The colors will be presented by a UVA ROTC Joint Color Guard consisting of cadets and midshipmen from the Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC units. Members of the UVA ROTC units will unfurl a large flag for the national anthem. A pregame flyover will be conducted by the United States Air Force. NOTING VIRGINIA IN ACC OPENERS Virginia begins its 65th season competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday against Louisville. Virginia holds a all-time record in conference openers. This is only the fifth season over the last 13 years that Virginia will open ACC play at Scott Stadium. During that span only the 27 (Duke), 21 (Florida State), 214 (Louisville) and 217 (Duke) seasons did UVA start ACC play in Charlottesville. This is the second time UVA has opened ACC play against Louisville since the Cardinals joined the league. UVA opened up 214 ACC play with a win over No. 21 Louisville at Scott Stadium. In the win over Ohio, UVA had a quarterback throw for 3+ yards, a running back rush for 1+ yards and a receiver record 1+ receiving yards for the first time since the 211 Maryland game. For the first time in program history, UVA had three one-play scoring drives against Ohio (all in the first quarter). The 199 Navy game UVA had two one-play scoring drives. HB Olamide Zaccheaus set a UVA single-game record with 247 receiving yards, breaking Ken Shelton s previous record of 241 receiving yard set against William & Mary in Zaccheaus 247 receiving yards ties him with Randy Marriott of UNC (1987) for No. 1 on the ACC s all-time ledger of single-game receiving yards. Zaccheaus has 177 career receptions. He needs 34 catches to break Billy McMullen s UVA record of 21. With 23 receptions, Zaccheaus will become only the second player in program history to reach 2 career receptions. #NewStandard: BY THE NUMBERS HB Olamide Zaccheaus set a UVA single-game record with 247 receiving yards against Ohio, breaking a 44-year old mark. QB Bryce Perkins has been responsible for nine touchdowns through UVA s first two games (seven passing, two rushing). HB Olamide Zaccheaus has a reception in 32-straight games. The streak started in Miami against the Hurricanes on Nov. 7, 215. Saturday marks the 65th season of Atlantic Coast Conference play for the Cavaliers. Here is some of the terminology that contributes to UVA s culture. Grounds: The term used by students, faculty and alumni to refer to the University dating as far back as Thomas Jefferson. Campus is never used. First Year, Second Year, Third Year, Fourth Year: Instead of freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. Why you may ask? To be a senior implies that a person has reached the final phase of learning, a feat that Thomas Jefferson believed to be impossible, arguing instead that education is a life-long process. Commonwealth: Virginia is one of four constituent states of the United States of America that officially uses the name Commonwealth instead of the word state in all references. The other three commonwealths are Kentucky, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. UNIVERSITY NICKNAMES Virginia s athletics teams have been accompanied by a somewhat confusing array of nicknames. The most prominent and widely accepted of these monikers are Cavaliers, Wahoos and Hoos. Although the terms Cavaliers, Wahoos and Hoos are used almost interchangeably to refer to University teams and players, Cavaliers is more often used by the media, while Wahoos and Hoos are frequently used by Virginia students and fans. Legend has it that Washington & Lee baseball fans dubbed the Virginia players Wahoos during the fiercely contested rivalry that existed between the two in-state schools in the 189s. By 194, Wahoos was in general use around Grounds to denote University students or events relating to them. The abbreviated Hoos sprang up later in student newspapers and has gained growing popularity in recent years. THE CAVALIER MASCOT The costumed Cavalier with a large character head debuted during Virginia s 1984 football season and has remained the official mascot of the University. The first documented Cavalier on horseback was Francis Bell, a Virginia student from Dublin, Va., in Bell rode onto the field dressed as Cavaliers for Virginia s home football game with Harvard on the afternoon of October 11. The Cavalier on horseback returned as the University s mascot in The UVA Polo Club provided both the horse and rider. However, the mounted Cavalier and his horse parted company in 1974 with the inception of AstroTurf at Scott Stadium. The mounted Cavalier made its return in the Florida Citrus Bowl at the end of the 1989 football season. Due to its instant popularity, the Cavalier on horseback returned the following season on a regular basis and continues to lead the Virginia football team onto the field at the beginning of all home games. UNIVERSITY COLORS Orange and blue were adopted as the University of Virginia s official athletic colors at a mass student meeting in UVA athletic teams had previously worn silver gray and cardinal red, but those colors did not stand out on muddy football fields, prompting a student movement to change them. One of the students attending the mass meeting was Allen Potts, a star athlete who played on Virginia s first football team in Potts showed up at the meeting wearing a navy blue-and-orange scarf that he had acquired during a summer boating expedition at Oxford University. Orange and blue were chosen as the official athletic colors after one of Potts fellow students pulled the scarf off Potts neck and, waving it to the crowd, yelled, How will this do? UVA later served as the inspiration for schools like Auburn and Florida when they selected school colors. WAH-HOO-WAH The origin of Wah-hoo-wah is uncertain. The cheer was used to root on Virginia teams as early as 189 and may have been borrowed from Dartmouth College, whose athletics teams were once known as the Indians. Legend attributes the yell to Natalie Floyd Otey, who sang the ballad Where er You Are, There Shall My Love Be at Charlottesville s Levy Opera House in The predominantly student audience noticed that Otey warbled the first three words of the song between each of the stanzas and decided to join in the refrain. By evening s end, goes the legend, the crowd had corrupted Where er You Are into Wahhoo-wah. The Levy Opera House stands at the corner of High Street and Park Street and has since been renovated into an office building. 3

Louisville leads the all-time series, 4-2. UL also leads the series, 3-1, since Louisville joined the ACC in 214. Until the final minute heroics from 216 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson in Charlottesville, the home team had won every game in the series. Five games in the series have been won by a touchdown or less, including the first three on field goals in the closing minutes. VIRGINIA - LOUISVILLE CONNECTIONS When Louisville head coach Bobby Petrinio was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, he coached former UVA standout Jason Snelling. A nice UVA tie to the Kentucky Derby involves alum Hollis B. Chenery. He earned a masters degree in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia. Chenery s sister, Penny, raced Secretariat on behalf of the family after their father passed. Secretariat won the Kentucky Derby in 1973 on the way to the Triple Crown. After Secretariat s victory in the Belmont Stakes, Hollis Chenery led the horse down the walkway to the winner s circle as cameras took pictures and the crowd gave a standing ovation. Louisville kicker Ron Bell connected on a 39-yard field goal with 1 seconds left in the game to give the Cardinals the triumph at Old Cardinal Stadium. UVA had led Louisville after scoring on its opening drive of the second half, but Louisville scored 16 unanswered points to snatch the victory away from the Cavaliers. The tables were flipped when the series moved to Charlottesville in Jake McInerney kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to lift UVA over Louisville, McInerney s kick is one of two field goals in UVA history to win a game with zeros on the clock. The most recent was in 211 when Robert Randolph chipped a 23-yard game-winner at Indiana. Shawn Moore gave UVA a 13-9 lead with his 4-yard passing strike to Herman Moore in the closing seconds before halftime. Louisville used two fourth-quarter field goals to build a lead before McInerney s heroics. On UVA s game-winning drive, Moore orchestrated the offense on a 1-play, 6-yard drive, to set up McInerney s field goal. UVA scored on a Jordan Ellis 18-yard touchdown rush, an 86-yard Olamide Zaccheaus receiving touchdown and a 75-yard Ellis rushing touchdown. Only once before had UVA had multiple one-play scoring drives in the same game, which came against Navy in 199. Those plays went for 55 and 54 yards. Zaccheaus 86-yard touchdown reception is the fourth-longest one-play scoring drive. Ellis 75-yard rushing touchdown is tied for No. 7 all-time among UVA s one-play scoring drives. Another 75-yard score against Clemson in 1989 shares the spot, which was a Herman Moore receiving touchdown from Matt Blundin. UVA COLLECTING EXPOLSIVE PLAYS IN 218 UVA has three plays from scrimmage in 218 that have gone for 75 yards or more, all touchdowns and all came against Ohio. Only the 1995 UVA team had as many plays from scrimmage go for 75 yards or more. All three of their plays also went for touchdowns. In 1995 Mike Groh found Demetrius Pete Allen in the Duke game for 82 yards. Groh later found Patrick Jeffers for 76 yards against Clemson. Tiki Barber rushed for an 81-yard touchdown against Michigan. Only the 1983, 215 and 216 teams had at least two in the same season. RECORD-SETTING DAY FOR ZACCHEAUS AGAINST OHIO HB Olamide Zaccheaus helped UVA with a key non-conference win over the Ohio Bobcats in Nashville. Zaccheaus set a UVA single-game record with 247 receiving yards, breaking a 44-year old record by Ken Shelton who had 241 receiving yards against William & Mary. Zaccheaus 247 receiving yards ties him with Randy Marriott of UNC (1987) for No. 1 on the ACC s all-time ledger of single-game receiving yards. Zaccheaus scored on scoring strikes from Bryce Perkins of 86 and 77 yards, which is the only time in program history that a team, let alone one player, recorded multiple receptions of 75 yards or more in the same game. Zaccheaus was the only player in program history to record multiple receptions of 8 yards or more. He now has three, two of which have come against MAC schools. Zaccheaus had an 82-yard receiving touchdown against Central Michigan in 216 and an 81-yard touchdown reception at North Carolina in 217. CAVALIERS HAVE BIG FIRST HALF AGAINST OHIO The Cavaliers scored 38 points in the first half against Ohio, which is the fourth-most points scored in a half in program history. It ties the 38 points, also scored in the first half, the Cavaliers scored against Duke in 199. BIG NUMBERS FOR ELLIS, PERKINS AND ZACCHEAUS In the win over Ohio, UVA had a quarterback (Perkins, 379), throw for 3+ yards, a running back (Ellis, 171) rush for 1+ yards and a receiver (Zaccheaus, 247) record 1+ receiving yards for the first time since the 211 Maryland game. In the 211 Maryland game Michael Rocco passed for 37 yards, Perry Jones rushed for 139 yards, while Kris Burd (112) and Tim Smith (11) each recorded over 1 yards receiving. PERKINS SHOWCASES PASSING GAME AGAINST OHIO QB Bryce Perkins threw for a career-high 379 yards on 2-of-25 passing against the Ohio Bobcats. He became the 2th different Cavalier to pass for at least 3 yards in a game. His 379 yards are the sixth-most passing yards all-time in a game by a Cavalier. At one point Perkins completed 15 passes in a row against the Bobcats, which ranks No. 2 all-time at UVA for most completed passes in a row in a game. It also ties Shawn Moore for No. 2 all-time for career consecutive completions, who completed 15 passes over two games in Michael Rocco owns the record for most completions in a row with 18, doing so against Miami in 212. PERKINS CREATED MORE UVA FIRSTS AT INDIANA QB Bryce Perkins rushed for 123 yards at Indiana to become the first UVA quarterback to rush for 1+ yards in multiple games in a season since Bill Dudley did it four times in Perkins is also the first Cavalier in program history to rush for 1+ yards in each of his first two career games. Perkins also rushed for 18 yards in his UVA debut against Richmond on Sept. 1. The only Cavalier to become relatively close to the feat was Gary Helman who rushed for 1+ yards in two of his first three career games in He rushed for only 4 yards in his collegiate debut against Clemson, but followed up in career game No. 2 with 158 rushing yards against Duke. Then Helman rushed for 148 yards in career game No. 3 against William & Mary. CAVALIERS STRONG ON THIRD DOWN THROUGH THREE GAMES Through three games, Virginia has done well when its faced a third down situation of 1 yards or less. UVA is 22-of-33 (66.7) on third downs where it needs 1 yards or fewer for a first down. UVA is 13-of-15 (86.7) on third downs where it needs five yards or fewer for a first down. Overall, UVA is 23-of-42 (54.8 percent) on third downs, which is No. 2 in the ACC and No. 13 nationally. ZACCHEAUS PASSES 3, CAREER ALL-PURPOSE YARDS With 247 all-purpose yards against Ohio, Olamide Zaccheaus became the 19th Cavalier all-time to reach 3, career all-purpose yards. He is the fifth Cavalier to pass the 3, all-purpose yard mark since 212. Since the 212 season Perry Jones, Kevin Parks, Darius Jennings and Taquan Mizzell all crossed 3, career all-purpose yards. Byrce Perkins 86-yard touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus vs. Ohio is the longest scoring strike of the season for the Cavaliers and the 1th longest in UVA history Jordan Ellis 75-yard rushing touchdown against the Ohio is the second-longest scoring play of the season. UVA had three offensive touchdowns against Ohio that went for 75 yards or more, including Zaccheaus 77-yard touchdown reception against Ohio. BRONCO MENDENHALL IS IN SPECIAL COMPANY Bronco Mendenhall is one of three active coaches that has inherited at least two programs in his career that were coming off a losing season and in year one, or year two, played in a bowl game. The others to do it are Nick Saban (Alabama, LSU, Michigan State) and Mark Dantonio (Michigan State/Cincinnati). Mendenhall inherited a BYU team that went 5-6 in 24 and in his first season the Cougars went 6-6 and played in the 25 Las Vegas Bowl. Mendenhall took over a Virginia team that went 4-8 in 215 and took the Cavaliers to the 217 Military Bowl in year No. 2, finishing 6-7. A PROGRAM FIRST AGAINST RICHMOND For the first time in program history, UVA had a quarterback run for at least 1 yards, a second player rush for at least 1 yards and a receiver collect at least 1 receiving yards in a game. Against Richmond QB Bryce Perkins rushed for 18 yards, TB Jordan Ellis rushed for 146 yards and HB Olamide Zaccheaus recorded 11 receiving yards. Twice before UVA had a quarterback rush for a 1+ yards, while another Cavalier also rushed for 1+ yards: 1967 vs. Buffalo (Frank Quayle, 151 and QB Gene Arnette, 119); 1975 vs. Maryland (QB Scott Gardner, 12 and Billy Copeland, 1). THORNHILL ALL OVER THE PLACE AT INDIANA SS Juan Thornhill helped UVA hold Indiana scoreless in the second half. Thornhill blocked a IU PAT and returned it for a defensive two-point score. It was the first time UVA scored defensive extra points since Joe Crocker did so against NC State in Crocker s points came off an interception of a two-point conversion. Thornhill also intercepted the eighth pass of his career in the game and added seven tackles. Thornhill earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week for his efforts. TRUE FRESHMAN STARTING ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE Against Richmond, NT Jordan Redmond became the first UVA true freshman to start a season opener on the defensive line since 22 when DE Kwakou Robinson started against Colorado State. Reed had eight returns of 3 yards or more. That is the most by a Cavalier since Cedric Peerman returned nine kicks in 25 for 3 yards or more. With only 56 kick returns to his career resume, Reed already ranks No. 4 all-time at UVA in career kick return yards with 1,539. Reed s 861 kick return yards in 217 are the second most in a season by a Cavalier, trailing only Khalek Shepherd s single-season program record of 929 in 212. RETURN OF THE MACK Junior inside linebacker Jordan Mack is UVA s leading returning tackler after finishing 217 with 114 tackles. While former Cavaliers Micah Kiser (145) and Quin Blanding (137) finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the ACC in tackles three years in a row, Mack finishing No. 5 in the ACC and No. 28 nationally in tackles was mostly an afterthought. In 217 UVA was the only Power 5 to have three players with at least 1 tackles. New Mexico State was the only other school in the nation to also accomplish that feat in 217. Mack returns the second-most tackles in ACC entering 218, chasing only Duke s Joe Giles-Harris (125), who finished No. 3 in the ACC in tackles in 217. Mack is tied for No. 14 in the nation among all tacklers returning in 218. A THORN IN THE SIDE OF AN OFFENSE SS Juan Thornhill is one of the nation s best at what he does on defense. Thornhill has played corner and safety at UVA and entered 218 with 23 career starts between the two positions. Thornhill earned third-team All-ACC honors in 217 after finishing No. 3 in the ACC in both interceptions (4) and passes defended (16). Thornhill also is a stellar tackler, finishing 217 with 63 tackles, including a career-high three for a loss against Navy in the Military Bowl. STRONG SECONDARY RETURNS IN 218 While UVA lost a lot on defense with the graduation of FS Quin Blanding, DE Andrew Brown and ILB Micah Kiser, it returns a pretty good secondary that finished No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in the ACC with passing yards allowed per game. UVA s defense also ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC in Red Zone defense in 217. UVA entered 218 with defensive secondary starts from Bryce Hall (13), Brenton Nelson (13), Juan Thornhill (12), Chris Moore (7), Joey Blount (1) and Tim Harris (1). CB Myles Robinson started three games in 216 before suffering a season-ending injury. CB Tim Harris has 22 career starts entering 218, but has missed most of 216 and 217 with injury. BLOUNT LOOKS TO MAKE DEFENSIVE IMPACT IN YEAR TWO With the graduation of UVA s all-time career tackle leader Quin Blanding, sophomore Joey Blount looks to have a big impact on defense. As a first year in 217, Blount led UVA with 13 tackles on special teams, 11 of which came on kickoffs. Blount recorded his first career double-digit tackle game against Boston College, notching 1 stops while seeing his most playing time on defense in 217. Blount made his first collegiate start at cornerback at Pitt in 217 for the injured Juan Thornhill. Blount is the son of former UVA safety, Tony Blount, who played for the Cavaliers from and owns the 11th-longest interception return (63) in program history. DEFENSE GETS COOK AND HARRIS BACK FOR SIXTH SEASON UVA s defense welcomes the return of ILB Malcolm Cook and CB Tim Harris, each returning for a sixth season. Cook missed the entire 216 season with a medical condition, while Harris received a medical hardship after appearing in two games. Harris suffered a season-ending injury in the 217 season opener against William & Mary, receiving a second medical hardship in as many years. Harris owns 22 career starts, while Cook was slated as a starter at OLB in Bronco Mendenhall s 3-4 in 216 before a medical condition almost halted his athletic career. Of Harris 22 starts, 21 of them took place between Harris missed the 213 season opener against Mendenhall s BYU team with an injury, but played in the last 11 games of the year. He later played in the 214, 215, 216 and 217 season openers. Injuries slowed Cook in 214 and 215 before missing 216 with a medical condition. He made six starts in 217, including a career-high 13 tackles in the season-opening win against William & Mary. Harris and Cook, both hail from Richmond, enrolled together in 213. COLEMAN A PROVEN COMMODITY IN THE PUNT GAME Senior Lester Coleman returns to the fold in 218 after earning second-team All-ACC honors as a punter. Coleman finished 217 No. 4 in the ACC with a 43.7 punting average. He led the ACC with 23 punts of 5 yards or more and was No. 2 in the ACC, No. 7 nationally, with 29 punts inside the 2. Also, 16 of his 29 punts inside the 2 were downed inside the 1-yard line. Coleman also set a UVA single-season record with six punts of 6 yards or more. Coleman sat his first three years on Grounds before making his collegiate debut in the 217 season opener against William & Mary. He sat the 215 and 216 seasons behind former first-team All-ACC punter Nicholas Conte. Coleman did not punt in high school until his senior season. He had played defensive line and receiver at Woodberry Forest. His high school needed a punter and because Lester s older brother, James, had walked on to UVA as a punter in 212, Lester was asked to punt without any experience. Lester s brother, James, redshirted at UVA in 212 and punted two times over three seasons (213-15) before using his fifth year to be the starting punter at Western Michigan in 216. Lester Coleman averaged 52.3 yards per punt over his seven punts against Boston College (Oct. 21) to break the single-game UVA punting record. Perkins transferred to UVA last January from Arizona Western Community College after leading the Matadors to the 217 NJCAA Championship game, before falling to East Mississippi. Perkins originally signed as a top recruit with hometown Arizona State, but never saw action during his two seasons in Tempe. He redshirted the 215 season and missed the 216 season with an injury. Perkins father, Bruce, lettered at Arizona State in 1988 and 1989 as a fullback and later played briefly in the NFL. Perkins older brother, Paul, was a three-year letterwinner at running back with the UCLA Bruins and currently plays with the New York Giants. Perkins uncle, Don Perkins, played eight seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys. Perkins, who passed for 1,311 yards and rushed for 353 yards (5.1 avg.) at Arizona Western in 217, is replacing Kurt Benkert as UVA s quarterback in 218. Benkert set UVA s single-season passing mark (3,27) and total offense (3,144) record in 217. PERKINS IS UVA S STARTING QUARTERBACK Bryce Perkins, a transfer from Arizona Western Community College, became (vs. Richmond) just the second Cavalier quarterback to start his UVA debut since 1977 when Bryan Shumock started the season opener against NC State. Shumock switched to defensive back for the 1978 season and led UVA with four interceptions. Former UVA quarterbak Kurt Benkert also started his UVA debut against Richmond in 216. Perkins was the 12th different UVA starting quarterback to start an opener in the last 14 seasons. 16 218 VIRGINIA FOOTBALL BRONCO MENDENHALL Bronco Mendenhall Head Coach Third Season Bronco Mendenhall is in his third season as Virginia s head football coach after being named the program s 4th head coach on Dec. 4, 215. In Mendenhall s second season on Grounds in 217 he directed UVA to its first bowl game since 211. He oversaw a defense that ranked No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in the ACC against the pass (165.8). The group was headed by three-time first-team All-ACC player Quin Blanding, ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year Brenton Nelson and third-team All-ACC cornerback Juan Thornhill. Blanding finished his illustrious career with more All-America honors and as UVA s all-time record holder with 495 career tackles. The 495 career tackles rank tied for No. 6 all-time in ACC history and are the most by any ACC defensive back. Blanding finished each of his four seasons No. 2 in the ACC in tackles. Inside linebacker Micah Kiser was named the Campbell Trophy winner (Academic Heisman) and led the ACC in tackles for the third year in a row. Only Boston College s Luke Kuechly (29-11) had previously accomplished the feat in league history. Kiser was also a three-time first-team All-ACC honoree and received multiple All-America honors over the 216 and 217 seasons, including becoming the first Cavalier since Tiki Barber in 1996 to earn both academic and athletic All-America honors in the same season when he was a second-team CoSIDA Acdemic All-American in 216. Mendenhall saw the conclusion of quarterback Kurt Benkert s collegiate career in 217. The UVA quarterback became the first player in program history to throw for over 3, yards in a season. Benkert finished 217 with 3,27 passing yards and a single-season program record 298 completions. Benkert s 25 passing touchdowns in 217 rank No. 2 all-time at UVA for a season. The starting quarterback for each of Mendenhall s first two seasons at Virginia, Benkert leaves No. 3 all-time at UVA in career passing yards (5,759) and passing touchdowns (46), which came in 24 career games for the Cavaliers. In Mendenhall s first season on Grounds he oversaw a secondary that boasted first-team All-ACC honoree and All-American, Quin Blanding. Blanding finished the season No. 2 in the ACC in tackles for the third year in a row with 12 stops. Inside linebacker Micah Kiser, an All-American and first-team All-ACC honoree, thrived to lead the ACC in tackles for the second year in a row with 134, which is tied with former Cavalier great Wali Rainer for fourth-most in a single season in program history. Kiser was also a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American, becoming the first Cavalier since Tiki Barber in 1996 to earn both academic and athletic All-America honors in the same season. Offensively, in Mendenhall s first season, Taquan Mizzell became the first player in ACC history to record at least 1,5 career rushing and 1,5 career receiving yards. UVA quarterback Kurt Benkert set a couple of passing marks in UVA s new offense, including a program record for passing yards in a game with 421 against Central Michigan, which was only the second time in program history a UVA quarterback surpassed 4 passing yards in a game. Benkert reached 1, passing yards in four games and 2, passing yards in eight games, setting a program record for fastest to that standard in a season. Mendenhall came to Charlottesville after 11 years as the head coach at Brigham Young University. In his 11 seasons, from , Mendenhall compiled an overall record of at BYU to rank 12th in total wins among all FBS teams during that time. In the three seasons prior to Mendenhall becoming the head coach at BYU, the Cougars compiled an overall record of Over Mendenhall s 11 years at BYU, the Cougars were one of only 11 programs to advance to a bowl game each season (includes the 215 season). BYU joined by Alabama, Boise State, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin on that list. Among those 11 teams, only Florida State has achieved more bowl wins (seven) than BYU s six bowl game victories. When offensive coordinator Robert Anae finished playing football, he returned home to Hawaii and served as the body model for the towering stature of the father of surfing, Duke Kahanamoku, a five-time Olympian. The statue, created by artist Jan Fisher, is right next to the famous Waikiki Beach. Anae was a graduate assistant at Hawaii at the time and the artist needed a model, a surfer that was tall, and he went looking for the tallest surfer on the North Shore. DL Samson Reed s father, Tanoai, played offensive line at Hawaii from Reed s dad, Tanoai, is the cousin of Dwayne The Rock Johnson and works as his Hollywood stunt double. Junior defensive lineman Cassius Peat is the son of Todd Peat, who played six seasons in the NFL with the Cardinals and Raiders as an offensive guard. His older brother, Andrus, was an All-American at Stanford and a former first round draft pick by the Saints (215). Walk-on second year Tristan Hillerich is one of four boys. His parents, Brent and Colleen, are proud parents of two sets of twins. Tristan has a twin brother, Bart, while the pair has a younger set of twin brothers, Quinn and Grady. Virginia has five players on its roster who are the sons of former Cavalier football players.
