Austin (2-0) will be looking to run its record to 3-0 for the first time since the season and just the second time since the turn of the century. The Lumberjacks, 1-0 on the road, will play Texas in their second of a four-game road stretch on Friday, Nov. 15. SFA is 0-5 all-time against the Longhorns since the two schools first met back in The Jacks last squared of with UT in the season, falling in a televised game on the Longhorn Sports Network (Nov. 23). Texas (2-0) has had a pair of come from behind victories to open the season inside the Frank C. Erwin Center. The Longhorns faced a nine-point deficit (62-53) with 9:44 remaining in the second half during the season opener against Mercer (Nov. 8) and trailed by as much as 17 points (45-28) with 1:28 left in the opening half on Tuesday night against South Alabama. Austin men s basketball team knocked off Texas State to spoil the debut of former head coach Danny Kaspar Tuesday night inside Strahan Coliseum. SFA (2-0) picked up its first win over the Bobcats (0-2) since the two schools last met as conference opponents in the season and first over Kaspar, who departed back in April. Win the win, the `Jacks also remain undefeated under new head coach Brad Underwood. UP NEXT SFA continues its four-game road stretch, leaving Texas to take part in the Roundball Classic. The Jacks will face Marshall in Huntington, WV, on Nov. 21, before facing East Tennessee two days later in Johnson City, TN. 5 Game 1: Stephen F. Austin vs UT - Tyler (Nov. 8, 2013) NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Junior forward Jacob Parker and senior Nikola Gajic both recorded career-high and the Stephen F. Austin men s basketball team placed three Lumberjacks in double-figures, as head coach Brad Underwood picked up his first win at the helm in a victory over UT-Tyler Friday night inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. Parker recorded 19 points to surpass his old mark of 16 set last season, while Gajic s 14 marks his first double-digit scoring performance of his career at SFA (1-0). Senior Desmond Haymon joined Parker and Gajic, recording 17 points, respectively. Gajic finished one rebound off his first double-double of his career, hauling in nine boards. The `Jacks hit better than 50 percent of its shots from the field, as SFA improved to 3-0 all-time against the Patriots (0-1) and 10-4 in its last 14 season openers. The `Jacks outscored UT-Tyler in the paint, while holding a 24-7 advantage in points off turnovers. SFA also recorded 16 more points than the opponent (20-4) in second-chance opportunities. Sophomore Thomas Walkup gave the `Jacks an early lead on a layup in the second minute of play (18:30), before the Patriots tied it 2-2 with one of their own 14 seconds later. The early tie would be the only of the match, as SFA built its lead to double-figures with a pair of free throws from Parker to make it with 6:02 to play in the first half. Over the remaining six minutes, the `Jacks closed out the half on a run to take a lead at the break. In the second half, SFA built its lead to 23 points (70-47) on a pair of free throws from Haymon at the 9:34 mark. The `Jacks then went on a run the rest of the way to arrive at the outcome. SFA will now head to Texas State to take on former head coach Danny Kaspar in his first year with the Bobcats. Parker s presence under the basket reflected in the stat line, with five boards on either side of the ball. Walker finished two off of Parker, with eight rebounds (three offensive, five defensive), as the Jacks led TXST in nearly every offensive category. SFA outscored the Bobcats off the bench, while holding a margin in points off of turnovers. The `Jacks opened the match on a 13-5 run, with 10 points combined between Walkup and Parker through the first six minutes. The lead would span the remainder of the half, but TXST closed on a run to pull within two at at the half.
