Series vs. Notre Dame: 2-0 Last Meeting: W, 94-58, 2/18/95 Series Streak: 2 The Series Tonight s contest is the third match-up for these two teams. Mercyhurst has won the first two contests. Scouting Mercyhurst The women look to improve on their 8-19 mark on last season. The Lakers return eight players, including four starters, and adds five newcomers to the roster. Cassie Seth, will finally play her true position for the Lakers. Seth, who averaged 10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds, will move to shooting guard after starting at point guard for the last three years. Running the offense will be newcomer Priscila Nascimento, a junior transfer (Labette Community College). Junior Katlyn Petit (8.9 points, 5.0 rebounds) along with seniors Mary Clare Harlan (6.4 points, Team Information 4.2 rebounds) and Coco Sommers (3.3 points, 2.0 rebounds) will provide experience and depth from the wing position. Julie Anderson will once again anchor the Lakers frontcourt. Anderson led the Lakers in both scoring (15.6 points) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) last year. Senior twins Samantha Solada and Erin Solada will split time at the center position. Samantha (4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds) is a more dominate force on the block, while Erin (3.5 points, 3.1 rebounds) provides versatility utilizing a mid-range game. Cassie Seth was the only other Laker in double figures, with 13 points on 10-of-11 from the foul line. Anderson hit 9-of-13 shots from the floor and 8-of-10 from the line. Mercyhurst hit just 32 percent from the field, but held the Vikings to 32 percent shooting as well. 3 stay in the game, hitting 21-of-25 (84 percent) from the line. Olmstead Bounces Back Jessica Olmstead (Conneaut, Ohio) has returned to the team as a student assistant coach. Last year, Olmstead played in 21 games while averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Anderson Garners Honors Julie Anderson (Verona, Ont.) was named to the 2005 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Distict II College Division Women s Second Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Anderson carries a 3.96 gradepoint average in sports medicine in addition to leading the Lakers on the hardwood in the season. The sophomore led the team in points with 15.4 per game, rebounds with 7.5 a contest and steals with 67. In addition, Anderson was selected to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division All-Conference Second Team in the season. Anderson, a 6-0 sophomore, led the Lakers in both scoring and rebounding this past season and was seventh in the GLIAC in both categories. She averaged 15.6 points per game and 16.5 in conference games. Anderson also led the conference in steals with 2.7 picks per game. During that eight-game stretch she is averaging 17.7 points and 7.9 boards a game. Righting the Ship Second-year head coach Karin Nicholls had a dramatic impact on the Lakers program improving a 1-25 team in to the 8-19 record last season.
