Broadcast: New Pal Radio (on TuneIn.com) SETTING THE SCENE Two Hoosier Heritage Conference foes meet up to open the weekend. NC has started 2-3 against a tough schedule, but features one of the state s top players in Ball State signee Luke Bumbalough. NP split two games last weekend to open the year. NC leads the series 15-5 and has won three straight. The Trojans won last season at New Castle. NC won a OT game in 2016 at New Palestine. DRAGONS NOTES With four starters back from a 15-win team, the Dragons have begun the season 1-1, rallying from a 10-point deficit to beat Greenfield-Central That was followed with a loss to in which NP scored 26 fourth-quarter points in a comeback attempt that fell short. The Dragons had strong individual performances in both games. Against G-C, NP trailed after a quarter but rallied to take a five-point lead in the second with a 19-4 run, and seized control in the second half. Maximus Gizzi tallied 27 points, nine rebounds and four assists. He tied his career high in points. Matthew True added 19 points, including 3-4 from deep. Dylan Romine scored 13 points. He and Dawson Eastes had eight boards each. Against, Eastes tallied career highs with 29 points and 14 boards. He hit 9-16 from the floor. Gizzi added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, while True scored 10 points. Maxen Hook grabbed eight rebounds as NP outrebounded the host Shamrocks Eastes tallied the first double-figure rebound game since Kyle King snared 10 against Whiteland in February. It was the first double-double since Jalen Qualkinbush on Dec. 16, SCOUTING THE TROJANS Bumbalough tallied his third 30-point game of the season last week when he scored 30 against Shelbyville. NC outscored Shelby in the opening half en route to an victory over a solid Golden Bears team. The Trojans then fell to Brownsburg Bumbalough leads NC with a 28.6 ppg average. He also tallies 6.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, leading the Trojans in all three categories. Senior Nicholas Grieser tallies 11.6 points and 5.6 boards per game. He had a double-double in their victory over Shelbyville. New Castle is playing without All-State forward Mason Gillis, who is out with an injury. He has signed to play collegiately at Purdue. SATURDAY S GAME (DEC. 15) v s FRANKLIN CENTRAL FLASHES (0-5, 0-1 HCC) HEAD COACH: John Rockey (8th season, 81-91) Time: Site: New Palestine High School. Broadcast: New Pal Radio (on TuneIn.com) SETTING THE SCENE The Flashes visit for Teddy Bear Toss night. Fans are encouraged to throw new teddy bears onto the court after the Dragons first basket of the game. FC is one of the Dragons oldest foes. Dating back to 1948, NP is against the Flashes, but the series goes back farther. FC won a battle last season. SCOUTING THE FLASHES FC has started 0-5, but against a very tough schedule that includes defending state champion Warren Central. The Flashes dropped a OT game to Columbus North last Friday. FC is led by junior Isiah Morgan, who tallies 6.8 points and 2.5 boards a game, senior Eric Kolp, who averages 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. Sophomore Javon Small (4.5 rpg) leads the Flahes on the glass. Franklin Central is in its first season in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. The Flashes play HCC foe Zionsville Friday before visiting NP.

Maxen Hook and Kyle King were both IFCA All-State players. Eric Roudebush, Dawson Eastes and Jacob Hockett were also key parts of the team, as was Matt Brown, who was a two-way starter.. Hockett had two interceptions in the state championship game. Hook was the team s leading tackler. In addition to the six football players, senior Matthew True won more than 75 matches during his high school tennis career. Senior Jack Walker is a three-year starter on the Dragon baseball team as a pitcher/ first baseman. Walker has committed to play baseball at Indiana. FAMILY AFFAIR Guard Maximus Gizzi comes from a basketball family that is very active in New Palestine circles. His mother, Sarah Gizzi, is New Palestine s varsity girls basketball coach. She was an Indiana All-Star for NPHS in 1994, and played collegiately at LaSalle. His grandfather, Bruce Haynes, was the Dragons varsity coach from and is currently a girls assistant. The football team won its second state title in five seasons with a victory over Decatur Central. In the spring, the softball team won its fifth state tile since 2004, beating SB St. Joseph 3-1 in the championship game. Luke Bumbalough, New Castle Bumbalough had his third consecutive 30-point game in an win over Shelbyville. NEWS AND NOTES HHC play began last Friday with all eight teams playing their conference openers. Delta, Mt. Vernon, New Castle and New Palestine started 1-0. MV rallied in the fourth quarter to win a closely-contested game over PH. Peyton Meadors had 18 points, four rebounds and four assists for MV. Christian Jones led PH with 13. Delta continued its strong start with a win over Yorktown. Four Eagles were in double figures, including Josh Bryan s 21 points and 18 from Josh Greenburg. Luke Dunn had 15 for Yorktown.
