For the second in a row, they re playing it at Kelso Stadium. The Dragons are meeting the Castle Knights with a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium and the Class 5A State Finals on the line. The winner will play Fort Wayne Snider or Kokomo for the state title next Friday. The Dragons won last year s semistate over Columbus East en route to a state title. This year, it s a new class and a new foe, as the Dragons play for a 5A semistate title against the Castle Knights. Last week The Dragons had a big day in a regional victory over Zionsville. It didn t take long to get started, as the Dragons scored on their first possession, forced a fourth-down stop, and scored again, and never looked back. The Dragons had a 28-7 lead in the first half, and a lead in the fourth. QB Alex Neligh completed 18-of- 27 for a career-high 273 yards and three TDs, two to Duke Blackwell and one to Brady Walden. It was the most passing yards since Blake Luker threw for 301 in October Neligh also ran for 132 yards and three scores, while RB Nick Brickens ran for 120 and a score. NP had 509 yards of total offense in the game, with Neligh amassing 405. Blackwell had 126 yards receiving, the second-most in his career, including a 62-yarder. It marked the second straight week with a 60-plus-yard TD pass to Blackwell. LB Joe Izbicki led the Red Rage with 10 tackles. Tonight s foe Castle brings a potent passing attack and an 8-4 record into the semistate. The Knights are averaging 38.8 points per game, including 47 ppg in their recent five-game streak. Castle is led by 10 th -year coach Doug Hurt, who is and has won four sectionals. This is the Knights first semistate appearance since the A state championship team. Junior QB Dayne Keller is averaging 240 yards per game passing and sophomore Jadrien Higginson has rushed for 1,000 yards. Junior Noah McLean has over 1,000 yards receiving. Castle beat Bloomington South last week in the regional. By the numbers NP has now won 27 straight games. WR Duke Blackwell has four TD catches the last two games extend his school record to 27 QB Alex Neligh broke Blake Luker s record for single-season total offense last week and has 3,976 this season. He needs three rushing TDs to tie Jeff Miles record of 52 ( ) for most in school history. He had six total offense TDs last week to run his career total to 108. Neligh is also now the school s third-leading rusher with 2,965 yards. His 1,718 rush yards this season are third-most in school history, 343 short of Miles record of 2,061. K Spencer Corey has hit 98 straight extra points this year, setting state records for most PATs and most consecutive PATs in a season. The Dragons have 6,512 yards of offense this year. The two schools have met in the tournament in other sports in recent years. In 2012, Castle won a decision in the 4A boys basketball regional. Later that spring, New Palestine won 7-3 in the 4A baseball regional. Each school went on to win the regional title that season. Another perfect season The Dragons clinched the Dragons the seventh undefeated regular season in school history, and their third straight. It marked the first time in school history the Dragons have posted three straight unbeaten regular seasons. 3 1 vs. 2 New Palestine won a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 to win the ninth sectional title in school history on Nov. 6. It was the third straight year the Dragons had met Columbus East in the tourney, and the two teams were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in each year. The two previous meetings, the winner went on to win the state title. NP had 181 rushing yards, led by Nick Brickens 119 yards, and Alex Neligh threw for 128 yards in the win. He had TD passes of 65 and 17 yards to Duke Blackwell. Also in that game, NP held Columbus East s high-powered offense to 299 yards and two scores. Joe Izbicki had 14 tackles and Luke Ely 10. Turn it over The Dragons are now plus-21 in turnover margin, with 26 takeaways and five giveaways. The Dragons have turned 20 of the 26 takeaways into scores scoring 146 points off TOs while allowing none. JV/frosh update The JV team fell to Westfield to finish the year with a 3-6 record. The freshman team finished 3-4, with several members of the freshman class playing JV and varsity. Two 1,000-yard rushers Quarterback Alex Neligh and running back Nick Brickens have both topped the 1,000-yard mark, giving the Dragons two 1,000-yard rushers for the third consecutive season. It s Neligh s second 1,000-yard rushing season, Brickens first. Last season, James Young ran for 1,688 yards and Neligh 1,185. In 2013, Young ran for 1,250 yards and Blake Luker ran for 1,142. Neligh joins Young ( ), Chris Grider ( ), Nick Roudebush ( ) and Jeff Miles ( ) as players to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back years. Dragons clinch 3 rd straight HHC title The Dragons clinched a piece of their seventh HHC title last week, and can win its sixth outright HHC title as well as its third straight and fifth in the last six years with a victory tonight. New Palestine has won 15 conference championships in its history, also winning the Rangeline Conference in 1992 and seven Big Blue River Conference titles. 5 Neligh topping the charts Senior Alex Neligh has rewritten the record book as the Dragons quarterback. He assumed the starting role as a junior and led the Dragons to a state title that season. He is the career leader in completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total offense and total offense touchdowns, and is among the top rushers. NP is 27-0 in games he starts. 7 Corey shatters state record Dragon junior kicker Spencer Corey has hit 91-of-91 PATs in the 2015 season, setting a state record for the most consecutive PATs hit in a year. The previous record of 71 straight was set by Fort Wayne Dwenger s Greg Black in Corey has also broken the state record of 79 PATs in a season hit by Hobart s Spiro Batistatos in Over his career, Corey has hit 100 straight. Corey is also 5-for-5 on FGs, hitting a career-long 42 against Delta. In his career, he has made some of the biggest kicks in school history. In 2013, he made two field goals including a 35-yarder to break a 14-all tie in the Dragons regional win at Chatard. 8 Linemen experience The New Palestine offensive line returns completely intact from the 2014 state championship season. Seniors Nick Derheimer, Andrew Yazel, Matt Moeller and Michael Woodall join junior David Judy with a year of starting experience. Woodall suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2, but the Dagons have some depth on the line. As a team, the Dragons lifted 5,000 more pounds of weights this offseason than The triple-100 team New Palestine had a 200-yard rusher, a 100-yard passer and a 100-yard receiver in Week 2 against Richmond, when Alex Neligh ran for 221 yards and threw for 201, and Logan Greene had 107 receiving yards. RB Nick Brickens also had 161 rushing yards. It marked the second 200/100/100 game for the Dragons in three outings. James Young, Neligh and Duke Blackwell turned the feat in the win over New Prairie in the 2014 State Finals. The Dragons also had a triple-century in Week 3 against Yorktown Neligh ran for 179 yards and threw for 193, and Greene had 115 receiving yards. They followed again in Week 4, when Neligh ran for 165 and threw for 217, and Blackwell had 112 receiving yards. In Week 6 at Greenfield-Central, Nick Brickens (201) and Luke Ely (100) broke the century mark on the ground, Neligh threw for 148 and Blackwell had 107 receiving yards. Against Ziosnville in the regional, both Neligh (132) and Brickens (120) broke 100 on the ground, Blackwell had 126 receiving yards and Neligh threw for 273. The Dragons had 95 plays in the 2013 opener against Danville 64 rush attempts and 31 passes. NP had 68 rush attempts against Richmond for 505 yards and attempted 24 passes for 201 yards. Neligh a 200/200 man In Week 2 s win over Richmond, quarterback Alex Neligh put forth something not seen in the program s 48 years a 200/200 performance. Neligh completed 16- of-24 passes for 201 yards, and rushed 22 times for 221 yards. He then repeated the feat three weeks later against Pendleton Heights, when he ran for 200 yards on 13 carries, and completed 13-of-17 passes for 248 yards. The 448 yards of total offense are the second-most in school history to Blake Luker, who amassed 471 in a 2013 game against Pendleton Heights. More impressively, Neligh tallied those yards playing just two and a half quarters in each game. Three 100-yard backs vs. PH The Dragons had a trifecta of 100-yard rushers in the Sept. 19 victory over Pendleton Heights. QB Alex Neligh rushed for 200 yards and three TDs on 13 carries, RB Nick Brickens had 169 yards and three TDs on 10 carries. RB Luke Ely added 137 yards and two scores on five carries. NP had 813 yards in that game, just 62 shy of the state record set by Decatur Central in Four grabbing TDs Four players had TD catches in the Week win over New Castle: Logan Greene (12), Brett Luker (25), Duke Blackwell (40) and James Crumlin (13) had TD catches from Alex Neligh. It was the first time since Sept. 27, 2013, when Tyler Walden, Justin Wiggins, Nolan Guedel and Blackwell had TDs against Yorktown. NP has had three players catch TD passes in two games this season, most recently against Martinsville in the sectional semifinal, when Logan Greene, Colby Jenkins and Joe Izbicki caught TD passes form Neligh. 1,000 yards in a game The Dragons had a shootout with Delta on Oct. 16 that featured the two teams combining for 95 points and 1,167 yards. The Dragons won NP had 645 yards of total offense in that game, with Alex Neligh rushing for 134 and throwing for 221, and Nick Brickens rushing for 223 yards. Delta tallied 522 yards, including 222 yards receiving by Mitchell Hahn and 171 yards rushing by Zach Mills. It was the second game this season in which the Dragons and a foe tallied 1,000 yards. On Sept. 19 against Pendleton Heights, the Dragons had 813 yards (565 rushing, 248 passing) and PH 376 (178 rushing, 196 passing) to total 1,189 yards. Neligh ran for 200 yards and threw for 248 in that game, Brickens ran for 169 and Luke Ely ran for 137. Seeing green (turf) The Dragons have made explosive plays their specialty, but they came quick in the Sept. 19 victory over Pendleton Heights. In that game, the Dragons had 10 running plays carry for more than 25 yards, and 13 overall plays go for more than 25. NP had 49 snaps in that game, with 31 going for first downs (23 in the first half) and 12 for touchdowns. QB Alex Neligh had rushes of 26, 32, 33T and 55T yards en route to a 200-yard game. RB Nick Brickens had rushes of 31, 37 and 64 yards en route to tallying 169 yards. RB Luke Ely had carries of 53 and 75T yards the latter the longest rushing play from scrimmage this season and RB Adam Kincaid had a run of 28 yards. Neligh also had passes of 36 yards to Logan Greene (TD), 49 to Brady Walden (TD) and 28 to Duke Blackwell. The longest play from scrimmage this season has been an 88-yard run by Nick Brickens at Greenfield-C.

9 Sack dancing Senior linebacker Joe Izbicki had a big day for the Dragons in their sectional opening win against Martinsville, with 12 tackles and four sacks. The four sacks were a season high for the Dragons, eclipsing James Crumlin s three against Shelbyville on Oct. 2. Crumlin (6) and Izbicki (5) lead the Dragons in sacks. 20 in a quarter The Dragons have made a habit of putting up big numbers quickly with 20-point quarters in coach Kyle Ralph s three years at the helm. Vernon Rookie impact The Dragons have a number of freshmen making an impact on this year s team. RB Luke Ely has posted two 100-yard games and is now a starting LB, with 10 tackles against Columbus East. WR/DB Colby Jenkins is on the kickoff return team, and OL Austin Keele has started at right tackle since Week 3. C.J. Faubion has also had a carry and Zach Neligh has played QB in several games. In the Red Rage In the Dragons Week 2 win over Richmond, the Red Rage held the Richmond rushing attack in the red, as the Red Devils had minus-13 yards on the ground, and just 42 yards of total offense and two first downs. In the Week 8 win over New Castle, the Red Rage held the Trojans to minus-4 yards passing one completion in six attempts, and also had three interceptions. The Trojans had 29 yards of total offense. Traveling trophies The Dragons are in possession of the HHC s Helmet Trophy, which they ve now held for 18 straight conference games since They also retained the Boundary Rail with a 59-7 win over Mt. Vernon in Week 4.

11 Yoder to the Hall of Fame Todd Yoder, a 1996 New Palestine graduate, was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame on Oct. 9. Yoder is one of six 1,000-yard receivers in NPHS school history, and was the school s valedictorian in He went on to a stellar four-year career at Vanderbilt, and then played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Buccaneers, Jaguars and Redskins. He was a key special teams performer on Tampa Bay s 2002 Super Bowl championship team. Yoder joins his high school coach, Marvin Shepler, in the football Hall of Fame. He is now the coach at Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Fla. A banner fall So far, New Palestine athletes have had a banner autumn, with two sectional, four HHC and three county titles. Two returning players, Alex Neligh and Joe Izbicki, were named All-State. Both were Junior All-State players by the IFCA. Neligh was also the AP All-State QB. Graduated seniors James Young (AP), Grable (AP, IFCA top 50), Gabe Estes (AP, IFCA top 50), Garrett Kuhn (AP) and Sterling Curran (IFCA) were named All-State. Most prolific in Indiana ever The 2014 New Palestine football team had the most prolific scoring season in the history of Indiana high school football in 2014, breaking a record set by Sheridan s 1988 state champions of 811 points. The Dragons scored 851 points last year, tallying at least 30 points in all 15 games, at least 40 in 13 contests, at least 50 in 10 games, at least 60 in seven contests, at least 70 points in four, and a school-record 83 points in the sectional final against Beech Grove. The Dragons total of 369 points in the tourney is also a record. NP also set a state record with 6,635 yards of total offense, breaking a record set by Griffith in 1997 (6,560). Football clinches school s 5 th title The Dragons 2014 football state championship was the fifth state title in school history, joining championships won by the baseball team (2004) and softball program (2004, 2008, 2009). It also marked the eighth appearance in a state championship game by a Dragon team, and the second by a New Palestine football team. The 1990 team, led by Hall of Fame coach Marvin Shepler, was the state runner-up and finished 12-2 on the season. In addition, wrestler Chad Red has won three individual state championships ( ), and will be going for a fourth this winter.
