About the Seawolves Playing its second home game in three days, the Stony Brook University women s basketball hosts the Robert Morris Colonials. In search of their first victory of , the Seawolves are coming off a loss to George Mason in their home opener on Monday. Quick Shots Junior Dani Klupenger scored a career-high 16 points on Monday against George Mason... she also set a career-high with five-three points... Klupenger is 10-for-23 from threepoint range over her last two games... Stony Brook s defense has been suffocating in the first half of its last two games... the Seawolves held George Mason to 19 points on 36.8 percent shooting on Monday after holding Iona to seven points in the first half on Friday... the effort against Iona set a program record for fewest points allowed in a half and was the fewest points allowed in a half in an NCAA Division I women s game since Georgia Tech allowed just three points to Tennessee State last season... Iona shot just 3-for-21 (14.3 percent) from the field in the first half... the Seawolves defense has fallen off in the second half of the last two games though as Iona scored 45 points on 48.6 percent (17-for-35) shooting before allowing Mason to shoot 50 percent and score 35 points in... for the season, the Seawolves are out-scoring their opponents in the first half but are being out-scored in the second half... SBU is holding teams to 15.7 points on 29.7 shooting in the first half this season... but teams are averaging 34.0 points on 45.3 percent shooting in the second half... this will be just the second ever meeting between the programs... the first came two seasons ago when Robert Morris defeated the visiting Seawolves, Stony Brook has led by 10 points at the half and as many as 14 points in the second half of its last two losses. 3 Beth O boyle Head Coach First Season Gettysburg College 98 Stony Brook University Director of Athletics named Beth O Boyle as head women s basketball coach on April 7, O Boyle has 12 years of collegiate coaching experience and comes to Stony Brook following four years at Canisius College, where she served as the associate head women s basketball coach for the past two seasons. O Boyle helped Canisius to its best season in school history in as the Golden Griffins won 24 games, advanced to the MAAC Championship game and qualified for the WNIT for the first time in program history. The 24 wins were the most in the program s Division I history and the most by a Canisius women s basketball team in 25 years. Hired as an assistant coach at Canisius in 2007, O Boyle was elevated to associate head coach in November Responsible for all recruiting activities, as well the development of the Golden Griffin guards, O Boyle coached seven All-Conference players at Canisius, including 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Year Brittane Russell, 2009 MAAC Sixth Player of the Year Ellie Radke and 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year Jamie Ruttle. O Boyle has also shown a commitment to developing the total student-athlete. At Canisius, she monitored the academic progress of a Golden Griffins team that was recognized in the NCAA Top 25 for team grade point average. In total, Canisius has had 18 selections to the MAAC All-Academic team since O Boyle s arrival, including Marie Warner, who was also named a ESPN the Magazine third-team Academic All-American in O Boyle came to Canisius after serving as the head coach at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J., for three seasons. O Boyle led the Red Hawks to the ECAC Division III Metro Women s Basketball Championship in and was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year following the season. She compiled a record in her three seasons there, and the Red Hawks also produced their first All-American in 15 seasons under O Boyle s guidance. Prior to taking over at Montclair State, O Boyle spent four seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Rochester. During her first two seasons, Rochester won back-toback ECAC Upstate New York championships and in her last two seasons, the team made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Final Four. In 2004, the team was ranked No. 1 in the nation for a three-week period according to the USA Today/ESPN/ WBCA Division III poll and the D3hoops.com poll. A 1998 graduate of Gettysburg College, O Boyle earned four letters with the basketball and soccer programs at Gettysburg and served as a two-time captain in each sport. O Boyle earned her master s degree from the University of Rochester s Warner School of Education in O Boyle is a native of Rockville, Md., and attended the Academy of the Holy Cross High School in Kensington, Md. Junior Dani Klupenger scored a career-high 16 points but the George Mason Patriots went on a 26-6 game-ending run to rally for a win over the Stony Brook University women s basketball team on Monday night in the Seawolves home opener at Pritchard Gymnasium. Klupenger went 5-for-10 from three and was named Stony Brook s America East Player of the Game. Junior Jessica Previlon added nine points and six rebounds and freshman Kellie Krueger chipped in with eight points. Robert Morris George Mason 80, Longwood 58 Nov. 21, Farmville, Va. Taleia Moton set a career-high scoring 30 points while leading the George Mason women s basketball team to an victory over Longwood Thursday night at Willett Hall. The Patriots shot 55 percent from the floor as Moton went 10-for-15 from the floor and 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Sophomore Artemis Spanou is averaging a double-double (13.3 ppg., 10.7 rpg) through three games this season. The Colonials are coming off win over Central Michigan on Friday.
