Bria Powell built on her big game at Saint Louis with eight points and Kylie Murphree matched her career high with eight after putting up six in the first quarter alone. Karleigh Wike pitched in six points and Alicia Hudalla grabbed a career-high seven rebounds off the bench. Both Murphree and Parson handed out three assists. The Spiders attempted a season-low four free throws and GW had almost as many offensive rebounds (24) as the Spiders had total rebounds (30). Richmond did manage to shoot 42.3 percent from the floor, besting the Colonials 37.1 mark. It was the highest shooting mark for the Spiders since going 51.1 percent at La Salle. ABOUT DAVIDSON The Wildcats have lost four of their last five games with the lone victory coming opposite George Mason on Feb. 3. Davidson went down to Duquense in its most recent matchup. RichmondSpiders Conference Website: Richmond Women s Basketball TUULI RETURNS Freshman forward Tuuli Menna missed 13 games due to an ankle injury after beginning the year with eight starts, 5.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. She returned in the second quarter opposite SLU and contributed three points on 1-2 shooting from deep to go with one rebound and a block in 10 minutes of action. She will be a key piece for the Spiders down the stretch this season. BRIA STARTS AND DELIVERS This senior has been without her running mate, Lauren Tolson, for most of the season and struggled to find her stroke for much it but opposite Saint Louis Powell shook loose. She scored 12 points on 4-11 shooting and even attempted her first triple of the season. She also went 4-4 from the free throw line and added a steal in her third start of the season. PARSON S CAREER NIGHT Sophomore Micaela Parson has, by now, established herself as the second scoring option to Janelle Hubbard on the Spiders roster in the absence of Lauren Tolson. Parson has emerged from a non-descript freshman campaign to average 12.3 points per game, culminating in a 23 point performance at VCU. She canned 17 of those points in the first half alone. FREE THROWS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Richmond is 8-4 this season when it makes more free throws than its opponent, 0-10 when it does not and 1-0 when it makes the same amount. The Spiders have struggled from the line this season but have shown that if they can get to the line and convert more than their opponent, the success rate jumps up. JANELLE HUBBARD GOES FOR 1,000 Hubbard entered the A-10 opener opposite La Salle needing just three points to become the 22nd member of the Richmond 1,000-point club and did so with a pair of buckets in the first half on the 17-point victory. Later in the game she passed Christina King to move into 21st on the all-time scoring list. BIG WEEK FOR HUBBARD Janelle Hubbard has embraced the role of go-to scorer since the injury to Lauren Tolson and it became most apparent the week of Jan. 13 with a pair of career performances. The junior rattled off 25 points on a career-high 11 made field goals at Saint Joseph s then followed that up with a career-best 32 points in a win at UMass. Her 30-point performance was the first for a Spider since Rachael Bilney did so in Hubbard rests at 1,134 points, placing her 15th on the all-time scoring list. SHUT THE DOOR Richmond this season is 9-1 when leading after the third quarter and 9-0 when leading with five minutes to play, showing that the Spiders have the ability to hold a lead when it has one late in games. The defense is allowing just 60.2 points per game and holds opponents to a.293 mark from deep. 3

The sophomore guard has been at the healm of the offense for one and a half seasons now while also being consistently asked to guard the opposition s best player. Murphree broke out against Rhode Island but not in the categories most often looked at. She booked career bests with seven assists, five steals and a trio of blocked shots in the game, cementing her role as top defensive option for the Spiders. SEEMINGLY MEANINGLESS STAT - OR IS IT? From the that s an odd stat department... Richmond has posted a staggering 8-4 record when it scores first in the game against a 1-10 record when the opponent scores first. Often times 2-0 or 3-0 can be meanlingless in a game that lasts 40 minutes but maybe there is more to scoring first than meets the eye. TOLSON FOR Lauren Tolson was on fire from distance to begin her senior season before going down with an injury. The Frederick, Md. native made 20 shots from beyond the arc and hit nine vs. EKU and William & Mary combined. With her first made triple vs. Wichita State the senior reached 100 made three balls for her career. WIKE DOUBLES UP Karleigh Wike started the first seven games for the Spiders and averaged just 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds before losing her starting spot. She regained it opposite Wake Forest on Dec. 20 and has reinvented her game. She posted an 11-point, 12-rebound night opposite Lafayette, both of which are career-bests. TAISHA CATCHES FIRE The freshman from Clayton, N.C. missed the first eight games of her debut campaign with an injury and slowly worked her way into the rotation over her first four on the floor before having a breakout performance at Virginia on Dec. 29. Murphy went off for 14 points on 5-7 shooting, including 4-6 from three-point range, all in the second half of the game. She did so in just 17 minutes of action after scoring a total of six points over her first four games combined. PRESEASON AWARDS Richmond has been chosen by the coaches of the Atlantic 10 to finish sixth in the league behind George Washington, Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham and Saint Louis, respectively. Junior guard Janelle Hubbard, the Spiders top-returning scorer, was recognized as a Preseason All-Conference Second Team selection after posting 13.9 points per game a season ago. POSTSEASON SUCCESS The Richmond Spiders played in the postseason for the sixth in the last seven years in 2014 which marked the ninth time the team has played in the WNIT. The selection marked the 12th overall postseason appearance in program history. All-time in the WNIT, the Spiders are 9-11.

Claiborne Robins family, the Robins Center underwent a $17 million renovation in that has transformed it into one of the premier college basketball arenas in the nation, while drawing rave reviews from players, coaches, fans and media. The renovations created a more intimate game day atmosphere and provided enhanced amenities for basketball fans. The renovations to the main arena of the Robins Center included new state-of-the-art LED lighting, midnight blue painted ceiling, four 15 feet by 32 feet video boards, scoreboards, refurbished seats, new premium seating options, new terrace hospitality areas, a refinished/newly painted court and renovated restrooms. The video boards are the largest in the Atlantic 10 conference, and among the largest of any on-campus arena in the ACC or Big East. 5

The Spiders were awarded a bye in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament after finishing in the top-4 for the third time in the last five years. Shafer has amassed a (.545) record while at Richmond in ten years. On Jan. 24, 2015, he became the winningest women s coach at Richmond when the Spiders defeated UMass for his 167th career triumph. He passed legendary coach Fannie Crenshaw, who guided the Spiders for 35 years. Shafer led Richmond to a 23-9 mark in , its most wins since and fewest losses since The National Women s Basketball Insider named Shafer one of the nation s top coaches in Shafer was one of 13 coaches that were recognized. Shafer collected his 100th win against GW in He is only one of three coaches at Richmond to eclipse the century mark total. Shafer has led Richmond to 20-win seasons in three of the last seven years and has guided the Spiders to six postseason WNIT appearances in that span. In , Shafer posted the most successful season in his tenure, after helping guide the Spiders to a record, a runner-up appearance in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament and school s fourth bid to the WNIT. The record marked the most wins since the season and third best overall record in program history. Prior to his time at Richmond, Shafer spent 11 years as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia, serving his last two seasons as the associate head coach. He helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to 11-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and four Southeastern Conference championships, three regular-season titles and one tournament title. During his tenure, Georgia posted a (.762) record and advanced to three NCAA Final Fours, appearing in the 1996 championship game. A proven recruiter, he helped Georgia head coach Andy Landers sign five Top 10 freshmen classes and inked the country s fifth best class in Shafer signed five high school All-Americans while serving his last three years at Georgia as the Lady Bulldogs recruiting coordinator. In addition, Shafer was instrumental in the development of current WNBA players Coco Miller, Kelly Miller and Deanna Nolan, a 2003 All-Star. Shafer was named as one of the nation s Top 10 assistant women s basketball coaches in an informal internet survey of more than 750 coaches and administrators conducted by womenshoopscoop.com in His numerous contributions to the program were rewarded in June of 2003 when he was promoted to associate head coach. A 1994 graduate of William & Mary, Shafer earned a spot on the men s basketball team as a walk-on. He served as team co-captain in 1994 and served on the Student-Athletic Council during his senior season.
