After 45 seasons, the Rebels are playing Martinsville for the first time, much like they met East Central for the first time when they faced off last Saturday in Shelbyville. The Rebels are riding a five-game winning streak, which is their longest since the team started the season with nine straight wins. The Rebels are 4-0 at The Woodshed this season. Two of the wins Whiteland and Scecina Memorial were one-possession games, while the Rebels defeated Perry Meridian and Brebeuf Jesuit by a combined 49 points. Rebel Roundups Senior Jimmy King shattered the school single-game scoring record last Saturday night when he scored 46 points at Shelbyville. The previous mark of 38 was shared by King (set earlier this season), Paul Corsaro (2006-7) and Jeff Manley ( ). In his record setting performance, King was 12-of-20 from the field, 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 20-of-21 from the line. He also established new school single-game records for free throws made and attempted. The previous marks were 15 and 19, respectively. For the second straight season, King was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Shelby Shootout. In the two games, King averaged 30.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and shot.607 (17-for-28) from the field and.957 (22-for-23) from the line. King was joined on the all-tournament team by senior Danny Annee. Annee averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the tournament. He scored a career-high 14 points in the win over East Central and added 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. The Martinsville Series Martinsville is one of five Mid-State Conference schools on Roncalli s schedule. The Rebels already defeated Whiteland in mid-december. They will play at reenwood on January 31 and travel to Franklin and Decatur Central in February. The Rebels captured the lead for good with a first-quarter closing 12-0 run. Roncalli led by as much as 16 (24-8) in the first half before taking a lead into the halftime break. The Rebels lead peaked at 23 (37-14) halfway through the third quarter. Shelbyville could get no closer than 10 (54-44) over the final 12 minutes. Jimmy King paced all scorers with a school-record 46 points. He also established new school records for free throws made (20) and attempted (21). Danny Annee added seven points and five boards. The tournament win was the Rebels fourth Shelby Shootout title and the ninth holiday tournament crown in program history. Notes Tonight is the 100th home game for Michael Wantz as the Rebels head coach. He is at home through 99 games. Ron Roembke scored 20 points for his third straight 20-point game. Sophomores Chris Hammond and Mark Kirkhoff added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Martinsville at a lance Head coach Kip Staggs is in his second season leading the Martinsville program. Dating back to the season, the Artesians have posted four straight winning seasons. Over that same span, the program has a record. Martinsville has won 36 sectional titles and four in the class basketball era (post 1997). The program won Class 4A sectional titles in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2013.

The gym hosted its first game in November of 1962, when the school was known as Bishop Chartrand High School. In the fall of 1969, John F. Kennedy Memorial High School merged with Bishop Chartrand to form Roncalli High School, whose teams would be known as the Rebels. He is the program s leader in games won, games coached and winning percentage. He has directed the Rebels to all four of their sectional titles and their only regional title. Prior to coming to Roncalli in the fall of 2002, Wantz served as an assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis and Wilberforce (Oh.) University. Wantz is a native of Union City, In. and a graduate of Ball State University.
