5 Last Night I Messed Around And (Nearly) Got A Triple-Double: With her six points, 10 assists and 14 rebounds vs. Canisius at the Binghamton Time Warner Classic, Hofstra senior guard Staceyann Claxton nearly became the first player in Hofstra Women s Basketball history to tally a triple-double. Nice To See You Again: Redshirt freshman guard Cigi McCollin has returned to the Pride lineup after missing all but the first five games of the season and has not missed a beat. McCollin, who is averaging 11.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, led the Pride in scoring in the first two games of the season. Nice Start Coach: With a victory in her first game as head coach, Felisha Legette-Jack became the first Hofstra Women s Basketball Head Coach to win their first game as coach since Lorraine Hoffman defeated Long Island University, 67-45, to begin her Hofstra Head Coaching career at the start of the season. We re Having a Block Party: Senior center Rume Pela, who posted a team-high 43 blocks in , has 91 blocks in her three-plus seasons at Hofstra. Her 91 blocks are currently fifth all-time at Hofstra. The 43 blocks last season were tied for the third most in a single season in Hofstra Basketball history. Most Blocked Shots Career: 1. Diane Leonard 134 ( ) 2. Lisa Harris 111 ( ) 3. Betsy Lange 102 ( ) 4. Dawn McGrath 98 ( Rume Pela 91 (2000-Present) Comeback Kids: Hofstra two victories this season have both come in exciting fashion. The Pride have had to overcome at least nine-point deficits in the second half of each game in order to pull out the victory. Against Quinnipiac on November 25, the Pride trailed with 7:46 left before closing the game on a 19-7 run to earn the win. Against Rhode Island on December 9, the Rams began the second half on a 8-0 run to take a lead with 17:50 left in the game before Hofstra went on a 22-11on their way to a win. Welcome Back: The Pride welcomes back two players this season who sat out all or nearly all of the season. Senior Tara Dilworth missed the entire season with a wrist injury, while redshirt freshman Cigi McCollin missed all but the first five games of the season after suffering a knee injury against Stetson on December 6. Dilworth, who averaged 5.7 points and team-highs of 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in , attended the Pete Newell Big Man Camp this past summer. McCollin, on the other hand, won the first two Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors before suffering her season-ending injury. Nice Job, Newcomers: Of the eight players on the Pride roster who were not active at the end of last season (four freshmen, two transfers, two redshirts), seven saw action in Hofstra s season opener against #14 North Carolina. The non-returnees totaled 30 of Hofstra s 45 points (67 %) and 31 of the Pride s 41 rebounds (76 %). No Overtime, Please: It has been 20 long years since a Hofstra Women s Basketball team won a game in overtime. The Pride, who has played six overtime games since their last extra session victory, last lost an overtime game on November 30 when they were defeated by Canisius, In the Pride defeated Marist College, 61-60, for their last overtime win. It marked the fewest rebounds for a Hofstra opponent since St. Francis (NY) also pulled down 22 on December 11, 1999 in an Pride victory. Double Your Fun: Hofstra finished the campaign with 9 double-doubles. All the double-doubles last season were of the point/rebound variety.
