like PTSA, booster clubs but all program related sponsorships will go through Steve Fuller and Todd Nelson. 11) Next steps: 1) continue to work on draft of practice and game rules; 2) begin to connect with coaches and YAC advisers. 12) Assignments: Nate: Adapt and send to Denny the School Application Form (Done); Sandy will advise concerning officials fee; schools must complete and to Nate and Denny the School Application Form ASAP. 13) Next meeting: Suggestions: Tues., Nov. 4, 2014 at Gates Chili Adjourned: 1:15 df: 10/9/2014

4 MONROE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL ATHLETIC CONFERENCE Unified Basketball Rules (Draft ) GAME RULES, Philosophy and Program Goals
5 MCPSAC, INC Unified Basketball Program PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY Grade:Students in grades 9-12 Team on floor game make up: 3 athletes, 2 partners at all times Program Goals It is expected that the Unified Sports Basketball initiative will be conducted in a positive environment. Characteristics of such and environment are: 1. All athletes will be treated, and treat each other, in a respectful manner. 2. Basic skills, fundamentals and good athletic attitudes are to be stressed above all else. 3. Adult participation and supervision must be positive and supportive at all times. 4. Self-discipline and teamwork must be stressed. 5. Coaches must be caring and treat the athletes with equal fairness. 6. Winning is kept in perspective and not over-emphasized. 7. Officials and opponents must always be treated with respect. 8. Parents should be oriented as to his/her proper role. 9. Safety is a major concern. 10. If you have had fun, you have won!!! Protocol at Games: Each team gets a minimum of 15 minutes to warm-up upon arrival on the field/court. Coaches will meet prior to the game to exchange match up cards. All players will review sportsmanship instructions prior to/and during every game. Coaches and Players will model good sportsmanship at all times with officials, opponents, parents, and teammates/players. All game officials and scores will meet with both coaches prior to starting the game to get acquainted and agree on all protocols and procedures. Coaches must adhere to agree upon match-ups during the game. If a problem arises, stop the game and straighten it out. Any protest must be noted in the official scorebook at the time of the violation. The coaches will enforce good bench conduct at all times. Players will line up and shake hands after every game (with coaches supervising) Coaches are expected to silence unsportsmanlike conduct or rude parents (from their home school). Stop it right away!

Four quarter games (with overtime if necessary). 2. Two - three separate but equal teams will be created. 3. One team will play in period one (1). 4. Other team(s) will play in periods two (2) and possibly three (3) 5. A player who plays in period one (1) is NOT eligible to play in period two (2). 6. All players are eligible to play in periods three (3) and four (4) unless agreed to by the coaches during their pre-game discussions. 7. A player may NOT play in more than three periods. 8. Every player should expect to play 6 game minutes per game.? 9. Coaches are to meet prior to fourth period to agree on appropriate match-ups.? Miscellaneous 1. Defense: Any defense (M/M, zone, etc.) may be used 2. Pressing: Teams may press at any time during the game the last two minutes of the game. 3. Shot clock and 3 point shot 4. Overtime As specified in the handbook 5. Time Outs: As specified in the handbook * 4 Regular time-outs per contest, 1 30 second timeout per half (cannot be carried over from 1 st to 2 nd half). 6. Skill Challenge (3 skills): Spot shooting; dribbling and passing Scrimmage rules (NYSPHSAA) Boys and Girls: A basketball scrimmage must include ten (10) minute time periods with running time (except time-outs) and unlimited time outs. The score will be cleared at the end of the time period and the time will be reset. Scrimmages must also include one or more of the following. 1.Optional shot clock 2.Shoot only fouls against the shooter with free throws awarded in a one plus one. 3.At the end of the first (1st) and third (3rd) quarters, each team will run five (5) special plays. Example: out-of-bounds play underneath the basket: sideline out-of-bounds. 33. BASKETBALL (NYSPHSAA) 35 second shot clock. The game will consist of 4 quarters of (8) minutes each Intermission will be one (1) minute after the (1st) and (3rd) quarter 2 - ½ s of 16 minutes with a stop clock and ten (10) minutes at the half for Skills Challenge. Extra periods shall be four (4) minutes in length.
