3 ANZ futureferns Years 1 to 6 ANZ futureferns is Netball New Zealand s official Junior Netball programme for Year 1 8 children. To ignite a lifelong involvement in Netball, a sequential programme has been developed that is at the right level for the players at each stage. The emphasis is on fun activities conducted in a safe environment. Small sided games are the preferred training method and are proven to be the most appropriate way to enhance skill and tactical development. ANZ futureferns is focused on enabling individuals to experience personal achievements. The benefits for the players and parents are: Players FUN Development of sound fundamental netball skills Participation in a safe environment Playing with their friends and meeting others Active physical involvement Parents Reassurance that their child is participating in a NNZ endorsed programme Enhancement of the child s social and fundamental skills Ability to share skills and knowledge with the netball community Opportunity to learn more about netball Year 1 and 2 Introduces Netball to 5-6 year olds. The aim is to develop fundamental movement and ball skills. The game that follows the preceding skill session is played on one third of a fullsized court, by teams of four, with the emphasis on equal participation. All equipment on game day for Year 1 & Year 2 participants will be provided by Harbourside Netball Centre Year 3 and 4 The focus for this age group is learning basic skills in a modified game of 5-a-side, using two-thirds of a Netball court. ANZ futureferns Year 3 & 4 is designed to be fast and fun, maximising participation. Five players in each team and rotating positions ensures everyone gets an equal chance to develop their skills. Year 5 and 6 Netball continues to be modified for this age group. Players rotate to prevent early specialisation in positions. The emphasis is on all players getting plenty of touches of the ball and the opportunity to develop a broad skill set. Please note that Year 5 & Year 6 netball at Harbourside will be played 7 v 7, on a fullsized court and goalposts (3.05m) with compulsory rotation of players in

Year 5 and 6 Competition Grades These shall be determined by Harbourside Netball Centre. Please note the following: 1. A team that has three (3) or more Year 6 players shall play in the Year 6 grade 2. Boys are eligible to play but only a maximum of three (3) per team. One in each third of the court. It is the responsibility of the teams to ensure the scorecard is returned immediately to the downstairs office at the end of the game. Defaults Five (5) players constitute the minimum number for a playing team. Teams who wish to default games, must advice HNC within 24 hours of the scheduled game. 6 Substitution A player may play up a section/grade for their school team only but they must be from a lower section/grade. A player may play up a section/grade for a team once. On the second occasion that player will be automatically registered to that team for the remainder of the season. Primary players are not eligible to play for a senior or college team. Uniform and Dress Code The playing uniform of a school must be approved and registered. A school team may not change their uniform without the approval of HNC. From time to time we see an appalling display of incorrect uniforms being worn by some players and it is unacceptable. Teams must set an example and take pride in the uniform they wear and the school they are representing. Players are not permitted to wear coloured stockings, rugby socks, skivvies or bike pants that hang below the uniform. Yes, there are exceptions to the rules and each case will be dealt with on an individual basis. Jewellery, Fingernails and Hair As per rule (iv) of the Rules of Netball: Players may not wear anything that could endanger themselves or other players, specifically: a) No adornment or jewellery may be worn other than a wedding ring which must be covered with tape b) A medical alert bracelet may be worn provided it is covered with tape c) Fingernails must be short and smooth d) Hair must be suitably tied back Umpires Every team must provide an umpire who will umpire their own team s game for the duration of the game. The umpires must print their names on the scorecard at the conclusion of the game (only for Year 5 and 6). Please be reminded the umpires are human and yes they do make mistakes but so do the players and that does not give anyone the right to attack them verbally. Any issues can be addressed through our Umpire Co-ordinator Maree Body umpirecoordinator@xtra.co.nz or you may phone the office on Changing Goal Ends Year 5 and 6 teams change goal ends after half time. Rotation is Compulsory It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure all players are rotated. Rotations are made at the end of each quarter of play. All players are on the court for at least half a game and must be given the opportunity to play and develop in all seven positions. An example of rotation can be found on our website under the Competitions > Year 5 & 6. Disputes In the event of a dispute arising from a game, the protest/complaint must be lodged in writing (using the Complaints Form) and follow the Complaints Procedure as outlined in the Harbourside Netball Centre Regulations. The forms and Regulations can be found on our website 6

7 Harbourside Netball Centre Regulations For the full Harbourside Netball Centre Regulations please visit our website General Information for 2017 Netball Convenor/Teacher in Charge Every school must designate one person as their Netball Convenor or Teacher in Charge of Netball and their role is to liaise directly with the netball centre on behalf of all their team/s. We really appreciate only having to deal with one person. All enquiries/queries or amendments must be made through that person only. Netball Draw You can access the netball draw and results on our website We will endeavour to have the draw uploaded each week by Monday afternoon for Years 1 to 4 and Wednesday morning for Years 5 & 6. Netballs To avoid any confusion Netball New Zealand recommends a size 4 netball for Year 5 & 6, but a size 5 netball is also acceptable. Netball Bibs We have spare sets of netball bibs on hand and we are willing to loan these in case of an emergency. We do ask that the bibs are returned immediately after the game, folded nicely and returned to the downstairs office. Whistles & Rule Books These are available from the downstairs office. Rule books cost $6.00 and the Whistles are from $5.00. First Aid Due to the cost, we do not have paramedics on site. We ask all teams to provide their own medical kit and have it courtside each week. Ice is available from the downstairs office for injuries. Resources Coaching and umpiring resources are readily available from Sports Distributors. They are based in Aerodrome Road Mount Maunganui, so check out their website Cancellations 2.45pm for ANZ futureferns Year 1 and pm for ANZ futureferns Year 3 and am for ANZ futureferns Year 5 and 6 Cancellation notices will be posted on the Harbourside website and facebook page. For those members registered to Sportcheck you will receive a text message. 7

8 Sportscheck This is a text messaging service and is another means of keeping you informed of any cancellations. In order to receive this service you must register with Sport Check. Text the competition code only to 3080 Year 1 & Year Year 3 & Year Year 5 & Year Once you have done that, you will receive a text message advising that your number has been registered. There is a cost involved and you will be charged 50 cents every time you receive a cancellation message. So you decide whether or not you want to receive this service. In our opinion and from the feedback received this service is the most convenient for all as it comes to you direct and not second hand. Harbourside Netball Centre does not receive any royalties from this service not does it cost Harbourside anything to have this service made available to you. Fundraising Schools must apply in writing to the CEO to request a day for fundraising. NO food stalls or the selling of confectionary and/or biscuits are permitted. Smoking The pavilion, court area and surrounding areas are Smoke Free. Volunteers Volunteers are the backbone of every organisation and we simply could not function without their support. They are the unsung heroes, the cog in the wheel and they do it all for the love of netball. Harbourside attributes much of its success to these wonderful people. If you or someone you know is willing to volunteer we would dearly love to hear from you. There are numerous roles you can be actively involved with. Please give us a call if you are interested in volunteering your services this season: Office Administration Junior Development Programmes Coaching & Umpiring Programmes Tower Control Tournaments Game Day Personnel No Exceptions Netball & much much more No Exceptions Netball Programme This truly is a wonderful programme developed to support a special group of people. The No Exceptions Netball Programme is now in its 10 th year and provides a lot of joy to those who participate in it. The programme is scheduled to start on Saturday 6 th May 2017 and will run for 10 weeks. If you are keen to help call the office now. 8

9 Coaching Workshops The focus of Harbourside Netball Centre is to provide clear pathways for our coaches and we are excited to be working once again with Shan Jensen-Loach. Shan will continue to support coaches at all levels and offer a range of coach development opportunities to support and assist our coaches. Whether you are a beginner coach, a player turned coach or a coach wanting to take it to the next level, there are many opportunities available in Check out the Harbourside website for all the coaching workshops that have been planned for this season. Umpiring The focus of Harbourside Netball Centre is to provide clear pathways for our umpires. We have an Umpires Group led by Maree Body who is our Umpire Co-ordinator. So, whether you a just starting out in your umpiring journey or been on the journey for a while, the Umpires Group is here to support you with workshops, mentoring and general guidance. Please contact Maree on umpirecoordinator@xtra.co.nz or see our website for further information. Always a hot topic of discussion is the payment of umpires and what can be done to avert some umpires asking exorbitant amounts. As we have previously stated if we follow the lead and recommendations of other netball centres nationwide we may be able to curb the situation, but it will only work if all members and team officials support the following: Senior qualified umpire $15 Junior qualified umpire $10 No qualifications $5 Please note that all umpires expect to be paid. Umpires Learners Licence The Learners Licence wokshop will be presented by Hikitia Gallagher and her support team. The workshop caters for the newbie umpires who are just starting out, although it can be used as a refresher course for those umpires who have recently attained a centre qualification. We strongly encourage all college student who are keen to umpire this year to attend these workshops. The workshops will be run in two blocks and costs $10 per attendee for a block of 2 workshops. All workshops will be held at Harbourside Netball Centre from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
