1 Arizona Cardinals Football Club Game Release Game #7 THIS WEEK S GAME The Cardinals host the division leading Seattle Seahawks this week looking to earn a pivotal victory in the NFC West race, the NFL s only division with all four teams at or above.500. After playing four of their first six on the road, the Cards get to spend the next month close to home (three home games and a bye). This week will also mark the team s first home Thursday night game since 11/30/95 vs. the Giants at Sun Devil Stadium. Arizona is coming off a tough road loss in San Francisco, falling to 3-3 on the season after the 49ers converted four turnovers into 16 points in a decision. Despite two first quarter INTs that gave San Francisco possession inside the Arizona 15-yard line, a resilient Cardinals defense was able to hold the Niners to just six points on a pair of field goals. The Cardinals took the lead late in the first quarter on a 75- yard TD pass from Carson Palmer to WR Larry Fitzgerald who finished the game with a season-high 117 receiving yards. Trailing midway through the fourth quarter, Arizona was positioned to regain the lead on a drive deep into 49ers territory before the first of two late fumbles ended the possession and proved costly. Seattle is coming off a hard-fought decision over the visiting Tennessee Titans. RB Marshawn Lynch provided the majority of the Seattle points with a pair of rushing TDs. Following this week s game, the Cardinals remain home for a Week 8 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Seattle continues on the road with a trip to St. Louis. Despite taking over in some tough spots following turnovers and long kick returns, the AZ defense was strong and allowed just one TD in 70 plays. It helped keep the game close, especially as the offense struggled to find its rhythm in the 2 nd half. However, that offense produced when it needed to most and under some very adverse conditions. Starter John Skelton was knocked from the game with an ankle injury with just over 8 minutes to play. In came Kevin Kolb with the Cards down 3. He proved more than capable and led the go-ahead TD drive. After that, the Cards defense had to turn away one last Seattle threat in a furious and controversial finish. Seattle s game-opening drive ended when Steven Hauschka s 50-yard FG try was blocked by Calais Campbell, the 6 th of his career. However 2 plays later RB Ryan Williams fumbled it back to SEA at the AZ42, setting up a 27-yard FG. The Cards answered with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that reached the 3 & tied it with a 21-yard Jay Feely FG. WR Andre Roberts keyed the effort with a 15- yard reverse and 2-26 receiving. AZ took the lead on its next drive when LaRod Stephens-Howling scored from a yard out to make it The Cards took advantage of a Paris Lenon fumble recovery and went up 10 early in the 3 rd thanks to a 31-yard Feely FG. That lead would soon disappear as Seattle scored 13 straight. Leon Washington s 83-yard KOR set-up a 10-yard Russell Wilson TD pass to Sidney Rice. On the next play from scrimmage Skelton tried to throw it away but was INT d on the sideline at the AZ34 by CB Richard Sherman. The Cards D forced Seattle to settle for a 47-yard game-tying FG. After a 3-n-out by AZ, Washington returned the ensuing punt 52 yards to the AZ16. Despite being handed another short field, the defense again answered and Seattle had to settle for a 39-yard FG after netting minus-5 yards in 3 plays. Trailing 16-13, a Skelton-to-Roberts pass gave AZ its first 1 st down of the 2 nd half with 8:18 to play. However, Skelton injured his ankle on the play and Kolb entered. Despite no reps during the week & little warm-up he crisply operated the hurry-up offense and moved the Cards to the SEA6. On 2 nd -n-goal from there, he hit Roberts for the go-ahead TD. On the drive he was 6-8 passing for 66 yards and a TD. The Cards defense would then have to answer one more time. Seattle took over at its own 20 with 4:58 to play and 2 timeouts. With :52 to play they had advanced to the AZ13. From there the Seahawks would run 13 more plays and be given an extra timeout due to an officiating error amidst great confusion. However, they would not find the end zone and when Wilson s 4 th -n-goal pass from the 4 fell incomplete, Arizona emerged with the victory. SEAHAWKS CARDINALS Team Qtr. 4 LAST WEEK S GAME 49ERS 32, CARDINALS 20 October 13, 2013 Candlestick Park (69,732) In their final visit to Candlestick Park, the Cardinals had their opportunities to knock off the defending NFC Champs but in the end could not overcome four costly turnovers that led to 16 Niners points. The loss dropped Arizona to 3-3 while San Fran improved to 4-2 with its third straight victory. WR Larry Fitzgerald was a game-time decision with a hamstring injury but answered the bell to catch 6 passes for 117 yards and a 75-yard TD. Neither the Cardinals nor the 49ers offense picked up a first down on any of their first four possessions. However, two of Arizona s ended with Carson Palmer INTs that set up San Fran deep in AZ territory. The first by S Eric Reid was returned to the AZ7 while the second by CB Carlos Rogers was returned to the AZ11. In both cases the Cardinals defense came up big, limiting SF to two Phil Dawson FGs that put the hosts up 6-0. Late in the first, the Cards quickly took the lead when Palmer connected with Fitzgerald on a 75-yard scoring pass that was Arizona s longest since San Fran was on the verge of more points on its next drive but on 2 nd -n-goal from the AZ2, LB Karlos Dansby tipped Colin Kaepernick s pass and it was INT d at the goal line by S Yeremiah Bell. The downside was the Cards had to take over inside their own 1 and 3 plays later Palmer was sacked in the end zone for a safety by rookie LB Corey Lemonier. On the 2 nd play after the free kick, Kaepernick & TE Vernon Davis connected on a deep TD down the middle that covered 61 yards. The Cardinals struck right back on a 53-yard completion to WR Brittan Golden who was called up from the practice squad earlier in the week. On the next play rookie RB Andre Ellington ran it in from 15 yards out to trim San Fran s lead to Late in the 2 nd quarter, Davis capped his big 1 st half ( TDs) with a 35-yard TD from Kaepernick that made it at intermission. On their opening drive of the 3 rd quarter, Palmer capped a 9-play, 61-yard drive with 10-yard TD toss to Michael Floyd that made it when the 2-point try failed. After a 49er punt, Arizona took over at its own 20 and in 10 plays moved to the SF31 seemingly poised to take the lead. But after catching an 8-yard pass, Fitzgerald fumbled and SF recovered at its own 11. That turning point was followed by an even more pivotal San Fran dive that covered 89 yards in 18 plays and chewed 9:32 off the clock. RB Kendall Hunter ended it with his 6-yard run that put SF up with 6:35 left. Any Arizona comeback hopes were dashed on the 2 nd play of the ensuing drive when RB Alfonso Smith lost a fumble at the AZ31. The Niners turned than into a 44-yard Dawson FG that provided the game s final points. CARDINALS ERS Team Qtr. A Rare Feat in Week 4 The Cardinals defense held Doug Martin to just 45 rushing yards on 27 attempts, an average of 1.7 yards per carry. Martin s 45 rushing yards were the fewest yards for a RB with 25+ carries since LeSean McCoy had 38 yards on 27 carries on 12/11/11 vs. Miami. It also marked just the eighth time since 1935 that a player was held to 45 yards or fewer with at least 25 attempts in a game. It is only the second time it has happened in a loss and the first time since Sacks and INTs Pile Up vs. the Panthers The Cardinals defense recorded 7.0 sacks and 3 INTs of Cam Newton in Week 5. The 7.0 sacks were the most for the team in a single game since recording 8.0 vs. Dallas on 9/13/87 the Cardinals final season in St. Louis. It also marked just the second time the Cardinals defense has recorded 7.0+ sacks and 3+ INTs in a game since sacks became an official statistic in The only other time came on 12/18/83 vs. Philadelphia (11 sacks, 4 INTs). BIG COMEBACK IN TAMPA The Cardinals trailed Tampa Bay 10-0 entering the 4 th quarter in Week4, but scored 13 unanswered points in the final 12 minutes on two FGs by Jay Feely and a 13-yard TD strike from Carson Palmer to Larry Fitzgerald to earn the victory. Notes on the Win It marked the first time the Cardinals erased a 10+ point 4 th quarter deficit to win in regulation since 12/28/03 vs. Minnesota. The win marked the first time since 9/12/99 at Philadelphia that the Cardinals overcame a double-digit 4 th quarter deficit to win on the road. In that game, Arizona came back from 12 points down in the 4 th quarter to earn a win. Cardinals vs. Seahawks #SEAvsAZ 6 of 45

Arians utilizes those skills as an offensive specialist with the Cardinals, continuing to call the plays from the sidelines, opting to continue doing what only a handful of NFL head coaches do when taking over the leadership role. There are only seven coaches in the NFL that call the offensive plays, with many relying on their coordinators. During the 2008 postseason, he broke virtually every major playoff receiving record, establishing new single-season marks for receptions (30), receiving yards (546) and TDs (7). His four 100-yard receiving games that postseason established a new NFL record for consecutive games with 100 yards receiving. His nine TD receptions in six career postseason games are an NFL record for a player in their first six career playoff contests. With a franchise record 103 receptions during the 2005 season, he became the youngest player in NFL history to record a 100- catch campaign when he reached the mark at 22 years, 123 days old. Led the NFL in receiving TDs in both the 2008 (12) and 2009 (13) seasons. In addition to his 10 receiving TDs in 2007, he became the first player in franchise history to record at least 10 TDs in three consecutive seasons. At 29 years, 23 days old when the Cardinals faced the Eagles in Week 3 of the 12 season, Fitzgerald became the youngest player in NFL history to reach 700 career receptions. The previous record was held by Dallas TE Jason Witten, who was 30 years, 133 days old when he reached the mark in Week 2 of the 2012 season. At 29 years, 44 days old, he joined Randy Moss (28 years, 314 days) as the only two players in NFL history to reach 10,000 career receiving yards before the age of 30. One of just 17 players in NFL history to record 10,000 receiving yards and 80 TD receptions in their career. Cardinals vs. Seahawks #SEAvsAZ 11 of 45
