Denver is all-time versus Michigan State, a record which includes a mark in games played in East Lansing. These teams first met in February of 1951, with DU earning back-to-back road wins over Michigan State by a combined score of The Pios have not played at Munn Arena since the weekend of January 30-31, 1981 when they went in a two-game series. Denver and Michigan State clashed at Magness Arena last season, with the Pioneers earning a weekend sweep of the Spartans on Oct by a combined score of 7-2. Pioneers Sweep Terriers in Week 2 of Season: After starting the campaign with a pair of losses at the College Hockey, Inc. Ice Breaker Tournament, Denver earned two wins over then-no. 2-ranked Boston University last weekend at Magness Arena: 4-3 on Friday (No. 1 Star - Evan Janssen, 2G-0A-2P, GWG) and 3-1 on Saturday (No. 1 Star - Henrik Borgström, 2G-1A-3P, GWG) to get back to.500 for the season. Butcher & Jaillet Honored by NCHC: The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Monday that DU blueliner Will Butcher was named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week for the week of Oct while Pioneers netminder Tanner Jaillet earned NCHC Goaltender of the Week honors. Butcher dished out two assists and blocked eight shots in Denver s two-game sweep of Boston University last weekend at Magness Arena while Jaillet made 47 saves on 51 shots faced (.922 SV%) in backstopping the Pioneers to back-to-back wins over the Terriers. 2 Denver Injury Report: Sophomore forward Dylan Gambrell is out for the next 3-5 weeks with an upper body injury. Nine Former Pioneers on Opening Day NHL Rosters: Denver had a total of nine former student-athletes on National Hockey League opening day rosters. Former DU stars Beau Bennett (New Jersey), Tyler Bozak (Toronto), Matt Carle (Nashville), Joe Colborne (Colorado), Nick Shore (Los Angeles), Paul Stastny (St. Louis), Patrick Wiercioch (Colorado) and Jason Zucker (Minnesota) all appeared on their team s respective opening day rosters, as did last year s Pioneers MVP Danton Heinen (Boston). Heinen made his Bruins debut on Thursday, October 12 in their season-opener at Columbus, becoming the 71st former Pioneer in program history to skate in the NHL. Preseason Accolades for Denver: Junior goaltender Tanner Jaillet was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List for on October 7... In addition to earning Preseason All-Conference honors from the NCHC last month, Will Butcher and Dylan Gambrell were both recently named to College All-CHN Preseason Teams.
