Gebhart, Herold Named First Team All-Big Ten Laura Gebhart: - Fourth-straight first team All-Big Ten selection, the only player in program history to do so and the sixth in Big Ten field hockey history. - Team captain goals and 25 points are season-highs. Taylor Herold: - Second Big Ten honor, earning second team recognition in Team leader with 17 goals and 41 points. - 10th nationally with 0.85 goals per game. Big Ten All-Tournament Team Senior captains Laura Gebhart and Katie Andrews (Lancaster, Pa.) were named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team on Nov. 9. Andrews led a strong defensive effort, helping the Nittany Lions blank Michigan State in the opening round on Nov. 6 for the squad s sixth shutout of the season. Then, Andrews and the defense held No. 2 Maryland to just 14 shots in the semifinals on Nov. 7, almost eight less than its season average of 21.9 coming into the game. The Terrapins, who averaged 4.42 goals per game coming into the contest, only found the back of the cage once. Gebhart scored s only goal in the Big Ten Tournament, coming against Michigan State. It was Gebhart s third selection of her career. Herold Moving up Goals List Senior Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) reached the 100-point mark with a goal and two assists at Ohio State (Sept. 28), to reach the 100 career point mark. She now has 51 goals and 16 assists for her career, giving her 118 career points. Her 51 goals are ninth on s all-time list. She passed head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss, who had 50 at, with a goal against Northwestern on Oct. 31. Herold is four goals away from being tied for eighth with 55. Gebhart on the Assist Currently, Gebhart has 45 assists, which is one away from tying her for seventh on Penn State s all-time list and two from tying her for sixth. She is tied for the team lead with seven assists and is second with 10 goals on the season. Her 27 points are second on the team. Herold on SportsCenter Top 10 Herold scored an impressive behind-theback, no-look backhand goal against Rutgers on Oct. 17. The scored earned the No. 6 spot on SportsCenter s Top 10 plays. Herold s Heroics Herold posted three goals, all in the second half, against No. 14 Princeton on Sept. 12. It marked her first career hat trick. Against Ohio State (Sept. 28), she had a career-high two assists. Scoring a goal in 10 of the last 13 games, she is first on the team with 41 points and 17 goals, while being tied for the lead with seven assists. Herold has four multi-goal games this season. The senior ranks 10th nationally in goals per game (0.85). Gebhart with the Hat Trick Gebhart has started all 83 games she has played in since arriving on campus as a freshman. Against Bucknell (Oct. 14), the senior had her first career hat trick, scoring all three goals in the first 18:46 of the game. The Katies Hold Down the Defense Senior backs Katie Andrews and Katie Breneman (Washington Boro, Pa.) lead a defense that is 10th nationally with a 1.24 goals against average. Breneman has started 61 games in her career and Andrews has started 50. This season, Andrews has played 70-plus minutes on 19 occasions, while Breneman has done it 18 times in 20 games. The unit has recorded six shutouts this season. Atop the Attendance List is third nationally in total attendance this season, having 4,321 fans watch its home games, averaging 432 per contest. The only teams ahead of are Michigan at No. 2 and Maryland at No. 1. Coming up with Corners The Nittany Lions ranked seventh nationally with 7.70 penalty corners per game. The squad has had 12 or more on four separate occasions, including a season-high 16 against Lock Haven. Breneman Earns Big Ten Weekly Honors Breneman was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 4. Breneman led a defense that held No. 8 Northwestern to just one goal in a 2-1 win on Oct. 31. The Wildcats came into the game averaging 3.00 goals per game and ranked 11th nationally in points per game (8.65). She also helped hold Northwestern, a team that came in averaging 17.9 shots per game, to just five shots. Big Ten Weekly Honors Redshirt senior goalkeeper Kylie Licata (Mountain Top, Pa.) was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice this season. Most recently, she made a career-high 14 saves at No. 3 UConn and shut out Quinnipiac to earn the honor on Sept. 9. Licata earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 2), while back Cori Conley (Oak Park, Ill.) was named Freshman of the Week following

Conley played a key role defensively, helping a unit that held Virginia scoreless in a game for the first time since Chrismer Capitalizing Senior Jenna Chrismer (Mountain Top, Pa.) has been impressive offensively. Most recently, Chrismer tallied two goals at Ohio State. Prior to that, she posted a career-high two assists against No. 14 Princeton (Sept. 12) before tying her personal best with two goals vs. Lafayette (Sept. 14). She scored each of the team s goals in the 2-1 win over Old Dominion (Aug. 29), before tallying an assist against Virginia (Aug. 31) and at Quinnipiac (Sept. 7). She is third on the team with nine goals and 23 points. 4 2014 PENN STATE FIELD HOCKEY P. 4 Buttinger Breaks Out Redshirt senior Natalie Buttinger (Kitchener, Ontario) scored the first two goals of her career in the 3-0 win over No. 6 Virginia. Postseason Fixture The Nittany Lions return after making the NCAA Tournament field each of the last four seasons. has been at the top of the Big Ten in those seasons as well, being named co-conference regular season champions in 2013 and the outright winner in The squad won the Big Ten Tournament in 2011 and Excelling with Experience brings back six starters and three of its top six scorers from a season ago. The squad returns two 2013 Big Ten first team members in Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) and Kylie Licata (Mountain Top, Pa.), while Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.), who garnered second team honors, also returns. Herold led with 30 points (13 goals, four assists) last year. Gebhart was a 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I second team All-American. Preseason Accolades Seniors Katie Breneman (Washington Boro, Pa.), Gebhart and Herold were each named to the 2014 Big Ten Field Hockey Players to Watch List. Remaining Elite in the Rankings The Nittany Lions were selected No. 8 in the 2014 Penn Metro/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll. 6 2014 PENN STATE FIELD HOCKEY P. 6 Charlene MORETT-CURTISS 28th Season at 31st Season Overall, 1979 The longest tenured coach in the Big Ten and the sixth-longest tenured at a single school in Division I field hockey history, Charlene Morett-Curtiss enters her 28th season as head coach of the field hockey program in Morett-Curtiss boasts a remarkable resume covering her time as the leader of the Nittany Lions. Over the last six years, Morett-Curtiss has led the Nittany Lions to three Big Ten regular season titles, two Big Ten Tournament championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. Morett-Curtiss currently ranks fifth all-time in Division I history in wins with 458 and is one of just six DI coaches to accumulate 400 career wins. She has led the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Tournament in 24 of her 27 years as head coach of and has helped maintain s distinction as the No. 3 ranked school in alltime NCAA Tournament appearances with 29. A seven-time NFHCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year, Morett- Curtiss is an excellent teacher of field hockey. Her players earn national recognition on a yearly basis, 11 of whom have been named two-time first team All-Americans with Kelsey Amy being the most recent. Her teams dominate the national scene, consistently ranking among the Top 10 in the national polls. was ranked in the Top 10 of the STX/NFHCA poll for 32 consecutive weeks from the first poll of the 2005 season ending with the second poll of The squad achieved a No. 1 ranking in the STX/NFHCA poll for the first time in program history.
