Pulse Hands Players hold hands straight across from one another and move hands lightly up and down to the beat. Cross Hands Players continue to hold hands, one partner crosses right over left while partner crosses left under, etc. Palm Push Think of this as an extension of the Clap Own so that once you clap your own hands, you keep the fingertips and thumb together and push the palm out towards partner. Two players create an apple tree. One player is inside the circle facing the other player outside the circle. These two players have palms touching above the circle. While singing, circle moves clockwise, the tree lowers hands capturing a player on the word, out. Captured player becomes part of the tree and stands beside one of the original tree players, holding hands up to meet an imaginary partner. Tap Floor Pass R or L Tap Floor Pass R or L Tap Floor Pass R or L Tap Floor Pass R or L There are several versions of this song, sometimes spelled, Mbombela or Bombela. Children sing this song in anticipation of reuniting with their families as the train returns home Thanks to C. Mkunde and E. Skiff for help with this song. Players sit or kneel in a circle, each holding a stone. Tap Floor Tap stone in front. Pass R or L Pass stone to right or left (leader decides direction before starting game). Version 1 Tslation The third class train is coming! What is mother doing? She is looking after the children. Whoever has more than one stone in front of them at the end of the song is eliminated. Eliminated players improvise rhythmic patterns using drums and other unpitched percussion. Play begins again, increase tempo each time. Continue in this way until there is one winner. Version 2 As above, once there are three eliminated players they will begin a new circle either inside the original circle or in another location. If they are eliminated they remain in smaller inside circle, if not they move back to original circle. Version 3 A signal is given or leader calls out Right or Left to change direction players pass the stones. 9
10 Biddy Biddy (Lost My Gold Ring) Jamaican Folk & ## 4 2 Bid-dy bid -dy hold fast lost my gold ring, car-ry me to Lon - don come back a- gain. & # # Version 1 Bid -dy bid -dy hold fast lost my gold ring, car-ry me to Lon - don come back a- gain. Players sit or stand in a circle with one player in the center. Players in the circle place hands in front and loosely clasp hands together. Hands should be loose enough that a small obect (a ring) can be dropped in but not so loose that it will fall out. Players close eyes and sing while center player walks around with ring and taps hands of each player, dropping the ring into one player s hands on I go to Kingston. The player with the ring sings, Come back again. Players take turns guessing who has the ring. Player who guesses correctly becomes the next player in the center and game continues. Version 2 Similar to version 1 but center player walks around with ring and taps hands of each player, dropping the ring into one player s hands at any time during song. Teacher Tips Set a limit for the numbers of guesses I choose the magical three. This song is also known as Lost My Gold Ring and sometimes features the words, Biddy biddy hold on. & b 4 4 Bil Til Billy Bracket.. - ly told her, "Hold on to my shoul - der, keep it there, - ly Brack - ett, hold on to my ack - et. Hold my shirt, stay a - lert! light Jamaican Folk Players spread throughout the space with three chosen as leaders. Leaders walk around the space; on the word, coat, each leader taps a player to get in line behind them and hold their shirt. The next time through the song, leaders tap another player, etc. The second child grabs the shirt of a third child, etc. If a leader does not choose a player on coat, all in their group are eliminated (sit down). Alternate words are included so students can hold shoulders instead of shirts if desired. as air". 10
11 & 4 4 Black snake, black snake, & Black snake, black snake, Black Snake American Folk where are you hi - din'? Black snake, black snake, where are you hi - din'? where are you hi - din'?. Please, don't come out and Choose a seeker and a hider. Seeker goes out of the room; hider hides a rubber snake in the room. Player outside comes back in while all others sing quietly. When seeker moves close to the snake, players sing louder, when seeker moves away all sing quieter until snake is found. Seeker and hider choose new players to hide and seek. Game continues. Teacher Tip This is one of the most requested songs and games! Students love to hide things and while this is similar to hot or cold game, this combines the scariness of snakes with a song to teach and reinforce dynamics! Consider allowing students to have only one ob, either a hider or a seeker, not both. They will play this for hours!!! All & 4 4 Boo Hoo Spell Who? Witch do, wiz-ard's boo, I cast a spell now don't boo-hoo. Witch do, wiz-ard's boo, It All bite me! A. C. Pitzner and C. M. Pitzner I cast a spell and it's on you. &. What kind of spell do you wish? Person clapped moves own right hand to clap left side neighbor s hand. Beat continues around circle until you. Player clapped on you is asked, What kind of spell do you wish and then names a spell; ghost, goblin, pumpkin, chocolate, magic, etc. Players then spell out the spell ; player who chose the spell claps the next person and the claps continue for each letter of the spell. Player about to be clapped on final letter tries to pull hand away before being clapped. If clapped, player is out. Eliminated player goes to center; as more eliminated players oin, they begin game in center. With two circles going, inner circle players clapped on final letter of spell remain in inner circle; if they pull away successfully, they return to outer circle. 11
