1 Arizona Cardinals Football Club Game Release Game #15 THIS WEEK S GAME The Cardinals will look to earn their 10 th win of the season, and seventh in eight games, when they travel to Seattle for a matchup against the division-leading Seahawks. Arizona will also be looking for its first win in Seattle since 2009 while facing a team that has won 14 straight on its home field. This week s game features two teams that have combined for 21 wins this season, more than any other teams that will square off in Week 16. The contest also showcases two of the NFL s top defenses as Arizona s top-ranked run defense looks to shut down Seattle s second-ranked rushing attack. At 9-5, the Cardinals are fighting for a spot in the postseason in the midst of a tight NFC playoff field. A win this week would give Arizona double-digit wins in a season for the first time since 2009 and it will also keep the Cardinals playoff chances alive entering a Week 17 matchup vs. the Niners. Arizona improved to 9-5 with its OT victory in Tennessee last week. Despite holding a lead late in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals needed OT to earn the win after Tennessee scored 17 points in the final four minutes of regulation to tie up the score. CB Antoine Cason provided the highlights on defense, recording two INTs one returned for a TD and one in OT to set up the game-winning FG and also recovering a muffed kickoff. On offense, QB Carson Palmer posted his fifth game with a passer rating and RB Andre Ellington became just the second rookie in team history to record 70+ rushing yards and 80+ receiving yards in a game. Next week, Arizona returns home for the regular season finale against the division rival 49ers. Seattle remains home as they take on the St. Louis Rams. QB Russell Wilson threw 3 scoring passes and Marshawn Lynch ran for 91 yards and a TD. Seattle took advantage of two Carson Palmer interceptions, converting each into touchdowns. Cards LB John Abraham notched 2 sacks of Wilson and the AZ defense forced two fumbles of the QB, each of which led to AZ scores. However, Seattle s dangerous pass rush got to Palmer 7 times and overall held the Cards to 30 rushing yards on 18 attempts. The Seahawks jumped ahead early after Wilson threw TD passes on each of their first two possessions. The first was a 31-yarder to WR Sidney Rice at the end of a 5-play, 83-yard series. The ensuing AZ drive ended when Earl Thomas intercepted a tipped Palmer pass at the SEA28 on a play that was initially ruled incomplete but reversed after a challenge. From there, Wilson took Seattle 72 yards in 11 plays and capped the drive with a 15-yard TD pass to TE Zach Miller. Seattle reached the AZ43 on its next possession but failed to pick up a 1 st down on 2 nd or 3 rd and 1. They went for it on 4 th down but linemen Frostee Rucker and Calais Campbell combined to stuff Wilson on a sneak attempt in a key momentum swing. That stop led to a 49-yard Jay Feely FG that made it 14-3 and on the 2 nd play of the next Seattle drive the D again came up big. LB Matt Shaughnessy sacked Wilson forcing a fumble that Campbell recovered at the SEA3 (Campbell started just 4 days after leaving the game at San Francisco on a stretcher with a bruised spine). One play later RB Rashard Mendenhall ran it in to make it Seattle tacked on a 51-yard Steven Hauschka FG with 0:05 left in the half to make it Seattle. On Arizona s opening drive of the 3 rd quarter, Feely hit a 52-yard FG that pulled the Cards to within 4 at but it was as close as they would get. The Seahawks answered by going 80 yards in 10 plays on their next drive and Wilson s 1-yard TD pass to TE Kellen Davis made it CB Brandon Browner then picked off a Palmer pass and returned it to the 1 where Lynch punched it in for a lead late in the 3 rd. The Cards would add a FG and TD an 8-yarder from Palmer to rookie WR Jaron Brown - in the 4 th quarter but the deficit was too great to overcome. SEAHAWKS CARDINALS Team Qtr. 4 LAST WEEK S GAME CARDINALS 37, Titans 34 (OT) December 15, 2013 LP Field (69,143) In a chilly late afternoon game in Nashville, the Cardinals seemed to clinch their 9 th win of the year when CB Antoine Cason returned an INT off Ryan Fitzpatrick for a TD to put AZ up with 6:13 left. But the Titans stormed back to score 17 points in the final 3:12 to send the game to overtime. On the opening drive of the extra period Cason again picked off Fitzpatrick to set-up Jay Feely s game-winning FG. Rookie RB Andre Ellington became the first Cardinal in more than a decade to lead the team in both rushing and receiving yards in the same game and fellow RB Rashard Mendenhall scored two rushing TDs. The Titans opened the scoring with a 45-yard Rob Bironas FG on their 1 st series.
