S Mainland Matters April 2016 MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Well, a heap has happened since our last newsletter and much more to come! What a great start to the ANZC for our Mainland Tactix team, including two wins and a draw. At time of writing, looking forward to going on a fox hunt, when we play the Melbourne Vixens at Horncastle Arena, Christchurch, 6.10 p.m. Monday 9 th May Get along and support your team. The inaugural Beko National Netball League got underway in early April, with our Mainland team having one win and a loss to date. This is a great competition for show casing our up and coming netball talent and giving the players a taste of what the performance environment is like. We are incredibly privileged to have our offices and training centre under one roof here at the HPSNZ Apollo Projects Centre.not least of which because we get to work and train with coaches, management and wonderful athletes from other sporting codes, like World Indoor Shot Put champion Tom Walsh. Previous Next Previous Next Previous Next Speaking of training

Tactix players have been out and about in the community.here are a few pics from Gemma (spot the concentration on Gemma s face) and Charlotte's Top Town day in Akaroa, where they helped raise money for the new Akaroa Health Hub. Looks like lots of fun! Kind regards, Brigit

COMMUNITY JUNIOR NETBALL We welcome on board Tori Harding to the Community team this month, in the role of Junior Development Officer. Tori will be the contact person for all ANZ futureferns and Junior Netball programmes and can be contacted on ANZfutureFERNS Programme details Thankyou to the Centres who have completed the Survey Monkey outlining your Junior netball programmes for If you have not done so please ensure you complete this asap so that we have all the correct details for distributing information pertaining to these programmes. Resources Most workshops have now been delivered around the Zone with a great number of coaches trained up to deliver the ANZ futureferns programmes. If your coaches need additional support, check out the ANZ futureferns website for online resources and videos Year 5 6 Netball bibs for the 6-aside game have been shipped from NNZ and you should receive these this week. If you have not, please contact Tori. Junior Coordinators (JC) Junior Coordinators manage the implementation of the Year 1-2 and Year 3-4 ANZ futureferns programmes. As a JC, you are instrumental to the success of these programmes and are a great source of support for Star Helpers and Year 3&4 coaches. It is vital that you have sufficient JC s to support these programmes to ensure a consistent and successful approach is achieved. 1 JC for every 30 players is recommended. HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES During April, NZIS interns Candace and Alice delivered the Netball Mainland Holiday Programme at Rolleston. We had a beautiful day and were supported by a great turn out and players were able to develop Movement, Ball and Shooting skills under the guidance of other NZIS student coaches. Thank you to all that support these programmes.

BENCH OFFICIALS Training and information sessions/workshops are available for aspiring bench officials and those wanting to learn more about this aspect of the game. We hope that this will encourage a more efficient and consistent process. Coach Assessor Training (CAT) Workshops The Umpire CAT workshops have all been completed for 2016 and NZUDG will now be in contact with those who are current to support you in your Centres. CENTRE STAGE We opened Centre Stage this year with a double showcase from Buller and Malvern Netball Centres. Each Centre will be featured on our Facebook page and website for a week. This is a great opportunity to read about what is happening around our Zone and in neighbouring Centres. Recent Have a go Day in Rangiora for Year 3&4 school students organised by NCS&RT PERFORMANCE Over the weekend of the 24 th and 25 th of April Netball Mainland s performance squad program finished with a invite only 2 day camp, the girls that were invited in meet the criteria of working hard, being low maintenance show a performance attitude and had to have attended all previous days. These players

were nominated by Netball Mainland s Performance Coach Squad both level one and two, 10 girls were in attendance. The weekends theme was about Performance both on and off the Court, and was based around the Tactix first home game against the Mystics, Girls had specialist coaching sessions with international coach Kate carpenter and Tactix assistant coach Marianne Hoshek-Delaney. Nic Mackle spoke around the challenges moving through the performance systems and teams and coming back from adversity. They then observed the Tactix training Sunday started with the captains run through at Horncastle Arena. Then it was time for the Performance Squad Coaches to take centre court and take a session each. Performance Squad Umpires had the ANZ umpires come in to speak to them around how they prepare for their performance. The weekend culminated in watching the Tactix take on the Mystics in an exciting win Well done to all involved

OTHER STAFFING UPDATE Junior Development Officer: It gives me great pleasure to announce that Terauoriwa (Tori) Harding has joined the team here at Netball Mainland, as our Junior Development Officer, on a fixed term contract, 20 hours per week as part of a funding partnership between NM and Sport Canterbury through to the middle of December. Tori is responsible for the roll out of ANZ FutureFERNS netball and will be the go-to person for all Junior Netball matters. Tori is born and bred in Christchurch and has played all her netball there. She has been come through the Christchurch and Netball Mainland development/representative teams in the mid-court, and is currently a member of the 2016 Beko Mainland National league team. She has two young sons at home and is excited about developing and working with our youngest netballers. Contact details:

Phone: (03) Coach Development Officer We have a new member of the Netball Mainland family. Tammy Mehrtens joined us on Monday 11 th April as our new Coach Development Officer (Jen Hooper s old role). Tammy was employed by Sport Canterbury as their Community Sport Advisor where she made a fantastic contribution to Sport Canterbury and played key roles in the development and implementation of SportStart as well as the evolution and transition from Active Schools to a Community Sport Approach. Tammy had been employed with Sport Canterbury for a five year period, although her association with them started prior to that when she worked for them as a student while completing her degree at Lincoln University (Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management with a minor in Exercise and Health). Tammy has also been on the Board and Secretary of the Malvern Netball Centre and is actively involved in netball coaching. Contact details: tammy.mehrtens@netballmainland.co.nz Phone: (03) NZ Institute of Sport Interns We are excited to have three NZIS students with Netball Mainland for their Internship this year. Candace Moir and Alice Marshall will be involved with Community and Events and Matt Johnston with Events. INCORPORATED SOCIETIES/ FINANCIAL RECORDS Netball New Zealand has been working with the Zones to ensure that all Netball Centres are up to date with their Incorporated Societies status. Netball New Zealand (NNZ) requirement. The NNZ Constitution (7.3 c) requires all Centres to be a registered Incorporated Society. The status primarily; Protects the members of the Centre and ensures they are not personally liable for the society s debts, contracts or other obligations (Incorporated Societies Act 1908) Enables Centres to be eligible to apply for funding

Requirements of Incorporation As a registered Incorporated Society the entity must; 1. Upload an organisational Constitution The NNZ constitution (Centres 7e) states that Centres; Adopt the Objects of NNZ and the Objects of the relevant Zone and adopt a Constitution which is consistent with this Constitution and the Constitution of the relevant Zone. In order to assist Centres with developing and adopting such a Constitution a NNZ Centre Constitution Template was developed and circulated. 2. Annually submit their financial accounts. Not meeting these requirements may result in an entity being struck off the register. Centres Registered as a Charity and Incorporated Society Some Centres are registered with both the Charities Commission and the Companies Office. Should a Centre choose to be a charity it must also be Incorporated Society as this legally protects the Centre and its members. The following information clarifies the requirements of registered Charities to maintain their Incorporated Society status: If a Centre wishes to be registered as a Charity they will remain registered on the Companies Office as an Incorporated Society as long as they continue to upload the annual financial return to the Charities Commission. If a Centre is a registered Charity and makes alterations to their Constitution then the documents must be uploaded to BOTH the Companies Office and the Charities Register. If you have any queries regarding uploading or updating Constitutions and/or Financials please contact Amy. Membership Returns Accurate reporting of membership numbers is vital to ensure we can receive funding to maintain and develop programmes going forward. Next week, Netball Mainland will be sending out documents pertaining to the membership return for 01 December 2015 to 31 May We would appreciate if the following timeline can be followed: Wednesday 11 th May Spreadsheet and Instruction sheet sent to Centres Wednesday 25 th May Final date for Membership return to be sent from Centres to the Zone

DNA COMPETITION MANAGEMENT WORKING GROUP Expressions of Interest NNZ and Sportsground will be developing a new Competition Management package, a bespoke solution for Netball that will be available as part of the DNA system. NNZ are now calling for Expressions of Interest from Centres who would like to take part in the project Working Group, working with NNZ and Sportsground to help design and deliver this solution, providing insights, input and feedback at key stages of the project. Please indicate your Expression of Interest to DNA@netballnz.co.nz by 5pm Friday 13 th May, including your name, contact details, Centre and what package (if any) you currently use. 11 Goal Post Pads We draw your attention to the Rules of Netball as per rule 3.2 Goal Posts, goalpost consists of the following (i) (c ) covered with padding of uniform thickness not more than 50 mm (2 in) thick and extending the full length of the pole. Remember folks to cover your posts Modified goal posts for use in ANZ futureferns programmes Following a recent ANZ futureferns Festival a report outlining an unweighted goal post falling on a young attendee was received by Netball New Zealand. While the attendee was not seriously injured the potential for harm is significant. After reviewing this incident it appears that the free standing goal post was not adequately weighted to prevent it falling forward. Portable posts will be used frequently during the season in the ANZ futureferns programme. The following guidelines are recommended for the use of the freestanding goalposts to ensure that the utmost safety is provided for participants. - All free standing goalposts must be adequately weighted NNZ recommends the use of sandbags or filling of the base with water or sand. - Each goalpost must be able to stand upright without additional support in the relevant conditions of use. - It is not acceptable to use an adult or person to counterbalance the goal post. - In the case of screw down posts they must be securely fastened in line with the manufacturers guidelines at all times during use. Best wishes from us here at Netball Mainland
