16 COACHES & STAFF BRANDON SCHNEIDER Brandon SCHNEIDER In just his second season at Stephen F. Austin, head coach Brandon Schneider guided the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks to the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and a 23-win season. It was the most wins by a Ladyjack team since the season when SFA also won 23 games and just the fifth 20-win season this decade. The increase in 11 wins from the season (12) to (23) was tied for the sixth-biggest turnaround in the nation. Schneider also oversaw the development of the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, Porsha Roberts, and this year s SLC Newcomer of the Year, Ashlee Mells. In his first full season as head coach of the Ladyjack basketball program, Schneider led SFA to a overall record and a 9-7 mark in conference play. The Ladyjacks clinched a trip to the Southland Conference Championship Tournament and nearly pulled off an upset of No. 3 Central Arkansas in the first round before falling Schneider also oversaw the development of senior guard Tammara Marion, who was named to the all-southland Conference second team and led the Ladyjacks and was fourth in the league averaging 16 points per game for the season along with 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists. She also set the single-season record with 72 made three-point shots. Schneider was named head coach of the Ladyjacks on April 20, Recognized as one of the top names at the NCAA Division II level, Schneider came to Nacogdoches after a highly successful 12-year stint at Emporia State. The Canyon, Texas native is the second all-time winningest head coach at the NCAA Division II level. Schneider came to Nacogdoches from Emporia State where he guided the Lady Hornets to a (.810) record, and the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship. The school s alltime leader in wins and winning percentage, Schneider ranks among the all-time top 10 in fastest coaches to 100 victories, and third fastest among women s basketball coaches. Schneider spent the previous 12 seasons at ESU guiding the Lady Hornets to 11 NCAA tournament appearances. During that stretch Schneider s teams recorded two 30-win seasons, and nine 20-win campaigns. Along with the 2010 national championship, Schneider coached ESU to four NCAA Division II South Central Regional titles, two Final Four appearances, six regular-season conference crowns and three league tournament titles. Schneider made it tough on conference opponents during his time with the Lady Hornets winning 80 percent of those games. ESU posted a (.801) record versus MIAA foes. In 2006, the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association of four-year colleges voted Schneider as its coach of the year. He was also a three-time MIAA Coach of the Year. The 2010 Bulletin Women s Basketball National Coach of the Year and the WBCA South Central Region Coach of the Year, Schneider s players have reaped the rewards of his guidance. He has coached seven All-Americans, including two NCAA Division II Player of the Year selections, 13 first-team All-MIAA honorees, eight conference MVPs and seven players have gone on to play professionally, including one in the WNBA. Schneider is well respected for being able to attract some of the nation s top talent on the recruiting trail. During his time at Emporia State Schneider signed six NJCAA All-Americans and four high school All-Americans to play for the Lady Hornets. Schneider was a 1995 honors graduate of Wayland Baptist. During his time at Wayland, Schneider was a four-year letterman in men s basketball and was the school s first-ever academic All-American, capturing the honor three times. Schneider s father, Bob, was on of the most successful women s coaches at the NCAA Division II level, having served as the head coach at West Texas A&M from 1981 to They became the first father/son combination to take teams to the Elite Eight. She comes to Nacogdoches from San Jose State where she spent the three seasons as the Spartans recruiting coordinator. Jodi has been a recruiting coordinator at the NCAA Division I level for several years, said head coach Brandon Schneider. She has extensive ties throughout Texas and on the junior college scene nationally. Along with her responsibilities as the recruiting coordinator, Greve worked with the Spartan perimeter players. She also assisted with individual and strength and conditioning workouts, and monitored the academic progress of certain players. 18 COACHES & STAFF ANDY MAJORS Andy MAJORS Majors is entering his third season at SFA after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State where he helped lead the Gorillas to a record in that time, including a 20-9 record in Majors helped guide the Ladyjacks to the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and a 23-win season in The increase in 11 wins from the season (12) to (23) was tied for the sixth-biggest turnaround in the nation. As an assistant for the Gorillas, Majors duties include coordinating opponent scouting, monitoring academic progress and in-practice statistics. He also assists with preseason conditioning and on-floor coaching, specifically with the Gorilla forwards and centers. Majors was a standout quarterback for the Gorilla football team from and was a crucial part to the Gorilla s run to a national runnerup finish in He holds school records for most passing yards in a season (3,065 in 2005), career completions (352), single-season completions (198 in 2005), single-season completion percentage (.657 in 2004) and single-season total yards (4,028 in 2005). Majors earned three All-MIAA honors, earning first-team honors in 2005, honorable mention in 2004 and also honorable mention as a wide receiver in An honorable mention All-American by The Football Gazette in 2005, Majors was also successful in the classroom as he earned MIAA Commissioner s Honor Roll status three times. Buchanan graduated from Texas A&M in three years with a major in psychology and started her masters in her fourth year of playing in school counseling and finished the year after her eligibility expired. AUSTIN, 03 McCary is primarily responsible for the care and rehabilitation of female athletes, while also assisting with all other sports. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. In 2007, McCary took on the responsibility of senior woman administrator. McCary came to SFA after serving as a graduate assistant at Florida, where she was the athletic trainer for volleyball. The Girard, Kan., native is a 1988 graduate of Kansas State, where she served three years as a student trainer. She earned her master s from Florida in She is married to Vance McCary. He also received an associate of arts degree from Hesston College (Kan.) in TODD STUTZMAN VIDEO COORDINATOR 1st SEASON KANSAS UNIVERSITY, 11 Todd Stutzman is in his first season with SFA women s basketball after spending the past year as a graduate assistant manager at the University of Memphis. While there his primary responsibilities included assisting with day-to-day operations, organizing and assisting with film exchange, cutting and editing film, assisting with scouting opponents, helping with practices and supervising summer basketball camps. Before arriving in Memphis, Stutzman earned his bachelor s degree in liberal arts and sciences with a minor in business from The University of Kansas in During his time at KU he was a student manager for the University of Kansas women s basketball program from Stutzman completed a summer internship with the KU athletic department in equipment management and was a camp supervisor with Bill Self Basketball Camps in He also received an associate of arts degree from Hesston College (Kan.) in A native of Hesston, Kan., Stutzman attended Hesston High School where he was a three sport letterman for the Swathers, was active in vocal music, and received academic achievement honors throughout his high school career. He is currently pursing a Master s of Interdisciplinary Studies from SFA. Josh Jorgensen is in his second season working with athletic operations at SFA, serving as the event coordinator for all athletic facilities and assisting with marketing and promotional activities. He came to SFA from McNeese State in January of 2012 after nearly two years at McNeese State. There, his daily responsibilities also included the overseeing of facility management of all athletic facilities and coordination of all game management operations for all Cowboy and Cowgirl home contests. Jorgensen was also responsible for the supervision of all gameday staff and facility was the liaison to the McNeese State Facilities and Plant operations staff. KENNY BYBEE ASST. SID WOMEN S BASKETBALL 2nd SEASON SAM HOUSTON STATE, 08 Kenny Bybee is in his second year with the SFA athletics department and is the primary contact for soccer, women s basketball, softball and bowling as well as serving as secondary contact for football. A 2008 graduate of Sam Houston State with a degree in journalism and a minor in English, Bybee most recently served an internship with the Southland Conference where he was responsible for the publicity of men s and women s tennis and men s and women s indoor and outdoor track and field. He also assisted at the Southland Conference men and women s basketball championship tournament in Katy, Texas. Bybee, a graduate of Brenham High School, spent two years at the University of North Texas as an intern in the sports information department. While there he served as the primary contact for soccer, cross-country and track while assisting with numerous other sports. The 28-year-old was also the media relations director for the Dallas Vigilantes in 2010 in their inaugural season in the Arena Football League. Seven 20-win seasons and one 30-win season at SFA. Recorded a 6-6 (.500) all-time NCAA Tournament record, never losing a first-round game at SFA. During the spring of 2003, left Arkansas to take over the program at Texas A&M. Royce Chadwick Recorded a (.797) all-time record at SFA. Named the SLC Coach of the Year. Guided the Ladyjacks to five SLC regular-season titles and six SLC Tournament crowns. Was 4-7 (.364) all-time in the NCAA tournament. Chadwick recorded six 20-win seasons. Is currently the head coach at Marshall. Kristy (Sims) Curry An assistant at SFA under Joe Curl. Helped SFA to 23-7 (.767) record and advanced to the NCAA tournament in her lone season as an assistant. Was head coach at Purdue, where she led the Boilermakers to a (.777) record.
